The daughter of Denver and Veleria Bassett attended the University of Kentucky and graduated from Georgetown College the same year her daughter graduated from high school. Athalie began her teaching career in a one room school in Owen County and also taught at Bethany and at Owen County Elementary. Students there will remember her as Miss Peggy. She also taught at Taft, Oneida, and Amanda in Middletown. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Middletown where she was active in her Sunday School Class and Circle until it became necessary for her to live in an assisted living environment. As a gift of love she crocheted the cloth used in communion services. She is survived by her daughter Irene Webster Orem (Jim) Middletown, OH: a sister Norma Tipton of Georgetown, KY; 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son Eugene Webster and her husband Y.L. Mulberry. Funeral arrangements are with the Johnson Funeral Home, Georgetown, KY and burial in Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will be two hours prior to the funeral. The funeral will be Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 1:00 PM. Judy was a successful insurance agent with over forty years working for Nationwide Insurance prior to retiring. She enjoyed traveling and spending time with her friends and family. December 20, 2025 Life and Faith Donna Lou McFadden, age 68, of Leesburg, Virginia, peacefully transitioned from this life on December 20, 2025. She was born on August 2, 1957, in Lima, Ohio, to James and Odessa Bass, who preceded her in death. From an early age, Donna demonstrated faith, kindness, dedication, and a deep love for her family and friends. She accepted Christ at a young age at Mount Olive Church of God in Christ in Lima, where she faithfully served as a nurse to the pastor, Elder Elijah Webster, as well as a member of the kitchen ministry. Her life reflected a steadfast commitment to faith, family, service, community, and her chosen profession as a psychiatric nurse. Service and Career Donna graduated from Lima Senior High School, Class of 1975. She then entered the United States Army, where she was selected to be a cadet at the United States Military Academy; although she chose not to accept the appointment, she served honorably for two years. While on active duty, she met the love of her life, Letroy McFadden, and they were married on July 29, 1977, sharing forty-eight years of marriage. Donna later returned to school at The Ohio State University, where she earned an Associate Degree in Nursing. She dedicated her career to psychiatric nursing, focusing on mental health and substance abuse recovery, serving at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia; with the American Red Cross in Nashville, Tennessee; and at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Virginia. Through her work and compassion, she left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Family Donna was preceded in death by her parents, James L. and Odessa Bass; one brother, James L. Bass Jr.; and one sister, Deborah Mae Bass. Donna is cherished by her husband, Letroy McFadden of Leesburg, VA; one daughter, Deborah Kaiser of Woodbridge, VA; and two sons, Chauvon L. (Alicia) McFadden of Leesburg, VA, and Terrence (Vanessa) Bass of Fairfield Township, OH. She is also survived by one sister, Diane Malachi of Colorado Springs, CO; three brothers, Darren (Pam) Bass of Lima, OH, James D. Bass of Centreville, VA, and Dexter (Kathleen) Bass of Sidney, OH. She leaves to cherish her memory two aunts, Margaret (Russell) Harris of Powell, TN, and Ella White of Cincinnati, OH; three grandchildren, Corey, Austin, and Alison; and a goddaughter, Shay Brooks of Prince Frederick, MD. She was also blessed with two very dedicated caregivers, Patricia Goodson and Monica Boafo, and a host of other loving family and friends. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her faith, compassion, and unwavering love. He was born in Shelton, Conn., son of the late George and Ann Bassett, and spent the past year in Nuremberg after moving from Sugarloaf. He was a retired carpenter and served in the Coast Guard during World War II. Surviving are his wife, the former Leona Harker; children, Tommy and Tracy Bassett, both at home; brothers, Edward, Connecticut, and Ralph, North Carolina; and a sister, Esther Urishin, Freeland. Rena was the best Mother in the world and being a homemaker, wife and mother were her greatest accomplishments. This week was to be her and her husband Del's 60th anniversary. Linda was born in Dowagiac, MI, on April 28, 