His wife Ernestine Harvey-Bass, and son, Derrick Curtis, preceded him in death. In the 60's, R.C. opened and began operating his own business-the Westside Plumbing & Heating Company. For over thirty years, his enthusiasm for life and his desire and commitment to help others kept him working faithfully and diligently throughout the Chicago area. In particular, he served the Lawndale Community, the neighborhood in which he resided. He served as a role model and surrogate father to many in the community and readily offered warmth, counsel, advice, and guidance to those in need. Robert C. Bass was a faithful member of the Greater Open Door Baptist Church and supported the Pastor, Rev. Dr. Richard Nelson, and the church family as Chairman of the Trustee Board and Treasurer of the Church. Robert C. Bass leaves to respect and cherish his memory; his loving and devoted children, Dyrell R. The attorney for Bass made a motion to quash the indictment on the grounds that it alleged spiritous liquors and in another paragraph alleged it was beer. | 1307 | Chronicles of Pitt County North Carolina, 1982 John William Bass Mr. and Mrs. John William Bass moved to Farmville, North Carolina in August, 1926. John William was born October 19, 1881. He was the son of John Thomas Bass and Emma Smith Bass of Wilson County. On October 26, 1910, John William married Addie Lenora Owens, born November 12, 1884, daughter of Benjamin Owens and Cynthia Howard Owens of Wilson County. John William died December 8, 1951; and Addie Owens Bass died September 30, 1961. Both are buried in Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville, North Carolina. After moving to Farmville, John William ?Bill? continued to operate his farms in Wilson County. The four children of John William and Addie Owens Bass are: Edna Lurine Bassett, born September 10, 1911, married James Monroe Wheless, Jr., born August 31, 1908, in Farmville United Methodist Church December 31, 1937. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Monroe Wheless, Sr. of Farmville. She graduated from Meredith College, and he graduated from U.N.C School of Pharmacy. She taught school in Edgecombe County and Farmville. He was owner and operator of City Drug Co. until his death April 2, 1976. He is buried in Hollywood Cemetery, Farmville, North Carolina. They have two daughters; Barbara Jean Wheless born March 23, 1943, and Susan Monroe Wheless born August 29, 1948. William Leroy Bass, born February 22, 1913, married hazel Batrice Baker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bunyan Jesse Baker of Greene County, June 13, 1950. Hazel was born December 19, 1917. William Leroy graduated from Smithdeal Massey Business College in Richmond, Virginia. Hazel graduated from East Carolina University and taught in Trenton, Dunn, Wilson and Farmville, North Carolina, for 40 years. The have one son, William Leroy Bass, Jr., born August 19, 1956. He graduated from U.N.C. School of Pharmacy in 1979. William Leroy Bass engaged in operating the Bass Farms with his father, and continued overseeing the farms after his father?s death. He and his wife occupy the home shown in the picture, which was the home of Mr. and Mrs. John William Bass. Lyman McCoy Bass, born June 19, 1919, married Martha Virginia Minges, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Otto Minges of Greenville, North Carolina, March 6, 1943. Martha was born December 14, 1921. She graduated from Mary Washington College, Fredericksburg, Virginia. Lyman graduated from Fork Union Military Academy and Smithdeal Massey Business College. He served in the army in the Pacific in World War II. Lyman died September 2, 1962, and Martha died August 3, 1981. They are buried in the Hollywood Cemetery in Farmville, North Carolina. Lyman and Martha have three children: Sandra Virginia Bass, born May 3, 1944; Judy Morrow Bass born July 16, 1946; and Martha Ann Bass born December 14, 1950. Hazel graduated from Meredith College and taught school in Scotland Neck. Max graduated from Wake Forest University Law School. They live in Dunn where he practices law with his son, John Michael McLeod. Dave graduated from Circleville High School Class of 1964, where he was a three sport star for the Tigers playing football, baseball and basketball. Born in Providence, R.I., on Aug. 26, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Albert & Hazel Bessette Pelletier. She was a U.S Coast Guard veteran of World War II, serving from April 1944 to July 1945, attaining the rank of Seaman First Class. Doris was employed by First Eastern Bank, later P.N.C. Bank, until her retirement in 1975. She was a member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston. Doris enjoyed reading, but she mostly enjoyed spending time with her beloved family. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald C. Wilkins, her second husband, Thompson G. Haggerty, brother, Albert Pelletier Jr., nephew, Wayne Pelletier. Surviving are her sons, Donald Wilkins & his wife Nancy, John "Jack" Wilkins and his wife Carol, William Wilkins and his wife Diane, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Duncan Edward Bass, her second husband, Willie B. Bass, daughter, Linda Pearl Bass, sons, Jerry Edward Bass, and Ronnie Bass, sisters, Julia Wears, Betty Richter, Lois Burtram, and Frances Haan, brother, Donald Hugh, and grandson Billy Bass. Roy was born in Charleston, SC, on October 21, 1953, to the late Robert Curtis Bass and Alma Jean (Poe) Bass. He moved to the Inverness area in 1971 from Tampa, a place he would proudly call home for the rest of his life. Roy dedicated over 50 years to the real estate profession and was most recently affiliated with All Citrus Realty in Inverness. Roy embraced life fully and found joy in the simple pleasures. He loved cruising with his wife and family. He was also a devoted Florida Gators fan. Most of all, Roy treasured time spent with his family. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Peggy Rouse Bass; his son, Andrew (Julia) Moore of Inverness; his daughters, Lisa Konupka of Floral City and Katie (Woody) Worley of Inverness; his brother, Sam (Sharon) Bass of Dunnellon; his sisters, Rhonda Diane (Jay) Skow of Quincy, CA, and Sue Travis of Inverness; several nieces and nephews; and his eight grandchildren, who brought him immense joy. Mr. Cadorette was born December 5, 1938 in Providence, RI, son of the late Lionel and Clarice (Bessette) Cadorette. He moved to Inverness, Florida from Somerset, Massachusetts in 1976. Mr. Cadorette worked as a Teacher for Inverness Primary School and Hernando Elementary School. His hobbies included golf, collecting, boating and landscaping. He will be remembered by his unique sense of humor. Mr. Cadorette was preceded in death by his parents, and 2 brothers, Richard Cadorette and Russell Cadorette. Survivors include 2 sons, Marshall E. Bassett, 91, of Inverness, passed away Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family and Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast. Born in Bristol, Connecticut on June 25, 1925 to the late William and Stella (Satkowsky) Bassett, he was a winter resident, permanently moving here in 2001 from Oregon. Mr. Bassett was a retired tool and die maker and a proud Navy Veteran of WWII. He enjoyed hunting and especially fishing, and loved playing cards and dice in the Biloxi Casinos. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Kim Reed and her husband, Richard, Karen Worthington, Alan Ault, Barbara Geary, Cheryl Wardega, Beth Mclver, and William Bassett; his brother and sister, Donald Bassett and Shirley Tabar; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Graveside services with Military Honors will be on Wednesday, May 10th at 11:30 AM from Florida National Cemetery with the Inverness V.F.W. #4337 Honor Guard officiating. | 1315 | Claiborne Parish Biographies John K. Barrow John K. Barrow, merchant and farmer, Homer, La. Mr. Barrow is only another of the many prominent citizens of Claiborne Parish, La., who owe their nativity to Alabama, He was born in Chambers County on March 18, 1848, but grew to manhood in Claiborne Parish, whither he had moved with his parents in 1857. He received a common-school education and then flung aside his books to enter the army, serving about four mouths in the latter part of the war. He then went on a farm with his father and took charge of the same until the death of the latter. He remained on the farm until after the death of the mother, and was married here in October, 1879, to Miss Sallie W. Barnett, a native of Louisiana, Claiborne Parish, and the daughter of William Barnett. After this union Mr. Barrow and family remained on the homestead up to 1888, when they moved to their present property. He still owns the old homestead and has about 1,700 acres in both farms, 700 acres improved. He has excellent buildings and good orchards on both places. He built a store and embarked in merchandising in the fall of 1889, and carries a stock of dry goods, groceries, etc. He has a good trade and is a successful business man. Located near his store he has a steam saw mill and gin. To his marriage have been born three living children: Aubyin W., Ida M. and John G. They lost two children in infancy. Mrs. Barrow is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. In height Mr. Barrow is six feet, four and a half inches. He was the youngest son of nine daughters and four sons, three sons and seven daughters now living, born to the union of Josiah and Louisiana (Bass) Barrow, both natives of Georgia. The parents were married in that State and removed from there to Alabama, thence to Louisiana in 1857, and located in Claiborne Parish, near where our subject now resides. The father opened a large farm and remained here until his death in 1871. He served in one of the old Indian wars. His widow died in 1877. | Barrow, John K. (I5778)

One shell, a six-inch one, went through the parapet and landed right between Speechly's feet, but it too failed to explode. All the boys were not so fortunate, however..." Clarence J. Bessette 10 Dec. 1915 "INTERESTING LETTER FROM THE TRENCHES" "Lumby Man Gives a Graphic Account of Life on the Firing Line." The news is permitted this week through the courtesy of Miss Marjorie Christien of Lumby to publish the following letter recently received from Clarence J. Bessette of that place, who is a member of "A" Squadron of the Second C. M. R. He writes: December 10, 1915 Miss Marjorie Christien Lumby, B.C. Dear Friend:--- Excuse me if this letter is badly written as I am writing sitting on some straw with a box as a desk: besides, my pencil is just about two inches long. However, though writing under difficulties, I will try to write a long letter as I have much to speak of to you. In the Trenches As it will just be about New Year's when you receive this letter, I will begin by wishing you a prosperous New Year. I received all your letters and also those from Aldea and others. Your last one came to me on the day we went into the trenches for the second time, and I have not had an opportunity too write to you until now. Many interesting things happened in the trenches this time. I