March 19, 2026 Haywood Glenn Bass, of Baton Rouge, LA, aged 96, passed peacefully in his home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on March 19, 2026. On the previous evening, he had joyfully learned the good news of the birth his first great grandchild. Haywood was born in Winnfield, Louisiana to the late Burney and Serena Bass on December 6, 1929. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stan Bass; sister, Lesker Bass Bates; and his former wife and mother of his children, Fran Bass Copes. The surviving loved ones include his son and daughter-in-law, Billy (Bill) and Rachel Bass; daughter, Elizabeth Bass Cunningham; and his significant other of 39 years, Barbara Beckmann. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Joshua Bass, Charity Bass Early and husband, Connor Early, Nathaniel Bass, and Grace Bass; and his great grandson, Peter Early. Haywood graduated from Winnfield High School and later joined the US Army where he was a specialist in radio frequency electronics. Following his army service, he worked for Aero Service Corporation mapping the underground structure of the Gulf of Mexico and southern United States from special aircraft towing an airborne magnetometer flying for hours at 500 feet over the earth. One of Haywood?s proudest accomplishments was building and operating his own business, Bass Electronics Inc. from 1963 until 2012 when his son Bill Bass continued the legacy by obtaining ownership. Haywood was a great proponent of higher education and funded college for his two children, his 4 grandchildren and partial funding for 30 children through his home church in Winnfield La. He believed education played a significant role in building a better future for everyone. Together he and Barbara enjoyed traveling to all seven continents. He enjoyed all his friends of Broadmoor Presbyterian Church over the last 62 years where he was an Elder and Sunday school teacher for many years. Visitation will be held at Broadmoor Presbyterian Church, 9340 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge, LA, on April 13, 2026 from 10-11 am, followed by the Funeral Service at 11 am. He was educated in Halifax and Alamance county schools, loved his bluegrass music and played in the Green House River Band. He worked as a carpenter and was of the Methodist faith. | 1710 | Greensboro News & Record, North Carolina, Sunday 29 May 2022 Harold Augustus Bass SALISBURY, NC - Mr. Harold Augustus Bass, Sr., beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2022. He was born to the late Douglas Bass, Sr. and Eatrice Tate Bass on December 8, 1934 in Madison, GA. Harold was educated in the public school system of Alexandria, VA, graduating from the historic Parker Gray High School. He then attended Virginia State College in Petersburg, VA, where he met his future wife, the late Lula Belle Crawford Bass. While attending Virginia State, Harold became a member of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity. He would later become a life member of the distinguished fraternity, serving as senior province vice polemarch for the Middle Eastern Province. Following his studies in music education, Harold married Lula on June 29, 1957 and settled first in Washington, DC then moved to Brandywine, MD to raise their family and ultimately built his dream home in Ruffin, NC in 1981.In 1957, Harold was drafted and served six years in the United States Army, receiving the Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in 1963. Harold began his career with Kraft Foods, then Sealtest Dairy, in 1964 as a dairy delivery man and after more than 30 years with the company, he retired as regional sales manager for a multi-state area. Following his successful career with Kraft Foods, Harold dedicated his time to community service to include serving on the boards for the Ruffin Volunteer Fire Department, the Rockingham Council on Aging, Help Incorporated and Rockingham County Library. He also served on the Parish Council of Holy Infant Catholic Church and the Rockingham County Planning Board. He went on to organize the Ruffin Whistlestop Jubilee for successive years, a street festival whose proceeds benefitted the volunteer fire department. In 1996, Harold was proud to receive the Governor's Volunteer Award for Outstanding Volunteer Services. Other civic and social affiliations included serving as a member of the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce, President of the Reidsville Rotary Club and on the Wachovia Bank Board of Directors. His passion for community culminated with his election to the Rockingham County Board of Commissioners in 2004 and re-election in 2008, serving as chair of the Commissioners during his terms. Harold and Lula