1950. She was a Plant Dispatcher for American Axel in Three Rivers, where she worked for 24 years. Linda was also a past secretary of Second Baptist Church, where she was a member. She was also a member of united Auto Workers and National Association Advancement of Colored People. Linda was also a member of Dowagiac Garden Club and enjoyed golf, fishing and traveling. Linda was happy when her boys and family were at her home. On April 19, 1969, she was married to Van Johnson, who survives. She is also survived by two sons, Ryan Johnson of Kalamazoo and Van Johnson Jr. (Jodi) of Sterling Heights, MI; two sisters, Janet (Carrol) Ivens of Marcellus and Glennis Godbee of Grand Rapids; two brothers, Kenneth Bass Jr. of Columbus, OH and Ronald Bass of Niles, MI. Her parents passed away and she went to live with awful Aunt Annie and then with Edith and Walter Hovind. She attended schools in Geneva, NE, Amarillo, TX and graduated from Osceola, Iowa with the class of 1967. She then attended college at York, NE. She worked as a waitress at Champlin, sold Avon where she won many awards for salesmanship; managed Breadeaux Pizza and worked at Hardees, Pizza Hut and Lakeside Buffet until her retirement. Carol was united in marriage to Dick Bassett on February 3, 1968 at the Church of Christ in Osceola, Iowa. She is cherished by her loving family; daughters, Jodie and Pat (Sonny) Collins and children, Megan, Chris, Ciara; Missi and Stephen Lanier and children, Dalton and Delanie; son, Mark Hatfield and Greg; sister-in-law, Fonda Isenberger; brother-in-law, Rod and Karla Bassett; sister, Retta and Wayne Risser; niece, Susan (Todd) Stewart and family; nephew, Stephen Risser and Grace Mogatas; grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces and nephews, cousins and her many friends and the special group, The 47 Families. Born July 18, 1945 in Memphis, TN to Mary Katherine ( Née Dameworth) and Hollis Jewel Bass Sr. Things he was proudest of in his life included serving in the U.S. Marines, working with artists and musicians, working at Sprint, being a teaching patient at KU Medical Center. He is survived by his daughter Hadas Laurel (Tony) Becker and his 3 grandsons Isaac, Samson, and Leo of Crystal City, MO. Step-son Brian Gill of Incline Village, NV; Siblings Dan (Kathy) Dart, Judy Pilley, Lori Carter, and Randy Jones. Hollis leaves behind many friends from over the years whom he loved and shared many great times with. He was fond of quoting John Lennon "Life is what happens while you are making other plans." He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sally Bass. Hollis and Sally spent 38 years together, they loved gardening, traveling, riding their bikes, and sharing great food and music together. | 1865 | Kansas City Star, September 7, 2017 Dr. James M. Daley (Picture included) DR. JAMES M. DALEY Dr. James M. Daley, 70, of Olathe, KS, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2017. James was born Nov. 25, 1946, in St. Johnsbury, VT, to Robert M. and Colombe (Bessette) Daley. His youth was full of love and laughter (and some mischief) as he grew up surrounded by aunts and uncles and cousins. His love of books and reading, a lifelong passion, manifested in his early years. When he ran out of things to read at the small-town library, he read the entire encyclopedia from A-Z. In his teens, James moved to Jackson, AL, attended Jackson High School and discovered his love of knowledge and his calling to be an educator. He loved attending his 50th high school reunion. On his first day as a freshman at the University of Alabama he met the love of his life, Marsha Kilgore. He joined Army ROTC and upon graduation was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Transportation Corps. During the Vietnam Era he served 5 years on active duty with assignments in Germany and Korea (thus began a love of travel) and afterwards, 15 years in the Army Reserves. He greatly enjoyed his assignment to the Pentagon two weeks each summer. Starting his graduate degree while stationed in Germany, he completed his Ph.D. at the University of Arkansas, studying under the professor who had initiated his love of Transportation and Logistics while at Alabama. His teaching career spanned over 40 years and included time at Arkansas, Auburn, Wichita State and John Carroll, and culminated with a Deanship at Rockhurst University in Kansas City. He found his home in Jesuit education. Many of his students referred to him as "Dr. D" and his dedication to their growth of knowledge and as human beings was unending. James' devotion to his family was