will try to tell you everything as it happened. After leaving the trenches last time, we spent about six weeks, on working parties. We were billeted near a nice little town about seven miles back of the firing line; one of the few places along the front that has not been blown to bits by the Germans. We would walk about three miles everyday over the most wretched roads, sometimes in a downpour of rain. When it rains here it is generally accompanied by a cold penetrating wind. I think it was with pleasure we heard we were to have a few days in the trenches. We moved on a Sunday night from our billets to a place about three miles closer to the front line into reserve. On Friday night we moved up to the front line. It was a tramp of some three miles and a half by the road, but unfortunately for us we found that the Germans were shelling the road, so we had to go by a longer way, over a wretched trail, over a steep hill. As I was carrying a very heavy pack, you may judge that it did not improve my temper any. Besides, I had just got over an attack of grippe. We arrived eventually at the front lines without any incident of importance. All was quiet along the lines, and we soon were shipshape. It was raining a little and misty. That night I stood guard with another chap. We took spells of two hour shifts through the night, so you may judge we had not much sleep. In fact, you do not get much sleep in the trenches, one has to steal it between his various duties. When you consider that we do our own cooking, having to travel a considerable distance for water, and to rustle our own wood besides, you may judge we are busy. At night, of course, we take our spells on guard. An Inferno of Noise Our first day in the trenches was not very eventful, until about one o'clock in the afternoon, except that my troop sergeant, Sergt. McBane, was wounded in the foot by a stray bullet about ten minutes after arriving in the trenches. Pete Catt knows him I think. About eleven o'clock a.m. I had a cup of tea, and crawled into my dug-out to have some sleep. I was awakened about two hours later by a very inferno of noise. Word had been passed down the line in the morning that we were to lay low that afternoon as a big bombardment of the German lines was to take place. But it appears they started the show. Inside of a dugout is about the last place in the world to be in a bombardment, so you may be sure I wasted no time in vacating mine. We went through one of the severest bombardments that afternoon, which our line in that part had suffered for nearly three months. It is heartbreaking to suffer, because you must sit down and pretend to like it, hoping your artillery is giving them the same dose. Time and again, shells landed quite close to my bay, covering me in a shower of mud and rubbish, but fortunately we escaped serious damage on our part. Two six- inch shells struck the parapet right in front of me, but luckily they both failed to explode, otherwise you would not have heard from me except on the casualty lists. I have a small bit of shrapnel that struck the trench quite close to my head. One shell, a six-inch one, went through the parapet and landed right between Speechly's feet [Lorine's Note: I believe this is Thomas Speechly from B.C. who also enlisted in the 2nd CMR on 8 Dec. 1914. See notes below], but it too failed to explode. All the boys were not so fortunate, however, as one shell landing on the parapet further up the line exploded, killing one and wounding six. Two of the Coldstream boys were in that lot, Malcolm and Malan K. They are both suffering from shock. The bombardment lasted about three hours, and in that time they put about 350 shells in our part. But I tell you, we have the satisfaction of knowing that the Germans got as much and more back. The most serious losses from the bombardment were in the 3rd C. M. R. They lost over fifty wounded and killed that day, including a Major, a Captain and one Lieutenant. "B" squadron was not in the trenches, so they missed the fun. After the bombardment the remainder of the time in the front line was very quiet. A Ticklish Position On the second night I was put on listening post. That, I think is the most wretched duty in the trenches. You are on duty for one hour and off two. Your duty is to take up station at a spot about sixty yards in front of your own trench and lying flat on the ground to listen for every sound. You must keep keenly alert the whole time and report any suspicious movements of the enemy. The night I was on duty it was raining, and most miserable. We had to lie down right in a mud hole with the rain pouring down on us. There was a large party of Germans working about seventy yards away. We could hear them quite plainly. Of course, we reported it when were were relieved, but as the message was lost or not properly carried forward, the O.C. never received it. In the morning we found that the Germans had built a strong barricade across an important road. You may be sure there was the devil to pay then. As we were not to blame however, we did not get into trouble. I tell you, you have to be wide awake to put anything over on the Germans. The night after I was on listening post we were relieved and went into the support trenches. I was fortunate enough to be put on guard over ammunition, and still more fortunate in being billeted in an observation station. While there I witnessed a splendid piece of work by our artillery. The observation officer spotted two transports of the Germans moving along a piece of road. Of course, our artillery opened on them. The first