Barb was 84. Barbara was born January 15, 1938 to William "Bill" and Viola (Puetz) McDonnell in Montrose, South Dakota. On March 1, 1957, Barbara was united in marriage to Gilbert "Gib" Bassett. The couple resided in Humboldt, South Dakota and soon became loving parents to three children, Kim, Troy and Mark. Barb was active in Legion Auxiliary. She loved going to West Central sporting events, however, her greatest passion was spending time with her family especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband of 65 years, Gib Bassett; children, Kim (Mike) Regnier, Troy (Colleen) Bassett and Mark (Catherine) Bassett all of Sioux Falls; 8 cherished grandchildren, Matthew (Tera) Regnier, Seth (Katy) Regnier, Travis (Kayla) Bassett, Tara Carruthers, Tyler (Melissa) Bassett, James Bassett, Ryan Bassett and Lily Bassett; 10 dear great-grandchildren; sisters, Jan Dunker, Sheryl (Vern) Wulff and Vic (Bob) Kerkhove; and brothers, Tom McDonnell and Steve (Angela) McDonnell. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to West Central Athletic Booster or Siouxland Libraries. December 26, 2022 Kevin Dion Bassett of Hayden, Idaho passed away on December 26th of natural causes. He was born in Nampa, Idaho on June 25th 1967 to Mick Bassett of Ontario, Oregon and Judy LeDoux of Eureka, Montana. Kevin graduated high school in Ontario, Oregon in 1985. After graduating he went on to attend Oregon Institute of Technology earning a degree in radiology, later settling in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, beginning his career at then Kootenai Memorial Hospital. He later moved on to Northwest Specialty Hospital in Post Falls, Idaho. He married Lisa Jones and was the proud father of two children Emily and Eric. They later divorced. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and competed in cross-country motorcycle racing, later turning his competitive spirit to golfing, competing in many tournaments. He had an adventurous spirit, living his life always on his own terms. This included vacation trips to Mexico with his fiancé Brenda and at one time tandem skydiving while there. Kevin enjoyed being with family and friends while sometimes entertaining them by relating stories of his oft calamitous-like incidents and adventures. He thoroughly enjoyed his life's work in radiology, often commenting on how magnificently the human body was created. His life ended but his spirit lives on with all the countless friends and family who not only liked him but loved him. He is survived by his father, mother, son Eric in Spokane, WA, daughter Emily in AK, brothers Cory (Sary) and Clayton from Ontario, OR, granddaughter Cedar and best friend and fiancé, Brenda Young of Hayden, ID. Shipp Bassett (Picture included) Elizabeth "Liz" Shipp Bassett was born September 28, 1929 in Miller, Oklahoma and passed away January 14, 2015 in Tucson, Arizona with her family at her side. Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Vera Anderson; her first husband of 48 years, Jim Shipp and her second husband of 15 years, Joe Bassett. Liz is survived by her two children, Jim (Teri) Shipp of Tucson and Melisa (Tim) Clayton also of Tucson; her three grandchildren and many friends from all over the country. Liz had a zest for life that was contagious and loved her family more than anything. She was a founding member of the Sweet Adelines chorus and even after dementia had taken most of her memories, could still sing every word of almost every song from her era. Liz was a wonderful cook and perfected the art of making pomegranate jelly. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her but we know she is free now and singing with the angels. | 1104 | Arizona Daily Start, August 6, 2020 Mary Josephine Christine (Lynch) Iglehart (Picture included) 97, Mary Josephine Christine (Lynch) Iglehart entered into eternal peace with her Lord, and returned home to her beloved, Walter "Ike" Iglehart, on July 27th, 2020 (in time for dinner on his birthday), thus artfully (and, most likely, intentionally) completing the greatest love story ever told. Preceded in death by her most-cherished Ike and her daughter, Mary C. Iglehart. Mary is survived by her daughter, Julia A. Brandt; her special grandsons, Eric Brandt (Jennifer, Jack and London) and Kristopher Brandt (Heather, Maddie and Dylan), and entire communities of friends whose lives she impacted so greatly. Born in Castleton, VT to John F. and Grace Mary (Bassett) Lynch, Mary clung to her spartan New England-rearing and used it as a compass to navigate her life of love and service to all. One of 13 children, Mary necessarily lived with such tenacity and vigor that it often resulted in her patented, unexpected comedy - on one such occasion young Mary reminded her priest of his 25-cent debt for her gardening services . . . whilst in the confessional! Mary was a GIANT, even amongst the Greatest Generation. A quintessential lady, and true woman of valor, she committed herself to both God and Country. Though she was one of the first to voluntarily enlist in the Women's Army Corps in 1942, she was most proud of running a tight ship in her storied 20-year, post-military career in civil service. The embodiment of grace and compassion, she devoted her life to the Catholic church and its ministries, and remained a staple and persistent (if not persnickety) volunteer at most all parish events. 