foremost in his life. His 48-year marriage to Marsha was overflowing with joy and adventure. As an only child, he embraced his welcome into Marsha's family of four sisters and parents. He loved their daughter, Tracey, with all his heart. The additions of a son-in-law, Tim, and granddaughters, Willow and Zoe, multiplied his joy. The words his family heard every day were, "I love you" and "I'm proud of you." His love of travel with Marsha never ended, with visits to over 50 countries. He was an active member of Rotary 13 of KC and, upon retirement, James was fulfilled by volunteering with many non-profit organizations including Catholic Charities, Kingswood, Native Sons and Daughters of KC, HEDC, ArtsTech and Salvation Army. He especially loved his time teaching at Fu Jen University in Taiwan, and serving on the Board of Philpott in Cleveland, OH. James was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Colombe. He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Marsha; their daughter, Tracey; son-in-law, Tim; granddaughters, Willow and Zoe; sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. with visitation 9-10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 8, at Church of the Ascension, Overland Park, KS. Interment will take place at a future date in Vermont. | 1866 | Kansas City, Star, June 24, 2016 Lewis Edwin Patton (1927 ? 2016) (Picture included) Lewis Edwin Patton, age 88, of Overland Park, KS, passed away surrounded by his family on June 22nd, 2016 at University of Kansas Hospital. Lewis was born on December 23rd, 1927 in Moberly, MO. He graduated from Moberly Community College in 1947, and from the University of Missouri in 1949 with a degree in Chemistry. Following his graduation, he honorably served his country by putting his chemistry degree to use in the Army Chemical Center in Edgewood, Maryland. Following his discharge from the Army, Lewis taught math and science and later found his passion selling school furniture and science products which led him to found his own company, PEPCO, in 1989, which is now located in Moberly, MO. Lewis was a member of the Village Presbyterian Church in Prairie Village, KS and resided along with his family in Overland Park, KS for 50 years. Lewis was a true gentleman who saw to everyone else's needs before his own. He married Sally Bassett (Zahl) Patton on November 18th, 1951 in Moberly, MO. Lewis loved farming his land and being outdoors enjoying hunting, fishing, and golf. He never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Tigers. Lewis and Sally B. enjoyed traveling frequently and loved their time spent at the Lake of the Ozarks. His family will always remember him for his unselfish character and his legendary story telling abilities. He is survived by his wife of the home, Sally B., and his three children; Sally E. Burton (Doug) of Loch Lloyd, MO; Andy (Lynn) of Kansas City, MO and David (Erin) of Moberly, MO; and grandchildren Scott (Torri), David, Sarah (Jeremy), Drew (fiancé Jillian), Joseph, and great grandson Parker and is also survived by his sister, Mary Sue (Patton) Stansberry of Moberly, MO and many other loving family members. A Service celebrating Lewis' life will be held Sunday, June 26th, 2016 at 3:15 p.m. at Pathway Memorial Funeral Home of Moberly, MO, with a Masonic service beginning at 3:00 p.m. Internment with full military honors will follow at Oakland Cemetery of Moberly. Following his military service, he worked for Columbia Gas for 29 years, and reminisced about it for 20 more. A faithful member of Jersey Baptist Church, Dave cherished his many years as part of the choir. Dave treasured the bond he shared with his best friends Dick Zerman and Paul Morbitzer, which brought him great joy, laughter, and comfort over the years. Dave was the family?s trusted handyman, always ready to repair, build, or lend a helping hand. The lovingly crafted mantels and countless bookshelves he created will remain a constant reminder to those he loved that he will always be with them. In retirement, Dave?s greatest joys were the time he spent with his grandson, Emmet, Sunday family lunches and vacations to the ocean. She started training in the nursing field in September 1940 at Evangelical Deaconess Hospital in Detroit and earned her nursing degree in 1943. She married Jack Clark Bassett on September 25 1943 at St. Paul's Evangelical Church in Warren. They raised Jacqueline Ann Bassett in Roseville Michigan. Jack passed away in May 2 2006. Edna was involved with Erin Presbyterian Church in Roseville. | 1869 | Keizer Funeral Chapel Helen B. Bassett