were blessed with a large and close-knit family. He raised his family with strong core values, a belief that everything was possible and a devotion to the Catholic faith. He was very proud that he and Lula were able to support all of his children attending and graduating college. Prior to his passing, Harold was a resident of Trinity Oaks Assisted Living facility in Salisbury, NC. Harold will be dearly missed by his family and his community and is survived by his son, Harold A. Bass, Jr. (Deborah and children - Brittany and Tyler), of Concord, NC; daughters, Adrienne B. James (children - DeRyan and Taylor), of Salisbury, NC, Marina M. Bass (children - Adrienne and Noah) of Winchester, VA; Leslie A. Bass (child - Caden) of Upperco, MD, and Janice L. Bass of Stuttgart, Germany; two great-grandchildren, Legend and Dallas James of NC; beloved sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and dear friends. | 1712 | Greensboro Record, North Carolina, Saturday, December 24, 1949 Yule Spirit Proves Aid To Unfortunate Family The people of Greensboro and surrounding county towns have given generously this year to worthy ogranziations but now they have dug down in their pockets once again here at Christmattime to help a needy man and his homeless family. A fire leveled the home of Gurley Bass, Negro construction worker, last week and while he and his wife were shopping in Greensboro, three small children, Joe 5, Terry 3, and Lorenzo 2, were left alone in the house. Fire razed the small structure but no before the 5-year-old boy performed an act of heroism. Joe reaced into the house and brought Lorenzo out from his be while Terry ran to a nearby store for aid. Neighbors reported that the house was so full of smoke when they arrived minutes later that it was impossible to enter and salvage any of the household goods and the family?s holday gifts. They reported that the small boy entered the smoke and flaming house to rescue his brother. The family is now living with Ollie Rankin, a neighbor, and the thoughtful efforts of Mrs. Cliff Haley of Pleasant Garden will help to brighten their Christmas despite the loss of their worldly possessions. Mrs. Haley started a drive to help the family and to date has been able to give the Bass household five large boxes of clothing for both children and parents, toys and other small children?s gifts. She reported that she has received several letters and Christmas cards containing small amounts of money. A lady phoned earlier this week to report that she recently purchased a new stove and that she would be glad to contribute her wood stove if someone could pick it up. A Pleasant Garden citizen has given several pieces of furniture and the family has been placed on the Chamber of Commerce?s Empty Stocking Fund list. | 1714 | Greenwood News, Indiana, November 1, 1935 Bass Rites to Be Solmenized Here This Afternoon Former Local School Instructor Succumbs to Strange Malady Funeral services for Mrs. Ella I. Bass will be held from the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Alexander L. Miyat, pastor of the local congregation. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery. Mrs. Bass passed away at the Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis at 1:25 o'clock Wednesday morning. She had not been in good health for the past years and a half, but was not confined to her bed until about four weeks ago. Her condition became critical on Sunday and she was taken to the hospital, where specialists said that she could not survive longer than Wednesday. She was suffering from a rather unusual disease which attacks and destroys the white corpuscles in the blood, a disease which in almost every instance, cause death. Perhaps the woman in the Greenwood community was better known as more universally loved than was Mrs. Bass. She had been so closely associated with the schools that everyone knew her. Mrs. Bass was born in Indianapolis, the daughter of Joseph and Alice Irwin. When she was quite young, the family moved to Southport and she spent her girlhood days there. At the age of sixteen she began teaching in the township schools and later attended DePauw University and a normal school in Ohio. Again their residence changed to Indianapolis and for several years during the 90's she taught in the schools of that city. In 1894 she was married to Mark K. Bass, a son of William Bass of this city, and in 1908 they moved to Tacoma, Washington, for residence. They had resided there for five years when Mr. Bass was called here by the serious illness of his father. While enroute home he was taken ill and forced to remain in Boise City, Idaho, for a week before continuing the journey to Tacoma. After reaching home he grew worse and passed