'Grams' (to an entire generation of young people) wholly adored her two grandsons, and not only guided their coming-of-age journeys, but forever shaped the paths of their friends, schoolmates and neighbors. A natural teacher and mentor, she was quick to let you know exactly where she stood on any matter, yet was unrelentingly there to help at any time, and with any need - in almost magical ways. Proudly Irish to the core, Grams first met "her Walter" on St. Patrick's day (of course), and ornamented her daily family life with all the wisdom, fare, and mischievousness of the Emerald Isle. Her powerful conveyance and indelible storytelling adorned the myriad cards of encouragement (in proper longhand) that she must have sent daily to all those fortunate enough to have crossed her path. She knew nothing of short conversations, and all were instantly drawn to her dry wit, inviting demeanor and wry smile. Armed with a legendary sweet tooth and unmatched hospitality, one couldn't be luckier than to recount a life lesson learned over a cup of coffee/tea and a macaroon (or half of a light beer, if the hour permitted). Heaven has gained, simply, the greatest there ever was . . . may she be a guardian angel to all. We love you to the moon and back, Grams. Paul was born in 1953 to Paul L. Parent and Noella Parent (Bessette) in Long Island, New York. He grew up in Phoenix and graduated from Saguaro High School. He attended Arizona State University, where he was active in ROTC and earned his BS in Aeronautical Engineering. Paul was a Captain in the US Army, where he was stationed in Frankfurt Germany. After leaving the Army, he earned his MBA from Southern Methodist University - Cox School of Business. He spent many years working for Motorola and General Dynamics, enjoying a long, fulfilling career. He received great satisfaction by mentoring the people he worked with and encouraging them to succeed and grow. Paul loved and valued his family, finding tremendous joy spending time with his grandchildren. He found peace being in nature and enjoyed hiking in the Sonoran desert. He was an avid reader and loved to share his books and knowledge. He is survived by his wife, Sherry, his children; Paul Courtney (Kelly), Bryce, Stephanie (Stacey), Michael (Ashley) and Shannon. Grandchildren; Katie, Hannah, and Alan and his siblings; Karen (Dave), Joseph, David and Mary-Ann (Doug) and several loving nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Noella Parent, father, Paul L. Parent and his brothers, Mark and Brian (Gail). His "celebration of life" was held at El Chorro in Paradise Valley on Saturday, December 28th, 2019. The burial service was at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix on December 30th, 2019. Bass of near New Edinburg, was returned recently to Fordyce for reburial. Private Bass, who served during World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps, was returned to the States from a cemetery in Guam. He was killed on Iwo Jima April 11, 1945, while a member of the 3rd marines. Surviving, besides his mother, are four brothers, William Bass of Memphis; Marion D. Bass and George C. D.C. worked as a master electrician most of his life. He retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad. D.C. also loved to build and repair properties, he truly was a "jack of all trades". D.C. loved the outdoor life, hunting, fishing, cooking, traveling, going to the casino with Von, and spending time with his family. Born in Roanoke, VA, he was the son of George Quincy Bass and Virginia Williamson Price. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, lifelong learner, engineer, veteran, storyteller, collector, and friend to many. Bob is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Carol Jean (Schafer) Bass; his daughters, Jacqueline Hyneman, Laura Hobson, Deirdre Kraemer (John), Lisa Dangel, and Deborah Negron (Alberto); his ?adopted? son J.D. Walker (Louann); his grandchildren Kyle Hyneman (Divya), Zack Hyneman (Cassandra), Madison Doolittle, Tiffany Eppelheimer (Reed), Madeline Kraemer, Lucy Kraemer, Christopher Dangel, Ryan Dangel, Scott Dangel, and Emily Negron; 3 great grandchildren Landon Hutcheson, Rhen and Leif Eppelheimer; his brother George Bass (Lorna), sister-in-law Shirlee Marvin; cousins Jane Gwinn and Nancy Alton; numerous nieces and nephews, and many dear friends. A Celebration of Life will be scheduled in the coming months in Hot Springs, Arkansas. An Army brat, Bob attended Gordon Military High School in Barnesville, Georgia, and went on to spend two years at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. He then enlisted with the United States Army, serving 3 years as a gunsmith from 1960 to 1963, mostly posted in Schwabisch Gmund, Germany. Upon leaving the Army out of Fort Bliss, TX, he returned to