Obituary (Picture included) September 30, 1922 ? November 18, 2016 Helen Bassett passed away on November 18, 2016, in Salem, Oregon, of complications from a broken hip. She was born on September 30, 1922, in Sierra Madre, California, the youngest child of Url and Nellie (Hollis) Fox, who had recently returned from several years of service as missionaries in India. Helen met Jack Bassett at Pasadena City College, and her father married them in 1943. After World War II, they moved to Alaska so Jack could attend the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. Their adventures included building a dog team and a log cabin. They returned to Pasadena after their first son, Martin, was born, so their families could enjoy their grandson. In 1949, they moved to southern Oregon, where they homesteaded outside Rogue River and then went into business with Jack?s parents in Grants Pass. They started a small drive-in called Larry?s, where Helen was the first carhop and the rest of the family took turns cooking as they learned the restaurant business. By 1960, the family had added another son, Scott, and Larry?s had added a coffee shop, dining room, banquet room, and?Helen?s pride and joy--the ?Kashmir Room,? featuring exotic décor, weekend entertainment, and dancing to Leo?s piano and organ. It was a popular 24-hour hangout and stopping point for locals and travelers alike. In the 1970s, the restaurant was sold, and Helen managed the Hood River Inn. She became a trouble-shooter for The Royal Inns of America, covering Colorado, Texas, and California. Later she settled in Lake Oswego and managed Elks Clubs until she moved to Salem to be near her sons and their families. Helen was always very proud of her sons and grandchildren. In retirement, Helen was a longtime resident of Southview Terrace and a volunteer at Salem Hospital. She loved visiting Pasadena, but also enjoyed opportunities to travel abroad with a childhood friend, visiting Europe and Asia, sailing on the QE2, and flying on the SST supersonic airplane. Well into her 80s, she hopped the bus into downtown Salem almost weekly to have her hair done and visit ?the girls? at JC Penney and Nordstrom. Helen is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Martin and Rhonna Bassett, and Scott and Janet Bassett, of Salem, eight grandchildren and their families, and several nieces and nephews. Her friends and family members will not forget her gentle manner, sweet sense of humor, elegant style, compassion for those down on their luck, thoughtful gifts, and penny hunts for the kids. | 1870 | Keizer Times, January 30, 2014 Ron C. Bassett-Smith (Picture included) Ron Bassett-Smith, 64, of Keizer died Jan. 17, after a lengthy battle with melanoma. He was born in Lafayette, Ind., on Sept. 4, 1949, to Charles and Marjorie Bassett, the first of five children. Bassett-Smith served two tours of duty in the military in Vietnam. In 1972, he moved from Michigan to Oregon. He completed a bachelor?s degree in sociology from Oregon State University. Bassett-Smith married his wife in 1976 and they enjoyed 38 happy years together. Upon completing school, Ron began serving his community through his efforts working with disabled veterans and working for refugee employment programs. Ron retired from a career as chief operations officer at Chemeketa Community College. He also served on many boards including the board of directors for the Salem Outreach Shelter and on the budget committee for the Salem-Keizer School District for many years. Bassett-Smith is fondly remembered for his kindness, passion and a sense of humor that bought joy to others. He liked to do things big for his family, such as putting on a fireworks show every 4th of July. His hobbies included classic cars, woodworking and home projects. His only regret was that he only had 40 more hours left to complete the 1965 Barracuda he was restoring with his son, Trevor. Otherwise his life was filled with fireworks, a loving and loyal dog, Bub, his wife and three children and being Grandpa Truck. He is survived by his wife Nina; children, Sean (Makayla) of Seattle, Chelsea (Daniel) of Keizer, Trevor of Keizer; grandchildren, Cameron, Sara, and Weston; his two dogs and two cats. His sisters, Marsha and Paula and his brother, Brian, live in Michigan. His parents and brother Jeff preceded him in death. Tom was born May 14, 1932 in McComb, Miss., son of the late Gale Alonza and Velma Catt Bass. He was raised in M i s s i s s i p p i and, at the age of 17, enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served his country until 1972, including