shot landed about thirty yards in front of them. The second landed right under the leading transport; horses, wagon, driver and all were lifted into the air. I think I saw a thing there, which I am not likely to have another opportunity to witness during the rest of the war. We have since been moved back again, into reserve now, and may be out of the trenches for a few days. At present, we are doing night work parties. I think that is about all there is to tell, except that wer are all well, I saw "Nick" just after receiving your first letter. Also, Walter, Jacobe is still in the same troop with me. I don't think I need anything at present; tobacco of course is always welcome. Mitts and sox are always useful too. Give my best regards to everyone and wish them all a Happy New Year. Marjorie was born to Harry Lenwood Brooks and Bessie Bassett Brooks on July 10, 1922, in Ruleville, MS. She was a long time resident of Jackson, but called Bolton her home for the last eight years. Marjorie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jan Eduard Helfrich; her son, John Edward Helfrich; grandson, Kevin A. Helfrich; two brothers and two sisters. While working at Hawkins Field during World War II, she met a Dutchman who was finishing his flight training. After a brief courtship, he left to fight in the Atlantic Theatre. They corresponded by letter for three years during WWII after which this Mississippi girl boarded a train for New York City before taking a boat to the Netherlands to marry the love of her life. They lived in Holland for four years. Upon returning to the United States, they lived in Mississippi, Texas, and Alaska. After being widowed at the age of 43, Marjorie returned to Jackson to raise her six children. Marjorie retired from the V.A. Hospital in 1984. Upon her retirement, she enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, extensive traveling, and took up the hobby of painting. A member of the Mississippi Artists Guild, Marjorie enjoyed using her talent throughout the remainder of her life. She was also a member of several bridge clubs and played bridge well into her 90s. Left to cherish her memory are her children Mary Lou McCoy (Calvin) of Bolton; Ray Helfrich (Dianne) of Pachuta; Bob Helfrich of Hattiesburg; Janet Mashburn (Bobby) of Bolton; and Kasey Jones (Stennis) of Hattiesburg. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, her brother, Philip Brooks of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and sister Mary Pittman of Jay, Florida. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 9, from 9:30-11:00 at Holy Savior Catholic Church in Clinton, MS, with the service immediately following. Sue was born on April 30, 1942 in Springfield Massachusetts to her parents Ethan and Sarah 'Sally' Bassett. On August 7th, 1971, Sue married George William 'Bill' Ianni of Rutland VT. Sue retired from Tambrands in Rutland VT and the Price Chopper in West Rutland VT. Sue then went onto work at her absolute favorite job, at the former Country Quilts and Fabrics in Mendon VT. It allowed her to blossom and pursue her passion for quilting. For nearly two decades, Sue was a very active member of the Maple Leaf Quilters of Rutland County. She held positions as a Membership Co-Chair and Chair of the Sunshine Fund. Sue left a great legacy and made hundreds of quilts in her lifetime sharing with family members, friends, newborns, Quilts for Valor, women?s shelters, babies born with addictions, and supported many local community raffles. Sue's unlimited creativity encompassed a wide variety of sewing abilities with interests in knitting, crocheting and needlepoint. The quilts and other countless treasures showcased her creativity and artistic gifts she received from her mother and the design capabilities inherited from her engineer father. Sue loved sharing her knowledge and teaching eager students of all ages. The lovely quilts and other handmade items will be cherished through the succeeding generations. Sue loved traveling with family and friends. She was such a cheerful, independent woman, who carried a strong compassion to help others and was a friend to all who knew her. Muskegon ? 10 July 2025 Bonnie Kalene Bassett The Detroit Tigers lost one of their biggest fans when Bonnie Kalene Bassett, age 84, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025 due to complications from a recent fall. Bonnie struggled to make a late inning comeback but knew that it was time to pull herself out of the game. She touched all the bases and slid safely into home with her three children by her side, and her canine teammate Sparky Harwell waiting at the plate. Bonnie was born in Toledo, OH on October 19, 1940 to William & Marie (Gust) Munroe, graduated from Whitehall High School and married Robert Bassett on September 5, 1958. After her children were born she returned to Grand Valley State College where she earned her bachelors and masters degree in teaching. She had been employed at St. Mary's Catholic School and then as a 6th grade teacher for Reeths Puffer Schools for 33 years. She was a dedicated teacher and a loving devoted friend, mother, grand and great grandmother. She poured her heart into her career and made emotional connections with each and every student. "Your mom was my favorite teacher", became the phrase that her family was accustomed to hearing while growing up, and still hear it to this day. No sacrifice was ever too great for her own family, so her children couldn't have had a better role model. Those who knew her will remember her as "the lady with the crazy sense of