Florida where he initially worked for organizations including the Florida Road Department, the Daytona Speedway, and later as a bank teller at the Barnett Bank in DeLand, FL. He later went on to build a distinguished career as an electrical, mechanical, and safety engineer, working with organizations that included NASA (Cape Canaveral, FL), General Electric (San Jose, CA), Astronautics (Milwaukee, WI), Martin Marietta (Orlando, FL), and Coleman Research (Orlando, FL). True to his engineer?s mind, Bob lived by the philosophy of working smarter, not harder, finding thoughtful, practical solutions in his career, his hobbies, and everyday life. While working full time, Bob earned his bachelor?s degree at Milwaukee School of Engineering and later his MBA from the Florida Institute of Technology. He attended classes at night and studied after long workdays, faithfully pressing forward toward his degree. Each evening his studies came to a halt at 9 p.m. when the family cat would knock his paperwork off the desk, letting him know it was time to wrap up the books and take the nightly ice cream break. It became one of those small, beloved rituals that reflected both Bob?s discipline and the warmth of home life around him. He remained an avid reader and lifelong learner, always curious and always eager to share what he knew. Throughout his life, Bob gave generously of his time and talents. A 32nd Degree Mason, he belonged to the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry in St. Cloud, FL, and maintained his membership with the Bahia Shriners in Orlando, Florida, serving as Commander of the Legion of Honor of the Bahia Shrine in 1998. He also supported Make-A-Wish Foundation and Give Kids the World, serving ice cream to critically ill children and their families. As part of the Bahia Shrine Sojourners, he provided historical education in costume for school programs. He was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution in Arkansas, volunteered through Vet to Vet with Arkansas Hospice, and brought joy to countless people as ?Stringbean? the Clown with the Hot Springs Village Shrine Club. Bob loved history, machinery, moto??rcycles, and people. He was a member of the Antique Gun Club in Conway, Arkansas, where he enjoyed presenting ?show and tell? from his vast collection of historic guns. He also belonged to the Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle Club, embracing the friendships and adventures that came with the open road. Those who knew Bob will remember his remarkable gift for conversation. In the spirit of Will Rogers, Bob truly never met a stranger. His mother once joked that he had been vaccinated with a phonograph needle, and Bob likened himself to a ?Chatty Cathy? doll with a pull string. He could talk with anyone about anything, often surprising tour guides and docents with little-known facts during his travels. He knew a little about a lot, and a lot about many things. Bob was especially proud of Carol, whom he lovingly credited with introducing him to FUN. She often joked that she was his ?novelty act.? With Carol by his side, Bob grew from a strait-laced rule follower into someone willing to try new experiences, from jet skis and motorcycles to RV adventures together in Arizona, Michigan, Florida, and Texas, joining new organizations and forging deep friendships along the way. Together, they opened the door to enriching adventures and lifelong relationships. The family extends special thanks to the teams at Right at Home and at Life Touch Health (Arkansas Hospice) for the compassionate care they provided throughout Bob?s final days. A safety engineer at heart, Bob was always ready with a briefing, a story, or a bit of wisdom. Marshall Bass requested Martin to leave the dance. It was said that Martin had been drinking and that as the offcer walked away the youth attacked him with a knife, inflicting several abdomen wounds. A posse of officers who went ot Martin?s home in Gillett reported that the youth had barricaded himself in the house and they considered it inadvisable to attempt to arrest him. Mixon Jr. and the late Jerry Hebert Bass Sr., died Saturday at Fort Smith. He had been ill with hepatitis for five months. He was a 1962 graduate of Hall High School where he was president of the senior class and a two-year starter for the Warriors football team, playing end and place-kicker. In 1961, he caught a touchdown pass and then kicked the extra point that beat the Pine Bluff Zebras 7 to 6. The same year, he kicked a 32-yard field goal in the final seconds of a game to beat the Benton Panthers 9 to 7. He attended Harvard University and the University of Arkansas. Fatal Accident Hugh Bassett, a boy of 17 years of age, son of Mr. Henry Bassett, publican, Church Street, Downpatrick, went to spend Christmas Day with his grandfather Mr. Hugh Hughes, of Ballyrennan. Between 3 and 4 o?clock in the afternoon, he took out a gun to shoot small birds. In crossing the ditch down to the road, it is supposed that he put out the gun to support himself, and that in this way it went off, lodging the whole contents