more than 12 years of overseas duty and obtaining the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He specialized in missiles and missile deployment. He was released by the Reserves in 1980. He made Rock Hall his home in 1972, after finding the town while being stationed at the Nike Missile Base in Tolchester. From 1972 to 1978, he worked as a control switch operator in Chestertown and, from 1993 to 2012, he was the town manager and zoning administrator for the Town of Galena. He also worked part time for the Town of Betterton. Mr. Bass was an active member of Wesley Chapel Church, where he had been the Sunday school superintendent and a teacher. He was active with Gideons International and Rock Hall Seniors, serving as past president for both. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, country music and golf. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Caleb Jason Ellis. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Jean Bass; four daughters, Brenda Bass (Charlie Heinefield), Barbara Bass (Cliff Coleman), Betty Holota and Brette Tucker (Bobby) of Rock Hall; three sisters, Barbara Ward of Summit, Miss., Dorothy Dean Beam of McComb, and Sue Smith of Crystal Springs, Miss.; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She grew up on a farm in an environment that taught discipline, hard work, faith in Jesus, and the importance of family. Liz attended school in Clifton and graduated from Clifton High School in 1962. She then attended Marymount College in Salina and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in May 1967. She started her career as a registered nurse in Salina at St. John?s hospital. During her senior year of high school, she met and fell in love with Jerry Patrick Bessette. They were united in marriage on October 29, 1966, in Clifton. Soon thereafter, Jerry was relocated, and Liz began work in Topeka, Kansas at St. Francis Hospital. Liz stayed there for the next 45 years working in multiple roles including ICU Nurse Manager, House Supervisor, and Assistant Director of Nursing. She spent the last 10 years of her career doing some of her finest work at St. Francis as the first Nurse Navigator for patients with cancer in the state of Kansas. Liz retired from St. Francis Hospital in 2014 but continued her service to the community as a volunteer in the both the gift shop, working alongside her husband Jerry, and in the surgery waiting area. Both Jerry and Liz were recognized for their contributions to the community at the St. Francis Caritas Ball in 2015. Liz was a woman of deep, wonderful faith. As a devout Catholic, Liz was a founding member of Christ the King Catholic Church and served as a eucharistic minister. She participated in weekly adoration in the wee hours of Tuesday mornings ever since its inception. Liz?s hobbies included daily mass and prayers, sharing coffee with friends on her porch, daily rosary reflections and traveling to visit grandchildren in North Carolina and Kansas City, as well as relatives located throughout Kansas and Nebraska. However, as anyone who had the gift of crossing paths with Liz knew, her #1 hobby was service. She was most happy sharing her time and talent in the service of others. Her generosity was overwhelming and endless. She lived and gave life to the motto ?You never get less than what you give.? Her treasured mission on Earth was to make saints of as many people as possible. Liz was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Odella; two infant sisters, Catherine and Cecilia, an infant brother, Franklin, and an older brother, Gayle. Those family members who survive Liz?s death are a testament to the significance of Liz?s life. Liz held numerous roles and titles and has positively impacted so many people?s lives. She left a positive mark on every life she touched. Liz was a wife, survived by her husband of 57 years, Jerry. Liz was a mother, survived by her daughter, Angela, and her son, Jeffrey. Born to Mary Kirk Bassett and John Lawrence Bassett on August 26, 1969 in Knoxville, TN at St. Mary's Memorial Hospital. He was the fourth of John and Mary's six children. Ambrose attended Farragut Schools from Kindergarten until the first part of his Senior year. He graduated from Karns High School in 1992 after having suffered a severe head injury in a motor vehicle accident in 1986 when he was 17 years of age. Ambrose lived with friend and caregiver Terry "Andy" Hamilton for many years. Ambrose enjoyed nature, travel, TV, music, and cars. He is survived by sisters, Bridget (Tony) Peterson, Colleen (Chris) Jones, Kathryn