humor".....often in life's toughest situations. They will remember a die-hard Tigers fan, even in the darkest days. She was a speed demon on a snowmobile, and a book worm too. Her atomic finger jello was legendary! She was the mom who attended every sporting or school event for her kids and grandkids. She was that emotional teacher who cried with her students and had a hug for everyone who needed one. She was the ring leader of weekly tubing trips every summer. She loved horseback riding and had a fascination with Native American History. Every student who went through the Reeths Puffer 6th grade camp program made a dream catcher in her class (and many still have it), but most importantly, they went home with a greater appreciation for native cultures. She also spent many years as an aqua exercise instructor at the YFCA, and volunteered at the Frauenthal theater. She was often known to be a lead-foot driver, spinning donuts and drifting her full size conversion van in the snow just for fun. Her zest for life, endless compassion, and sense of humor made her a role model for all things decent, and she still was teaching how to live, laugh and love, until her final breath. And though she could no longer see the games she faithfully listened to the Tigers, even in her final days. She will be dearly missed by family and friends but her teachings will forever live within us. In the World Series of life, Bonnie Bassett hit a game winning Grand Slam. Reed was born in Martinsville on April 16, 1937. He was the son of the late Henry Grady Moore, Sr. and the late Hester Stone Moore and brother to the late Henry Grady Moore, Jr. He was educated in the Martinsville City schools and Randolph Macon College where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Order. After college, he served in the 2174th United States Army reserve for six years. After his military service, Reed joined his father and brother in the family business, Service Printing Company, where they worked together for many years. He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Martinsville where he served as a Deacon and Trustee. Reed also served on various community boards including the Human Kind Organization of Lynchburg and Oakwood Cemetery of Martinsville. Reed loved his family and always made a great effort to be a part of their lives. Reed loved to travel and had many fond memories of Aruba, Gatlinburg, and Ocean Isle Beach; however, Reed?s favorite place was Martinsville, a town full of friends and family who loved him. Reed was a friend to everyone and met everyone with a smile. He will be missed. He was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Mount Pleasant, Iowa, to Reuben Albert Cameron and Dolly Irene Peery Cameron. On Aug. 5, 1955, he was united in marriage to Eleanor Jane Salmons, who survives. Albert retired as a machinist from M&M Highway Materials. He also had worked as a carpenter and worked for the Columbia Tribune. He was well known for and loved raising Red Bone Coonhounds. He served as past-president for the American Red Bone Coonhound Association. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and farming with his family. He was a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and MU Tigers. His greatest joy was spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He served as a board member for the White Cloud Cemetery Association and served as Deacon for the Millersburg Baptist Church and Grace Bible Church in Columbia. In addition to his wife, Jane, he is survived by two sons, Kirby (Marilee) Cameron of Columbia and Albert Neal (Joyce) Cameron of Auxvasse; one daughter, Rebecca (Mark) Hofmeister of Columbia; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Robert Cameron of Fulton; one brother-in-law, Dave Sutherland, of New Franklin; daughter-in-law, Dina Fentiman, of Ashland; several nieces and nephews; and many friends. Clyde passed away on July 12, with family by his bedside. His Hospice family were also a great support. He was a very accomplished gentleman and lived a fulfilling life. From attending a one-room schoolhouse in Oklahoma to his college days his education continued. He attended several colleges: the University of Oklahoma (BA), NYU(MA); UCLA and finally earning his Doctorate from the University of Wisconsin. Next came the military in Korea. He was a 1st lieutenant in the Army Artillery and served honorably. Some of his stories as a forward observer on the front were frightening! His career was quite extended. He taught theatre in several colleges-Lesley College, SUNY at Brockport, NY, Loughborough University in England and by far his favorite-Central Connecticut State University for many years. His future led him from theatre productions to teaching excited students with dreams of Broadway. He himself acted in many plays, local and in Regional Theatre. He loved doing Shakespeare plays! Theatre was his passion along with constantly reading new literature-5 books per week. His activities were many. The Big one was the First Company Governor?s Horse Guards in Avon, CT. He was active for 30 years as an active member and as a retired one. He made close, forever friends there. ??Lots of parading and military events-plus plenty of riding time. Also, he was in the Granby Horse Council for many years, the president for 2 years. Trail riding was one of his favorite things to do, even in winter. Lots of time there with his equestrian friends. Family just made him glow with love and pride. He has left quite a legacy behind him. His wife, Joyce: best friend, lover, travel companion, problem solver