in his breast, and causing instantaneous death. So close was the gun to him that the adding set fire to his clothes, a great portion of which was burned. Deceased was serving his time to the Messrs Joson, builder, of this town. A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, Mr. Bassett received his education from Grace High School and Asheville-Biltmore College where he earned a degree in business. He was working at J.B. May Market in 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked. By May of 1942, he was serving in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific as an airplane armorer and aviation ordinance specialist. Upon returning, he married the love of his life, Jean Grisette. Together they shared 71 years of marriage. Charles spent the early part of his career at the Smoky Mountain Hatching Egg Service in Fairview. He was an integral part in the development of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as Assistant Chief and on the Board of Directors. Charles spent the latter part of his career at Finkelstein's, Inc. where he had the privilege of working alongside his brother June and his son-in-law Joel. Together they have had the honor of serving the people of western North Carolina and beyond. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Asheville, where he served as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, and elder. Always a Marine, Mr. Bassett was instrumental in the development of the Western North Carolina Veterans Memorial, located in the heart of downtown Asheville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry Grant and Rosa Bassett; his brothers, H.G. "June" Bassett and Robert "Bob" Bassett. Charles is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Carol McManus (Paul) of Port Orchard, WA, Cathy Piercy (Cliff), of Colorado Springs, CO, and Laura Parker (Joel) of Asheville, NC; and a sister, Mary Rose Davis. The son of the late William and Diane Bassett, Doug was born in Boston, Massachusetts on May 30, 1973. Doug attended schools in Easton, Massachusetts, Brattleboro and Pioneer Valley, Massachusetts and ultimately receiving his GED. Doug was an amazing artist and took classes at River Valley Gallery School downtown. His favorite drawing tools were Cray-pas pastels. From a young age, Doug was always interested in the way things work. He could take apart a television, put it back together and have leftover parts that he claimed weren't needed. He was so brilliant! He loved to read the World Almanac for fun. Doug had received some sort of amateur radio in high school and his love of radio began. Later in life he got his first job at WKVT and then moved on to WTSA. He had an amazing radio voice. After years in radio, he then worked at Hannaford's in Produce and had become the Assistant Produce Manager. If you didn't catch Doug in the Produce department then you might see him flying around town on his beloved electric bike. Doug enjoyed simple joys and had a sweet, gentle soul. He leaves behind his son, Daniel McCauley-Bassett of Chesapeake, Virginia and his sister, Elisabeth Bassett of Brattleboro along with many extended family members and friends. Tommy is the beloved husband of Sherry Scogin Bass and cherished son-in-law to his mother-in-law, Norma Scogin. Tommy was also a loving brother-in-law to Jan Bell (Ronnie). He was a proud and loving father and stepfather to his children and stepchildren, Karen Barton (John), Tassy Phillips (Dustin), Michael Raymond (Jacque), Starr Folden (Glenn), Amy Bourland (Roger), Sean Bass, Miranda Matte (Steven), Marc Budyach (Amanda), and Angelique Troelstrup (Mark). He retired as a superintendent with CSX in New Orleans, where he was known for his hard work and dedication. Tommy had a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures in life. He was an avid gardener, finding peace and satisfaction in nurturing plants from seed to bloom. His love for the outdoors included fishing and camping, activities he enjoyed with his family and friends. Tommy was a history enthusiast, always eager to learn more about the world's past and share his knowledge with others. O'Connor in 1975, residing at the corner of Tyler and Washington St. until 1999 when they returned to Burnet. They made it for more than 52 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister Karen Eileen Grantham, daughter Leasa Kay Bassett, sister-in-law Sandi Kay Gandre and dear friends, Katherine Cannon, Patty Hastings, Kay Brooks and Pat Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Bren Bassett of Dripping Springs and Romi Bassett of Belton, her grandson Joseph Bassett-Pechacek, her brother Wilfred A. "Boy" Gandre, nephews Johnny P. Grantham Jr., and Roam I. Grantham and his wife, Meredith, along with niece Sandra Kay Wills and her grand nieces and nephews, Karyn Louise Grantham, Lauren Marie Grantham, Roam Jacob Grantham and Cody James Wills, many precious cousins and dear friends Lainey Shepperd and Sybil Floyd. | 1140 | Austin American-Statesman, Texas, Wednesday, 15 October 2025 Michelle Bassett Michelle Segall Bassett, born July 