Knapp, Deborah (John Paul) Rowlands; and brother, Gregory (Missy) Bassett. He is also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews, Oren and Emily Peterson, Gabriel, Miranda, Madalyn, and Micaela Jones, Julia, Daphne, and Matilda Knapp, Jonah Drumm, Nathan Rowlands, Bryson and Ava Bassett, and many aunts, uncles and cousins. She chose a gown of white peau de sole embroidered with imported Alencon lace and seed pearls. Her veil was held by a taffeta cudhess rose accented with lilies of the valley. She carried a crescent bouquet of orchids and stephanotis accented with pearls. Miss Carol Blanchard of Atlanta was her sister?s maid of honor. Bridesmaids were Miss Freda Brown and Miss Peggy Perkins both of Chattanooga, Miss Nancy Smith of Cleveland, Tenn., and Miss Esther White of Bassett, Va. They wore floor-length gownes of white shantung and white miniature pillbox hats. They carried bouquests of antique gold satin grape clusters centered with white poinsettias trimmed in gold leaf. | 1882 | Kokomo Daily Tribune, Indiana, 5 May 1902 Henry Bassett Dead Well Known Colored Man Passes Away After a Brief Illness Henry Bassett, the well known colored coachman who has bee in the employ for F.A. Leiss, the music dealer, for so long, died Sunday evening at 7:30 o?clock at his late home, near the residence of Titus Ballenger, in the western suburbs of the city, aged about fifty years. Mr. Bassett had only been ill for a period of ten days with a complication of troubles. The funeral will take place at the Baptist church Tuesday in the colored settlement in Ervin township. The remains will find a resting place in the Bassett graveyard near the church. A widow and two grown children, Mrs. Jennie Parmer and Wiley Bassett, of this city, two brothers and a sister, Revs. Richard Bassett and Miles Bassett, and Mrs. Nancy Locust, survive him. Henry Bassett was a Christian gentleman. Mr. Leiss, for whom he worked, speaks in the highest terms of him and says he was one of the best men he ever knew. He was born to the late William and Mildred (Powell) Bass in Searcy, Arkansas. Johnny owned and operated Custom Built Barns which he started in 1975, and is now owned and operated by his son, Ray. Johnny loved the outdoors, especially deer hunting, fishing and camping. He loved spending time with his family and his dogs. Johnny is survived by his wife of 57 years, Fannie (Payne) Bass of Kokomo; children, Rita (Bobby) McClish of Peru, Johnny ?Ray? (Terri) Bass of Greentown, and Renee (Chris) McGinnis of Galveston; grandchildren, Michael McClish, Jason (Shannon) McClish, Holly Olivarez, Johnny D. Bassett, a devoted Christian, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on August 20, 2026, in Newton, New Jersey, one day before her 89th birthday. She was born on August 21, 1937, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, and lived a life marked by faith, service, and steadfast love for her family and community. Born to the late Alice Hritz Byzek and John A. Byzek, Marlene grew up with the values of hard work, devotion, and self-reliance that would guide her throughout her life. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Norene Fireman and by her brother, John Byzek. Those who knew her remember a woman of fierce independence, someone who carried herself with dignity and compassion. Marlene dedicated much of her professional life to her work as a lead system analyst in data entry, serving most of her career at Educational Testing Service in Princeton, New Jersey. Her work reflected the same careful attention and reliability that she brought to all that she did. She was respected for her commitment, her engaging presence, and the good-natured professionalism with which she met each responsibility. Faith was a constant presence to Marlene?s life. She was a devout member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Catholic Church in Roebling, New Jersey, where she served faithfully as a cantor. Her beautiful voice led the choir for many years at St. Nick?s. Her solos during the Christmas season are particularly remembered. With her faith, she lived seeking humility and purpose. Outside of work and church, Marlene loved all of the arts -- the performing arts in particular. She gave generously of her time as a regular volunteer at the McCarter Theater Center in Princeton, New Jersey, and at the Bristol Riverfront Theater in Bristol, Pennsylvania. Her social network ran through these organizations. Her willingness to serve whatever task needed was a hallmark of who she was. Marlene cherished her family. She is survived by