away about two weeks later. The family, which consisted of Mrs. Bass and her two sons, William Irwin, and Maurice L., returned to Greenwood for residence. She was for many years a member of the Presbyterian church. Mrs. Bass became head of the Domestic Science Department in the Greenwood schools, a position which she held for several years. Her next position was with the YWCA at Indianapolis and later at the Eliza Baker School. A little over four years ago Mrs. Bass went to Franklin College when she took a position as cook at the Phi Delta House, a position she enjoyed because of the opportunity it offered to be associated with young people. Here she made many acquaintances and the members of the fraternity held her in the highest esteem. She was forced to give up this work about a month before the close of the school year in 1934 because of ill health. Surviving Mrs. Bass are the two sons, William Irwin Bass, of Baltimore, Maryland, with whom she spent quite some time this summer, and Maurice L. Bass of Greenwood. November 2, 2020 MADISON-Beloved mother and Nona, Mary Ann (Kissane) Bass passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, 2020, at her home. She was born on Nov. 14, 1943, to Mary Delores (Gervasi) and Harry Lawrence Kissane. Mary went to St. Joe?s Catholic School and then graduated from Madison West High School in 1961. She was a dedicated homemaker while her children were growing up. Mary was famous for her cooking and baking skills. She was also a master at the sewing machine, she could make almost anything and she could also knit and crochet. People who were the recipient of one of her homemade gifts would treasure them. Mary worked at Telephone Data Systems for 26 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed time at home and caring for her grandchildren. Mary is survived by four children, Kari (Randy) Campshure, Shari (Shannon) Chaffee, Norman (Eileen) Bass and Lori Bass; and her grandchildren, Nathan Campshure, Calvin Chaffee, Julia Culles, William Docherty, Mary Jane Endres and Nicole Lausch. Mary also enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. Mary is further survived by her two sisters, Alice Tilley and Margaret (Dave) Schroeder. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her beloved, former husband, Gordon A. Bass. To honor Mary?s wishes, there will be a private burial and a celebration of her life at a future date. She helped her dad Henry in the Black Smith Shop for several years in Felt. Mary Jo took painting lessons, and her passion was painting her Christmas cards that she sent out to all of her friends. She enjoyed playing cards with the ladies. Mary Jo worked as a rural mail carrier in Cimarron County for most of her life. Mary Jo married Leroy Jackson Bass on September 24, 1949, in Clayton, New Mexico and he preceded her in death on March 2, 2016. In addition to her husband and parents, Mary Jo was preceded in death by 3 sisters, Lois Peters, Faye French and Velma (Bobbie) Bass, a granddaughter, Kayce Jo Bass, a great-grandson, Zack Deetz and a great-great-granddaughter, Leighton Stapleton. On June 14, 1980, Marty was united in marriage to Leo Bass at the Evangelical Free Church in Marshall, Minnesota. After meeting on a blind date, Marty was privileged to bring Leo to the Lord in a marriage designed by God. The couple had three children and made their home in Walnut Grove, Milroy, and then Marshall. Marty worked as head cook for the Marshall Schools, both at Parkside and the Middle School, and later ran her own business doing quilting and embroidery. She also spent over 20 years serving at Camp Grace in Chandler, Minnesota. Marty had an incredibly strong faith and was continually active in the Tracy Alliance Church, Living Word Lutheran Church, and several bible studies. She always invested in others, especially in ?her littles? ? the next generation. Any time someone needed a helping hand or a place to stay, she took them in and nurtured a needing soul. In addition to relaxing with a book, Marty enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting. She made many quilts and donated to charities like Quilts of Valor, Union Gospel Mission, and other non-profits. She used her skill to better others, even at the Farmer?s Market, where she showed off her creations and helped others with their grown goods. Marty Bass died on Sunday, January 3, 2021, at her home. Scott was born in Flint, Michigan, on February 17, 1956, to Patrick & Leah (Revesz) Bassett. He grew up alongside his siblings and graduated from Millington High School with the class of 1974. On October 16, 1976, he wed the love of his life, Barbara ?Barb? Rohde. Together they shared countless memories, raised their three sons, and celebrated 