and best buddy. Many happy days were shared. He was predeceased by his first wife, Millicent Bassett, who he loved along with their children. She was also in his thoughts throughout his life. Now more family: William Bassett, son. The only boy, and William was so loved by his dad unconditionally. He could make his dad laugh. Carolyn, daughter, always someone he loved to talk with on the phone, and her husband Mark Brownawell and their son Max Brownawell (our artist) and his partner Matt. Peggy was born on January 14, 1941 to Hugh Dorsey Bass and Corine Pitts in Griffin, Ga. She was the second of their 4 children and is survived by her sister, Melinda Smith. Peggy graduated from Griffin High in 1959. While in high school, Peggy met the love of her life, Tom Bostwick. They married June 25, 1960 and spent 62 years together. Peggy and Tom went on to have 5 daughters. After retiring as a lab technician at Thomaston Mills, she became a dog groomer and breeder. She loved their dogs Amy, Molly and Lucy and cat, Kitty Tom very much. She will be remembered for the compassion and love she bestowed upon her family. She was an excellent cook with a passion for decadent desserts that all enjoyed very much. In her spare time, she was very talented in making Arts & Crafts, especially beautiful flower arrangements, which she enjoyed selling at her yard sales. She loved watching football with her family. The Price is Right, Jimmy Swaggart and Family Feud were some of her favorite shows. Her favorite pastime was shopping at yard sales and thrift stores, and she loved showering these gifts to her family. She had a knack for repurposing her finds and making them beautiful. She also loved gardening, planting flowers, and fishing. She was a devout Christian who loved to praise and worship God. She attended the former Harvest Temple for many years of her life, attended North Griffin Church with her husband Tom for most of her senior life, and more recently attended Abiding Love Community Church. She was a devoted grandmother and great-grandmother who loved deeply. She was affectionately known as ?Granny? and did not hesitate to help raise the grandbabies that needed her. One of her favorite things to do was just sit out on her swing enjoying the sunshine and often her grandchildren. She was a strong woman who loved and cared very much for her husband as he coped with Alzheimer's during her last days. She was a treasure and a wonderful friend to all. He peacefully passed away on April 7, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He leaves behind a legacy of warmth, kindness and unwavering love. Frank was born to the late Frank Bassett and the late Charlotte Wakelin (nee McPherson). Growing up, he was instilled with strong family values that he carried with him throughout his life. He found joy in spending time with his loved ones and cherishing the moments shared together. Frank is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn, and blended family, whom he adored deeply: Dennis, Donald, Leeanne, Darryl and Gina Bassett, Brenda and Stuart Russell, Barry and Bonnie Whitworth and Cam and Connie Whitworth, predeceased by his daughter, Lori Jo Bassett. Each member of his family held a special place in his heart and he cherished the unique bond he shared with each of them. His passion for sports extended beyond playing, as he also dedicated time to coaching boys hockey and softball teams, as well as serving as a referee and umpire. His claim to fame lies in inventing and patenting the Superblade Hockey Blade, a revolutionary innovation that has saved countless dollars for parents and players alike. Frank & Carolyn celebrating 36 years of marriage where they shared a deep and cherished bond filled with happiness and compatibility. Together, they embarked on countless adventures, embracing the love of travel and creating cherished memories during family holidays characterized by love and laughter. We are comforted to know that Frank has been reunited with his beloved and sassy fur baby, Molly. It's heartwarming to imagine them together again, perhaps enjoying the companionship they shared in life. Feb. 22, 2011 Resident of Richmond Willis Arlan Bass passed away February 22, 2011 at his home in Richmond, California. Willis was born March 18, 1924 at the family farm outside of Paragould, Arkansas, the last of six children. His parents, Moses Price Bass and Augusta Estelle (Hancock) Bass lived in the Cotton Belt area near Paragould. Willis graduated from Oak Grove High School in 1942. He served in the CCC camp at Ravenden Springs, Arkansas before enlisting in the Navy. His Basic Training took place at Farragut Naval Recruit Training Facility in Bayview, Idaho. Willis was proud to have served on the USS Petrof Bay, an escort carrier, during WW II. His ship took part in the invasion of Okinawa and was also at the Japanese surrender in Tokyo Bay in 1945. Willis married Betty Sue Price of Paragould, Arkansas on June 26, 1945. Their first son, Richard, was born in Paragould but the family moved shortly thereafter to Richmond where they settled. Their second son, Ron, was born in Oakland, followed by their daughter, Patricia, who was born at Mare Island where Willis served in the Navy during the Korean War. Willis worked as a Traffic Manager at the Ford Motor Plant in Richmond then Oliver Tire & Rubber Company in Emeryville. During this time he was active in the Oakland Traffic Club and served as President of the Club in 1968. He then worked for various trucking companies in Oakland and retired in 1986 from System 99. He liked meeting new people and made treasured friendships that always cheered his life. He will be remembered for his country humor and good southern cooking. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Manley, Older, and William, sisters Edna (Beck) and Dina (Merkel), niece Reba Wait and nephew Gerald Von Beck. Willis is survived by sons Richard (Audrey) in San Francisco, Ron (Diane) in Diamond Springs, and daughter Patty (Vern) Burlingame in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. His Grandchildren are Efram and Sara Burlingame, Eric Bass, Lisa Young, Cortney and Tim Bass. He had six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in California, Missouri, and Arkansas. Visitation will take place Friday, February 25 at Wilson & Kratzer's Civic Center Mortuary from 7-9pm. Private interment will take place at a later time. June 24, 2025 John Thomas Bass, of Round Rock, Texas, departed this life to be with his LORD and Savior Jesus Christ on June 24, 2025, at the sensational age of 99. John was born April 7, 1926, near Hamlin, Texas, to Gertrude Ella Neal Bass and Fred Edward Bass, and was given the name J. T. Bass. John grew up in the Dallas area during the Great Depression with humble means. He and his six siblings succeeded in enjoying each other and having fun despite the leanness of the era. John also spent much time as a child with his beloved maternal grandmother Dora Judy Shearin Neal, who lovingly called him her ?little Jimmy.? He was a great companion to her as a widow on a farm and helped milk the cows, pick cotton, and work the garden. After high school graduation, J. T. enlisted in the United States Army and served as a medical technician in Japan in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign of World War II. Upon entry to the U. S. Army, it was required that he supply a first and middle name and he was thereafter known as John Thomas, naming himself after his maternal grandfather John Thomas Neal who had died months after his birth. In 1957 John graduated from North Texas State College with a degree in Biology, with nearly a double major in Chemistry. He proceeded to work in a Houston hospital as a medical technician drawing blood and counting blood cells the old-fashioned way, under a microscope! He humbly said that doctors would call for him because he was so successful with difficult patients. John met the beautiful Grace Nonee Tedford at the hospital and fell in love with her. He would call her on the phone - from the hospital lab to the hospital insurance office - and play the words of the Jim Reeves song ?Put your sweet lips a little closer to the phone.? She used to love to tell that romantic story! They were married April 29, 1960, in Houston, Texas, and spent almost 64 years together before she passed away in 2024. John was chivalrous and protective of his bride, served her well, and loved her to the end. In 1972, John, Nonee, and their daughter Melissa moved to Austin where John began his career at the Texas Department of Health Resources. He traveled around the state registering and licensing thousands of X-ray machines, and per a newspaper article in 1981, he alone was responsible for tracking down those who failed to register. Upon completing 20 years of service with the Texas Department of Health, he retired as the Chief of Industrial Radiography & Reciprocity at the Bureau of Radiation Control. On the home front, John and Nonee enjoyed working a big garden together every year and always had fresh vegetables for the dinner table. The first thing John would do when he got home from work each day was walk out to the garden and inspect the progress, picking anything that was ripe. John also joined Nonee in her love for roses and they entered rose shows together. He would also participate in her crossword puzzle solving when she would get stuck - or if she put the paper down, he couldn?t resist having a go at it. They also loved playing Texas 42 dominos, and in their later years played classic dominos with family and friends. Sundays (and Wednesday nights) consisted of the love of Bible study and worshipping their Savior together at church. John was a greeter for many years at Hyde Park Baptist Church as well as Austin Baptist Church where he and Nonee were founding members. John enjoyed serving by setting up the chairs each week for the Sunday service at the temporary ABC location. John also in retirement fulfilled a desire for woodworking. He built a workshop in the backyard and began creating birdhouses which he gifted to many. One day he showed up with a hobby horse for his grandson, followed by a doll cradle for his granddaughter, and then fulfilled a request for a puppet theater, as well as other novelty items. John was an athletic fellow and loved tennis and golf (even won trophies!) He occasionally played golf with a 90-year-old man, which at the time was a fair gap in their ages, but he loved to bring joy to people. He served as treasurer for the Austin Senior Golf Association for years. In retirement, you would regularly see him driving his pickup truck with his golf cart in the back of the truck bed! A beautiful trait of John was that he was content to be himself and never felt a need to impress folks. The last time John was on a golf course hitting golf balls, he was 98 years old! He was a devoted grandfather and could be found at every Trick-or-Treat candy bucket, many a soccer, football or baseball game, theater performances, school programs and Eagle Scout project. Regularly his truck would be seen at the end of the soccer field and he would be leaning against