her six children, Paul Bassett, Susan Bassett, Kristina Dinich and her husband Ken, Nancy Balliet, Michael Bassett and his wife Sandra, and Robert Bassett and his wife Cindy; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Janet Potts and her husband John, Alicia Byzek, and her brother, Jode Byzek and his wife Denise. She greatly enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As the eldest child herself, she considered herself the matriarch of the family and would cheekily remind you of this fact. In the days ahead, her family and friends will hold close the memory of a woman whose life was richly lived and whose legacy will continue through the generations she so dearly loved. There are no shortage of stories and memories that bring us much joy. We will gratefully remember her laughter. She lives on in our imagination. Dessie retired from AT&T. She owned and operated MAT-3 Arial Truck Service in Wisconsin, with Tom for many years, until his death on May 22, 2005. She returned to Indiana, several years later, and was active, independent and fun to be around. She will be missed. John was a 1996 graduate of Hamilton High School and was also a graduate of American Marine Institute in Daytona, Florida. He was a certified Marine mechanic. He worked for more than 20 years at Vulcraft in St. Joe. He helped build race cars with Burkett Nester Race Cars, was an avid Michigan Wolverine fan and loved spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his mother, Joy Bassett, of Butler; and a sister, Jennifer Bassett, of Butler. John was preceded in death by his father; and grandparents, Charley and Margaret Smyth and Basil and Alice Bassett. She was born on Jan. 13, 1935, in Auburn to Elmer G. "Sonny" and Harriet (Fullmer) Minard and they have both passed away. She was a 1953 graduate of Auburn High School and was a member of Auburn First United Methodist Church. Marsha's work career began in the Assessor's Office in the DeKalb County Court House. She was also the longtime bookkeeper for Supreme Transit Mix. Most importantly, she was an awesome, caring, and giving mother and grandmother to her children and grandchildren, supporting all of their various endeavors. She married Argyl Lee Bassett on June 30, 1956, at Auburn Methodist Church and he survives in Auburn. Also surviving are three sons and a daughter, Kathy (Mark) Staehler, of Indianapolis, Michael (Tina) Bassett, of Auburn, Gregory (Dusti) Bassett, of Steamboat Springs, Colorado, and Timothy (Tracy) Bassett, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren, Christopher Staehler, Nicholas Staehler, Patrick (Leah) Bassett, Braden Bassett, Wade Bassett, Talan Bassett, Beau Bassett, and Preston Bassett; and a half-brother, Jeffery (Amy) Minard, of Fort Wayne. He was born Jan. 22, 1929, in Auburn to Harry and Mildred (Bassett) Knott. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean Conflict from 1950?1953. He married Marjorie Brown on Oct. 16, 1954, in Angola, and she survives in Auburn. Mr. Knott worked as a crew dispatcher for the New York Central Railroad, the Pennsylvania Railroad, and then for Penn Central Railroad before retiring in 1989 after more than 33 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion, Ashley Masonic Lodge 614, Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and the Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine. Also surviving are a daughter, Vickie (Tom) Laughlin of Hurst, Texas; two sons, Bob (Brenda) Knott of Waterloo and Mark (Becki) Knott of Auburn; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jim Knott of Port Charlotte, Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Pamela Knott; and a sister, Grace Forney. Frank lived a full life of love and dedication together with his wife of 23 years, Lori Allen Bassett. Frank is survived by his son Joshua (Josh) Brunza (April Brunza and granddaughter Sadie Brunza); his sisters Carol Bassett Cloer (Allen Cloer) and Janet Tighe. He is also survived by his in-laws Huey and Ruth Allen, Barry Allen (Sheila McLamb Underwood) and Kellie McDowell Rhodes (Steve Lepkowski). In addition, he leaves behind his nieces and nephews: Dr. Danielle Tighe, David Nash-Pappas (Margaret Nash-Pappas), Ben Pappas, Tiffany Tighe Stump (Paige Stump), Dr. Olivia Tighe Bauer (Chandler Bauer), Shannon Tighe, and Caleb Rhodes. He will be remembered for the way he lived life, his kindness, generosity, and unwavering commitment to his family and friends. He especially enjoyed having a beer and ?Better Vision? with his friends. In 1992, he married the former Ramona 'Mona' Currier in