49 years of marriage. He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church. He spent most of his career working in logistics and most recently worked at Jan?s Dry Cleaners as a delivery driver, which he enjoyed because it included traveling and talking with people. Scott was a true outdoorsman and enjoyed all that the Michigan outdoors had to offer such as: hunting pheasant, fishing, and traveling all over Northern Michigan especially going to Mackinac Island, and the Mackinac Bridge. He was an avid fan of Bob Seger and attended many of his concerts and one could often find him singing one of his tunes. Football was an important part of Scott?s life as he notably is one of the five generations of Bassett?s that have played for the Millington Cardinals football team. Further, he enjoyed attending and watching Michigan Wolverines football games, Detroit Lions games and he enjoyed attending car shows, especially Autorama in Detroit. Scott also served the Millington community along with Jim Saeger putting on the Millington Summer Festival and Parade for over 15 years. He loved animals, especially his golden retriever, Brutus, and new kitten, Sasha. Above all, Scott loved his family and being a grandfather to his grandchildren. He will be so deeply missed. Vilma was born on January 31, 1932, in Colón, Republic of Panama, to Cassandra and Bhula Desai. She was deeply loved and will always be dearly missed. Vilma was a woman of strong faith who cherished her family and valued her many friendships. As a mother, she was a true friend and close confidant. She was a loving, kind, and caring person whose smile and laughter were infectious. Along with her compassionate spirit, she was known equally for her strong-willed, feisty character and her humorous nature. Her lively, outgoing personality shined brightest when she was with her family. Her first pride and joy were that of her children and grandchildren. The second was for her beloved homeland, the Republic of Panama. In 1978, she attained her United States citizenship. At an early age, Vilma began sewing lessons and dreamed of one day becoming a seamstress. In 1953 at the age of 21, she earned a degree in home economics from the Abel Bravo College in the Providence of Colón. She was a creative individual. Her interests included sewing, arts and crafts, collecting dolls, cake decorating, and cooking. One of her passions was giving gifts and making gifts for her great-grandchildren, from baby blankets to hair clips and accessories. She was also an avid music lover and enjoyed taking the opportunity to dance whenever it presented itself. Patty leaves behind her husband, of 36 years, William O'Neill, Jr., stepson William O'Neill III and wife Jennifer, their children Jared and Logan, and her stepdaughter Carolyn O'Neill Bellody and husband Tom, their children Liliana, Jeffrey, Leah, and Kayla. Patty also leaves behind, but with so much love, her sister Margaret Roux and her husband Dennis, sister Nanette Bassett and her wife Leanne Gill and her brother William Bassett and wife Laurie. She also leaves her niece Emily Roux and her partner Eric Torres, great niece Bailey and great nephews Dominic and Matthew. Patty is predeceased by her loving parents, Henry and Lorraine (Dufresne) Bassett, her uncle Richard Dufresne and nephews Matthew and Glenn. Patty graduated from Springfield High School in Springfield Vermont and was a proud member of the class of 1968. She served her country by being a fingerprint reader for the FBI in Washington DC in the 60's and was a graduate of Dartmouth Vocational College. For over 40 years she worked as a medical assistant in Connecticut's Farmington Valley area where she was admired and loved by co-workers and patients, many of whom are close to this day. A graveside burial service will be held at St. Mary's cemetery in Springfield, VT at a later date. Pat was a registered nurse and was employed by the State of Connecticut, working at the Mansfield Training School for 25 years. She was raised with a strong faith and shared that with others. Pat volunteered for several charitable organizations and was very involved in the communities she was a part of throughout her life. She was an avid card and board game enthusiast and enjoyed family adventures with her children and grandchildren. Pat along with Peter were lovers of travel and adventures. Bass Cale Bass, 53, of Concord, went to his heavenly home with Jesus on Sunday, April 16, 2023, after several years of declining health. He is whole and healthy again and celebrating being reunited with his father who passed away just a few short months ago, on December 30, 2022. Cale was the dearly loved son of Steve and Gail Bass. He was born November 11, 