23, 1955 in Austin, passed away on October 4, 2025. She grew up on Lake Austin in a home situated on the water's edge directly across from Mt. Bonnell. West Lake Hills was "the country." When not skiing or sailing the Sunfish, Michelle rode her quarter horse through the hills, rarely encountering either human being or vehicle. At that time, there was one school in West Lake Hills: Eanes Elementary, with one classroom per grade. After completing sixth grade, Eanes students commuted to "town" to O. Henry Jr. High and Austin High. An awkward situation occurred in the Segall family when Westlake High opened in 1969 and Michelle was scheduled to go there. She rather emphatically said, "no, thank you" and implored her parents to pay AISD tuition so that she could continue at AHS. They agreed, even though the Eanes district had just employed her father as the consulting engineer on the shiny new school. Michelle loved all things Austin High and considered it an honor to be a Maroon. Red Jackets (the AHS drill team) provided some of her very best times and fondest memories with lifelong friends. Graduating in 1973, she went to the University of Arizona, where she pledged Pi Beta Phi. After freshman year, she transferred to TCU and completed her BBA. The next dozen years were spent in Corpus Christi and Galveston, where she developed a love of saltwater fishing. Michelle worked in sales for a handful of large and medium-sized companies but also had the pleasure of teaching senior English in a small parochial high school in Galveston, forming lifelong friendships with both students and parents. In 1990, Michelle and then-husband Ron Bassett moved back to Austin just in time to give birth to daughter Caroline. She lived in the same house not three miles from her childhood home on the lake for most of the remainder of her life. Though she and Ron parted ways in 1995, she fondly remembered their many adventures into the interior of Mexico, usually towing a fishing boat. They managed to stay out of serious trouble, met many interesting people, and had loads of fun. In the early 90s, Michelle was elected to the West Lake Hills city council. She served two terms and holds the distinction of being the only native-born West Laker elected to public office in the city. By the mid-90s, as a single mother, Caroline and career required her full attention. She worked for a division of the Walt Disney Company and two other large companies designing and equipping early childhood, public school, and college classrooms. During her later years before retiring, Michelle owned Home Remedy, a small firm that recruited and placed home care for elderly and disabled people who wished to remain in their homes. Finally, in 2023, she opened Corwin Hills Equestrian Club with friends Katie Quinlan and Stephanie Palmer. Having served on several charitable boards, Michelle found her calling with Stephen F. Austin High School Continuing Education Foundation (AHSCEF), a 501(c)3 nonprofit that funds need-based scholarships for Austin High students who might otherwise be unable to go to college. She served on their board for many years with a wonderful group of dedicated Maroons who are passionate about helping deserving AHS kids get a head start. Everyone who knew her was aware of the special place Michelle had in her heart for dachshunds. Over the years, she and Caroline adopted a grand total of ten low-riders. Her other animal loves were her horses, Bucket and Tucker. She was never happier than when seated firmly in the saddle. Around ten years ago, at daughter Caroline's urging, Michelle began playing Texas Hold 'em. They made dozens of raucous poker trips to Las Vegas, and she was lucky enough to find an enthusiastic group of players in Austin, a number of whom became friends. Michelle was predeceased by her parents, Mimi and B Segall; aunt, Marjorie Kokernot; uncle, Ralph Segall; cousin, Johnny Kokernot; and her godparents, Pat and George Warren. She is survived by her beloved stepson, Robson Bassett; former husband, Ron Bassett; a host of incredibly loving girlfriends; cousin, Suzee Robison; and daughter, Caroline Michelle Bassett. "Caroline is my hero, my inspiration. She's the wind beneath my wings. She has the purest, kindest heart, the quickest mind, and the most outrageous sense of humor of anyone I've ever known. | 1142 | Austin Daily Herald, October 4, 1929, Page 2 William Bruce Bassett Dies at Rose Creek William Bruce Bassett, a pioneer of Mower County, died at 1 o?clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Andrew Jensen, in Rose Creek following a stroke of paralysis which he suffered on Sept. 18. The best of medical care was given him but he gradually grew weaker and he slept peacefully away. Mr. Bassett was born near Lansing, Mich., Nov. 13, 1851. His mother died when he was five years old and at that time he was taken into the home of Rev. Pitt, who composed the song, ?The Little Brown Church in the Vale.? Later he went to Canfield, Ohio, to the home of his grandparents, who reared him until he was 16, when he came west to be with his father at Lansing, Minn. He lived with his father until his marriage to Jessie Ann Padden of Austin, Nov. 13, 1872. Three children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Bassett, Wilton C., who preceded his father in death, Mrs. Andrew Jensen of Rose Creek, and Miss Winifred Bassett of Portland, Oregon. Besides his wife and two daughters, Mr. Basset leaves to mourn his death one sister and two brothers. Mr. Bassett was of kindly disposition, honest in all his dealings and was liked and respected by his friends and neighbors. He was a farmer all his life and was a member of the Methodist Church since boyhood. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Sunday afternoon at the Methodist Church, Rev. Beyond his academic contributions, Bassett was a man of many passions. He was an accomplished photographer and poet whose creative works reflected his love for exploration and beauty. Interment will follow at Jarrett Cemetery in the community of Gallatin, Texas. After residing at Pinnacle Senior Living for several years, Shirley peacefully passed away on January 26, 2024, after a short illness in a local hospital. Shirley was born in Cherokee County on April 17, 1936, to Violet Hamilton Broadhead and John Buford Broadhead. She lived in Mississippi as a young child during WWII while her father worked in a shipyard. Once the war was over, the family returned to Jacksonville, Texas. After graduating high school, she attended business school while working at the Liberty Hotel as a waitress. lt was around this time that she met her lifelong husband, Ralph Bass, and they married in 1955. Ralph joined the Air Force and, as a result, they lived in several states and also the Philippine Islands during the Vietnam war, while raising a family. Their last home together was in Jasper, Texas, where Shirley became a legal secretary and worked for over twenty years in a law firm. They were members of First Baptist Church of Jasper. She knew Jesus as her Savior and instilled a lasting foundation of Christian faith in her children. She is preceded in death by her parents Violet and John Broadhead, her husband of forty-nine years, Ralph Bass, her son Kevin Bass, and her brother-in-law, Gary Stewart. She is survived by her daughters Kim Slack (married to Robert Slack) and Penny Page (married to Jake Page) and daughter-in-law, Lauren Bass, and her grandchildren, Kristen, Kelly, Sam, John and Sarah, and great grandchildren Ian, Lorna, Morgan, Adeline, and Leighton. She is also survived by her brother, Gerry Broadhead (married to Betty Broadhead), and her sister, Wanda Stewart. Additionally, Dr. Bassett is a member of the American Legion, has donated time to the Tri-County Partnership/Hope Not Handcuffs program, and has served as a board member of the Orange Regional Medical Center. He was born on May 13, 1959 in McCook, Nebraska and moved with his family to Phoenix as a toddler. Mike graduated from Maryvale High School in 1977, played drums in the MHS marching band, was active on the yearbook staff, and yearbook editor his senior year. He graduated with his degree in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University in 1984. He loved working at KJZZ Radio, in the late 1970?s to 1986. Mike made his career at Arizona Public Service as an electrical engineer in Energy Management Systems, for 25 years. Known for his 12-string guitar and his voice, he played and sang for SEARCH retreats, and with so many parish choirs. He always looked forward to his next Disneyland or Walt Disney World trips, since his teens to age 65. Mike had the ultimate sense of humor; his goal in life was to make everyone laugh and smile. When he quietly blessed strangers with rosaries he carried with him, they sometimes cried; they were always grateful. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Patsy; his siblings, Kathrin, Kelly, and Kurt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Myrtle Bass, and his siblings, Robert II, and Karla. He served in the Army and was stationed in Whittier, Alaska, during the Korean war, and later became the manager of Sherfy Distributing Company until his retirement. He was married to his wife, Dolores, for 59 years until her passing in 2011. They have two daughters, Linda Wright of Tumalo, and Rita Follett, who passed in 1997. Buck enjoyed visiting with friends and family, target shooting with his buddy, Glen, and traveling to Indian casinos with his Niece, Deb, and her husband, Tristan. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and he will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores Bass; daughter, Rita Follett; and his grandson, Ira Justin Wright. She is survived by husband Allan Bassett, daughter Rebecca (Bassett) Gifford, spouse Randall of Wichita, son Craig Bassett spouse Marla of Cassoday. They lived in Wichita for over 25 years before moving to Goddard where she worked for the Goddard bus barn as a para on the bus. She loved her job as a para for the special needs children and getting to see and help with the children every day. Marsha has 5 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