Madison, NY. They have lived in Osceola since 1993. Surviving besides his wife, Ramona are six sisters, Sandy & Len Sonia, Linda & Ben Butler, Cindy & Ike Kerr, Tina & Jim Eisenhut, Tammy Jasek, Lori & Gene Massey, three brothers, Dick & Sharon Bassett, Bobby Bassett and Tom & Dorothy Bassett and several nieces & nephews. | 1894 | LaGrange Pioneers George Eelbeck, 1935 George Eelbeck was born in Yorkshire, England, in 1816. He married Mary Frindall in 1848. They came to Wisconsin in 1855, and settled in the southeast conrer of Section 24 of LaGrange, having land also in Troy, where stood the house. They used to walk to LaGrange Center taking eggs and butter to exchange for groceries which had to be carried back. Their four children were: Annie (Mrs. Bassett) of Bloomer, Wisconsin, Eliza (Mrs. Coman) deceased, Sarah (Mrs. George King) deceased, Charles who married Emma Edwards, now deceased; Elbert, their only child, lives with his father on the old homestead. She was a homemaker who loved her family and never met a stranger; she loved to sit on the wooden bench out by the nurse's station at Willowbrook and greet the residents and visitors as they came and went. | 1897 | Lake Funeral Home ? Saranac ? 8 April 2024 Darwin Duane Bassett Darwin Duane Bassett passed away April 5, 2024. He was born in Nashville, MI on June 30, 1954 to the late Richard and Ellen Bassett. He graduated from Maple Valley High School, class of 1972. Darwin grew up on a farm with his four siblings; David, Dennis, Doug and Dawn Bassett. There he gained an appreciation of nature and poured himself into the labor of working on the family farm. After leaving the farm, he worked in numerous industries before attempting to become an entrepreneur, starting his own chimney sweeping and home repair consulting business that he continued until his retirement. Darwin met his wife Sharon in 1978 and later married August 30, 1980. Darwin and Sharon have three beautiful children, Eric (Wife-Danielle, children- Grayson, Bennett, Oliver and Nathaniel), Nicholas Bassett (wife- Anne, children- Theadore and Evelyn) and Jessica Lindner (Husband- Dennis, children - Joseph, Noa Mae, and child expected Oct '24). Darwin enjoyed sharing his interests and spending time with his family. Darwin loved to play basketball with his daughter Jessica, working on electronics projects with Nick, building rockets with Eric, and volunteering as a self-defense instructor for 15+ years. He loved to attend rock concerts with his nephew Mike and enjoyed spending family time at summer BBQs near his hometown. Darwin devoted his life to his children's success and will be missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellen and Richard Bassett, Father-in law Bernie McWilliams, brother-in-law Dennis (Nancy) McWilliams, and sister-in-law Betty Bassett. He is survived by his wife Sharon Bassett and his three children Eric (Danielle), Nicholas (Annie), Jessica (Dennis), His siblings David, Dennis (Mary), Doug and Dawn Bassett, and mother-in-law Mary Jane McWilliams, Sue (Bob) Krygier, Kathy (Tom) Wachter, Rose (Jack) Klein. His grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Grayson, Bennett, Oliver, Nathaniel, Evleyn, Theadore, Joseph and Noa Mae, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Church on Thursday, April 11th 11:00 AM with Father Tom Brown presiding. A visitation will be held at Lake Funeral Home in Saranac on Wednesday from 4-7 PM. "Wayne" Bass, 52, of Lake Placid died Sunday morning, Dec. 4, 2011, in Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Lake Placid, he was born in Arcadia on April 15, 1959, the son of Lillian and R.C. Bass. Wayne drove truck for many years and was an accomplished mechanic who enjoyed tinkering with engines of all kinds. Mr. Bass is survived by a son, Preston Wayne Bass (Liz) of Lake Placid; mother and stepfather, Lillian and Irving Hartsfield; siblings, Raymond Bass (Saundra) of Lake Placid, Ronnie Bass of Sebring and Robert Bass of Lake Placid; grandson Waylon Bass.; and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Venus Cemetery in Venus. Pastor Charley Watts will celebrate. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in the name of Edward D. Terry was a retired Maintenance employee of Alco Warrick Operations in Evansville, IN. Terry was of the Methodist faith and loved woodcarving, making stained glass, traveling, fishing, hunting and square dancing. Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Leslie & husband, Paul, Kuttawa, KY; Jennie Beth Downey, Higden, AR; two sons, Christopher D. Bass, Groton, NY and Jason W.