1969 in Atlanta, GA. Cale was named after NASCAR legend Cale Yarborough. Gail was pregnant in 1969 when she and Steve attended the race in Atlanta and met up with Cale Yarborough there. Yarborough and Steve made a bet that if Yarborough won the race that day and Gail gave birth to a boy, that they would name the baby "Cale." As fate would have it, Gail gave birth to a baby boy, and they named him Cale in honor of Yarborough's win. Cale was preceded in death by his father, Steve Bass; maternal grandparents, Garland Brock and Haddie Brock; and paternal grandparents, Wilbert Bass and Elizabeth Bass. Cale was a staunch defender and protector of animals and loved his rescue dogs, cats, and horses as if they were children. He was a gentle giant whose love and compassion for animals was known by all who knew him. From the time he was a small child, he began taking in all kinds of animals from a wounded hawk and an abandoned baby squirrel to guinea pigs, stray dogs and cats, etc. Cale had a heart of gold and a beautiful smile and laugh that will not be forgotten. Concord ? 3 January 2023 Stephen Wallace Bass Stephen Wallace Bass, 77, of Charlotte, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 30, 2022 surrounded by his family. Steve was born December 19, 1945, in Washington, DC, and was lovingly raised in Kenly, NC, by his parents, Wilbert William Bass and Elizabeth Tyndall Culbreth Bass. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Betty Culbreth Edgerton and Gail Marie Bass Faucette. In 1964, Steve met his soulmate, Janice Gail Brock, while attending Mount Olive Junior College. They were married on June 25, 1965, at the bride's home in Mount Olive. Steve and Gail became foster parents in 1981 and fostered 62 children over the course of 20 years. During this time, they opened their hearts and home as their family of four grew into ten. Steve loved worked in the trucking industry until his retirement in 2014 from ABF Freight in Charlotte. Steve and Gail spent many weekends camping in Holly Bluff Campground, Asheboro. Gospel music spoke to his heart. Steve enjoyed attending gospel music concerts with friends and family. He also loved sports, especially baseball (Go Braves!). He was also a lifelong racing fan and loved NASCAR. Steve dreamed of restoring his 1968 yellow Ford Torino and making it a show car. He cherished time spent with his children tinkering on his car. Steve had a servant's heart and was passionate about giving back to his community. For approximately ten years, in the '80s, Steve served as a volunteer fireman for the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed the brotherhood of his fellow firefighters. In the early '90s, Steve became involved with Special Olympics. He was inspired by the athletes he met and decided to take classes and obtain his certification to coach. He coached soccer, basketball, and track-and-field. Steve was a former member of Kingsway Baptist Church, where he and Gail started the first NC Friendship Class, a Bible-based ministry for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. They felt led to share the love of Christ with the very special and loving friends they had made through Special Olympics. Steve was very patriotic and always loved the military, but he never had the opportunity to serve. He joined the USO at Charlotte-Douglas Airport and would work every Saturday morning serving those who serve us. He enjoyed spending time with soldiers and their families and considered it a great honor to do so. The greatest love in Steve's life was God. His next great love was his wife of 57 years, his "angel," Gail. They had a once-in-a-lifetime love that everyone seeks. One of Steve's greatest accomplishments was being a daddy to eight wonderful children, whom he cherished: Donna Bass Phillips (Jamey), William "Cale" Bass, Erica Bass Christopher (Brad), James "Jamie" Stephen Bass, Angela "Angel" Susan Bass, Amanda Bass Davidson (Colin), William "Todd" Bass, and Elliott Thomas "Tommy" Bass. Steve was also blessed with six grandchildren, Jacob Phillips (Rikki), Hunter Phillips, Alyssa Christopher, Zoe Antonescu, Annabel Bass, and Syrenn Bass. Gail grew up in Westford and graduated from Nashoba Valley Technical High School with a certificate in graphic design. She was very artistic and enjoyed drawing and music. Gail married Leo Bessette in 1992. They lived in Townsend and were married 20 years before Leo?s death two years ago. Gail will always be remembered as a gentle, peaceful person who loved her children, animals, and the great outdoors. She loved walking her dogs, kayaking, snowshoeing, and spending weekends at their camp in Vermont. Dearly loved by her family and friends, Gail was always ready to spend time