it, wearing his shorts, tall white socks and a cap! John was stable, methodical, intelligent, and diligent at all the things he did in life. He was grateful for all that he had and appreciated time spent with the ones he loved. He was a wonderful host and wanted to serve to make everyone comfortable and happy. Most of all, John was kind and a gentleman with a pleasant demeanor. His eyes twinkled with a joyful spirit and he always had a smile on his face. It was his mission to make people smile and lighten their load. He would say something witty and unexpected, and laughter would erupt (he would even amuse himself at times!) Everywhere he went he had folks laughing and smiling with his singing and his wit. John loved music, loved to sing, and loved listening to his LP albums on his Victrola record player. He loved his music ?smooth? and his favorites were hymns and Jim Reeves. John was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 64 years, Grace Nonee Hudgins Bass, his parents Gertrude and Fred Bass and his beloved sisters Camilla Duplantis and Nellie Medford, and stepdaughter Dareria Lynne Combs. He is survived by siblings Freddie Thomas, Jackie Bass, Oleta Holt, and Diana Barnett, and by his children John T. Bass, Jr., Peggy Ann Branton, Melissa Ruth Hill, stepson Randall Tedford, and grandchildren Meagan Word, Alex Branton, Robert John Eino Hill, III, Audrey Grace Hill Campbell, Duane Tedford, Sean Tedford, Daniel Gilara, Jennifer Gilara, Elizabeth Gilara, and many great-grandchildren as well as great-great-grandchildren. We all delighted in John Thomas Bass, beloved father and grandfather, and he made the world a better place. What a blessing it will be to see him again in Glory! A visitation for John will be held Tuesday, July 1, 2025 from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home, 14501 North Interstate 35, Pflugerville. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. Bass, 97, of Muskogee, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 21, 2024. He was born on December 19, 1926 to Floyd ?Jack? Bass and Mary Elizabeth (White) Bass in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He attended Edison Elementary School, Alice Robertson Junior High, graduating from Central High School of Muskogee with the Class of 1944. During his teenage years, he was a Golden Glove boxer and worked in the family business, Bass Grocery Store. Upon his 18th birthday, J.B. enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater during World War II, receiving an honorable discharge at the end of the war. After returning home, he obtained his associate degree from Draughan?s Business College of Muskogee. He married the love of his life, Barbara Jean Whitby on June 16, 1950 at Central Baptist Church of Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared 56 years of life, marriage and family and were constant companions travelling and camping until her passing in 2007. J.B. in his early years worked in the insurance, finance and investment business. Later he obtained his real estate broker?s license and sold many properties. During this time, he also developed several subdivisions and built custom homes. J.B. accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was an active member of Southeast Baptist Church for over 40 years. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball, was a 32nd degree Mason, loved playing dominoes and board games, and enjoyed many outdoor activities. He was a lifetime avid fisherman and could usually be found on a local river bank or lake shore with a fishing pole in his hands until the last days of his life. J.B. never met a stranger and will be missed by everyone who loved him. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Barbara; his parents, Jack and Mary Elizabeth Bass; son, David Jay Bass; sisters, Jackie Holwell and June Cotter; and son-in-law, Gary Adamson. J.B. is survived by his 3 daughters and their spouses, Lisa Adamson-Fowler and Clint Fowler, Gayle and David Yarbrough, and Stacye and Bill Beane; 7 grandchildren and their spouses, Tiffany Adamson-Bowley and Jarrod Bowley, Jason and Maria Adamson, Nathan and Jenny Yarbrough, Jeremy Bass, William ?Beau? and Alyssa Beane, Blake and Kathryn Yarbrough, and Kaleigh Beane; 11 great grandchildren, Jaxon, Kasen and Laken Bowley, Ava Adamson, Evie, Eliot, Eleanor and Emmett Yarbrough, Savana and Kamryn Yarbrough, and Owen Beane; sister, Joan Murray-Hogan; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family. George was born in Coshocton on July 24, 1953 to the late Arthur and Helen (Ramsey) Bassett. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and the Army National Guard for two years. George had worked at Stone Creek Brick Company for many years and was employed at Kraft Foods for several years until his health wouldn't allow him any longer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. George treasured time with his family and getting together with his brothers on Friday nights. He is survived by his wife, Brenda J. (Wolfe) Bassett whom he married on July 18, 1975; three children, Sherry (Jason) Mikesell of Coshocton, Brian Bassett of Fresno and Jessica (Chuck King) Bassett of West Lafayette; three grandchildren, Tad Landis Jr., Bethany Landis and Taylor Bassett; three brothers, Richard (Cindy) Bassett of West Lafayette, Russell (Mary) Bassett of Conesville and Dale (Linda) Bassett of Coshocton; sister-in-law, Ann Bassett of Coshocton; several nieces and nephews; and his special canine companions, Roscoe, Daisy and Heidi. Lynch who preceded her in death in 1989.