talking, hiking, or visiting flea markets. She would take any opportunity to be outside, surrounded by nature. Sunday, April 22nd, 2023 Dolores Linda Edwards Bass, 87, of Swannanoa passed away April 22, 2023 at Rose Hill Retirement Community. Dolores was born November 11, 1935 to the late Mary Eloise Bright Edwards and Hugh McClellan ?Rebo? Edwards. She was a 1953 graduate of Lee Edwards High School and also attended St. Genevieve Secretarial School. Growing up in downtown Asheville, in what is now the historic Montford district, Dolores enjoyed spending afternoons at her aunt and mother?s hair salon, Vanity Fair Salon of Beauty, going to the movies and soda shop, and many summer trips to Virginia Beach with family. She spent her early years working as a secretary in the textile industry for Beacon Manufacturing Company, Northrup, Chemtronics, Wamsutta, Winston Mills, and continued on as an emergency room patient registration clerk at Mission Hospital. She finished her working years with the payroll department of Asheville Anesthesia Associates where she retired at the age of 70 in September of 2006. Dolores thoroughly enjoyed cooking, reading, completing crossword puzzles, watching NFL and Carolina basketball, and Jeopardy, in which she would win against any who challenged her. She loved attending the Women?s Bible Study at The Cove and she had a passion for stray animals, which included many furry kittens joining her homestead. Her biggest joy was her grandchildren, whom she loved immensely. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Sidney Earl Bass; brother and sister-in-law, Gary and Marilyn Edwards; and grandparents, James Oliver Bright and Margaret Elizabeth McLean Bright. | 1743 | Haskell Funeral Home ? Lovell ? 28 February 2024 Jeffery Stringham Bassett Jeffery Stringham Bassett died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2024, at his home in Lovell. He was born to Joe and Iris Bassett on January 25, 1961, in Lovell, the fifth child and fourth son. He would later be joined by his younger sister Jackie. Being the youngest, the two were close and have remained so. Jeff was the first boy born in Lovell in 1961, so he received a basket full of goodies. Jeff spent the first year of his life in Kane. When he was 1 year old his family moved to Road 15 in Lovell, where his mother lives today. Jeff was a busy boy. He spent a lot of time with Brad Tippetts. The two of them could get in more trouble than the law would allow. One night when spending the night at Brad's, the two had a shotgun. The gun went off and shot a hole in the floor. No one was hurt, but they damaged the floor. Being resourceful the boys fixed the hole. Wilford and Marilyn, Brad's parents, only found out when they moved. Jeff grew up on the farm and enjoyed tractor work. He also learned to work cattle from his dad. He always talked about being a roper at rodeos, practicing constantly with bales of hay with horns. A lesson he learned from his dad and passed on to his sons was, "Never run your horse, or you will be walking." When he was 7, he was working with his dad burning weeds when the propane tank exploded, leaving Jeff severely burned. These burns would be with him for 57 years, ultimately causing him much pain and illness. He graduated from Lovell High School in 1979 and went to Ricks College the fall of 1981 for a year. He then returned to work on the family farm. In the summer of 1986, he began dating JodyLynne Woody. The two were married in 1987. They recently celebrated 36 years of marriage last November. To this marriage four boys were born, Jacob, Jackson, Jesse and Joey. These boys were Jeff's pride and joy. The family spent many weekends camping, hunting and fishing. He used to say he spent more time untangling lines than fishing. Jeff's lifestyle was farming. He instilled hard work in his boys. Many of life's lessons were taught on ditch banks. His boys were all athletic. He spent many Saturdays watching wrestling. After a match the boys would visit with their dad on what they did to win a match or what they should have done. He was so proud of all their accomplishments. All four boys were State placers. Not too many dads could say that. He was supportive of his wife and boys in all that they did. His handsome and successful boys are all married. Jeff finally got daughters. He graciously received them into his life and home. Having daughters meant having grandchildren. He used to say, "I always thought my boys were smart until I had grandchildren. They are geniuses." Jeff was on the Sunlight Drain board and worked to help his neighbors. He was a shareholder in the Western Sugar Cooperative. He was awarded Cooperative of the Year for the Shoshone Conservation District. Jeff and JodyLynne loved to travel. The places they have been and the friends they have made along the way will always be special. They were best friends and did everything together. Jeff will be missed by many, especially by his boys and wife. Jeff was preceded in death by his dad, Joe Bassett, and nephew Jeremy Croft. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend, JodyLynne; four boys, Jacob (Tosha), Jackson (Lara), Jesse (Kat) and Joey (Tori); grandchildren Khloe, Kannon, Louanna, Twyla, Baron and Samson, with a tie breaker due in May; mother Iris Bassett; brothers Rusty (Sonja), Jodee (Donna) and Matt (Tracy) Bassett; sisters Jennifer Cerroni and Jackie (H.K.) On July 18, 1959, he was united in marriage to Marion L. Bleser at St. Patrick?s Catholic Church in Elkhorn, WI. Marion died February 10, 2021 after 61 years of marriage. Ed proudly served in the US Army, including a deployment to Korea. He worked for over 36 years as a crane operator for Magill and Welkos Construction Company of Elkhorn. Ed was a member of the Operating Engineers Union Local # 139 and a member of the Elkhorn American Legion Post # 45. Ed enjoyed working around the house that he built for his family. February 16, 2023 Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Columbia for Nelda Jo Bass, 71, of Columbia, who passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023 at her residence. Interment will be at Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery in Columbia. Rev. Jeffery Bass and Rev. Valton Douglas will officiate the services. Visitation will be held from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm on Monday, February 20, 2023 at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Born and reared in Marion County, Nelda was a lifetime resident. She loved crafting?making quilts, dolls, floral arrangements, and many other things. She enjoyed spending time in her yard, and the family jokes that she could burn anything! Nelda was a devoted wife and mother, and she loved investing time into her grandchildren. She was a member of the Eastern Star Carley Lodge. She was a longtime and faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her Parents, John Richard Webster, Sr. & Doris Gladys Powell Webster. She is survived by her Husband of 52 years, Lowery ?Larry? Auston Bass, Sr. of Columbia; one Son, Lowery Auston Bass, Jr., of Columbia; two Daughters, Tammy Annette Bass, Tamatha Ann Aultman (Chris), both of Columbia; one Brother, John Webster (Rebecca), of Columbia; one Sister, Judy Goar, of Columbia; seven Grandchildren, Whitney Givens (Kolby), Jamie Haddox (Kayla), Ethan Bass, Adain Bass, Joanna Walden (Austin Buffington), Jordan Walden, Ann Walden, all of Columbia; five Great Grandchildren, Rhett Haddox, Gunnar Givens, Kambree Haddox, Wacey Givens, Evelynn Haddox, all of Columbia; and a number of Nieces & Nephews. Mrs. Bass was a member of Bethel Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher for many years. She was a wonderful mother to her six children and grandmother to her 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild; as well as a loving foster care parent to 12 children throughout the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley L. Bass, Sr.; daughter, Maggie Stanford; grandson, Carlos Bass and her parents, Pierce & Eleanor Bennett. Born April 26, 1927 in Connellsville, he is the son of Cline and Arta (Pletcher) Bassett. Preceded in death by his parents, and brothers R. Paul and Clarence E. Bassett. He is survived by his loving wife the former Dolores Wertz to whom he was married 68 years, daughter, Gloria (Robert) Pritts, Rockwood, son, Daryl (Nancy Ptak) Bassett, Ohiopyle; sister Helen Trimmer, Silver Springs, Md; grandson Adam (Liz Diesel) Pritts of Somerset; granddaughter, Katie Bassett of Ohiopyle. His eyes lit up when great-grandchildren, Jake, Ellic and Sawyer Pritts, and Evie and Miles Diesel were around. Clair was proud to serve 13 years in the US Army serving in WWII and Korea and enjoyed his tours of duty in Austria, Germany and Italy. His love of hunting and fishing led him from and oil delivery business in York, PA to Laurel Hill Trout Farm in Somerset which he owned and operated from 1964-1990. He was a member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Bakersville where he served on council for many years, past trustee of the Bakersville Community Grove, past member of the Bakersville Fire Department, US and PA Trout Farmer's Associations, Laurel Ridge Sportsmen and Laurel Mt. Mission Team. Friends received 10a.m.-12 noon Wednesday at the Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Bakersville where a service will immediately follow at 12 noon with Reverend Dena M. Gable officiating.
