Bass, of the firm of Scott Bass & Co., is a son of Thomas and Sarah (Gibson) Bass, and was born in Washington County, Mo., in 1853. He came to Crawford County when about six years of age, and was educated in the common schools. When young he learned to shoe horses and oxen, at which he worked some years. Having clerked in the store a short time he became a member of the firm of Brickey & Bass, in 1879, and has ever since been engaged in the mercantile business, though the style of the firm has changed several times. He is also interested in the Bank of Steelville. In 1875 he married Letha E. Brickey, a native of Steelville, and their four children are: Glendora, Mamie, Harry and Joseph. | 3904 | History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford and Gasconade Counties, Missouri (Part 2) 1888 Thomas Bass is a son of Thomas and Nancy (Compton) Bass, natives of Green County, Ky., where they were married and lived until 1825, engaged in farming; they then moved to Washington County, Mo., where the father followed mining, being very successful until his death in 1840, his widow surviving until 1873. In their family of twelve children Thomas was the seventh son, and was born in Washington County in 1830. He was reared to the occupation of mining, and enjoyed but few educational advantages. In 1850 he married Sarah Gibson, who was born in Franklin County, Mo., in 1829. Having farmed in Washington County until 1860, he moved to Crawford County and settled twelve miles east of Steelville. He has now been a resident of the county twenty-eight years, and his principal occupation has been farming, though at different times he has conducted a hotel at Steelville. He has served in Washington and Crawford Counties as justice of the peace for about twenty years, and has been a member of the Masonic fraternity for thirty-three years. Mr. and Mrs. Bass are members of the Baptist Church, and of their seven children six are living, five sons and one daughter, the sons all being business men of Crawford County. History of Franklin, Jefferson, Washington, Crawford and Gasconade Counties, Missouri (Part 2) 1888 Thomas Bass Jr., is the senior member of the firm of Bass & Bro., liverymen of Steelville. The business was first established in 1880, the firm then consisting of our subject and an older brother, the latter of whom has since retired, disposing of his interest to Joseph S., a younger brother. Thomas Bass, Jr., was born in Washington County, January 30, 1859, and is a son of Thomas and Sarah (Gibson) Bass. He was brought to Crawford County when two years of age, where he received his education in the common schools. In 1884 he married Lillian Trask, a native of Crawford County, and a daughter of Marvin W. Trask. Mr. and Mrs. Bass have one son, Frederick C. Mr. Bass votes the Democratic ticket, and in connection with the duties of his livery stable, which is considered one of the best for the size in the place, be is also interested in farming, owning 285 acres of land. | Bass, Thomas B. | 3905 | Idaho Statesman, April 6, 2018 Jeffrey Bass Jeffrey Paul Bass passed away at his home in Boise, ID, on Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the age of 43. Jeff was born to parents Robert Bass and Mary Ritch Bass on January 23, 1975, in Nampa, Idaho. He grew up as the oldest son with his sister, Kim, and step-sister, Niki. As a child, Jeff enjoyed spending time traversing the North End Foothills of Boise, climbing trees, building forts, shooting his BB gun, riding bikes, sailing at Lucky Peak Reservoir, sledding, skiing, and playing sports in the front yard with his sister and friends. As he aged, his interests evolved to snowboarding, music, camping, and playing tight end (#80). He attended Boise High School and graduated in 1994. "Brave to the Grave." He also studied at Northern Idaho College, College of Western Idaho, and Boise State University. On July 11, 1998, Jeff married Amy Kardos gaining three more sisters: Olivia, Taylor, and Megan, a mother-in-law, Lisa, and a grandma Betty. Jeff's first son, Cameron Robert Bass, arrived on Veterans Day, November 11, 1998. His second son, Alexander Paul, was born July 2, 2002. Jeff's boys were his pride and joy and shared his love of nature, music, humor, and hard work. Jeff worked at St. Luke's Boise Medical Center in patient and visitor services where he always greeted everyone with a smile and especially loved taking care of friends and family when they came to the hospital?going the extra mile to make sure they were well taken care of. Jeff also worked for Mr. Mudd as a polyurethane foam lifter. It was easy to spot Jeff in his giant van as worked throughout the valley. Jeff will be remembered as a loving father, husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend. A musician, recording and sharing his songs played on his guitar. A prankster: especially to his mom, aunts, and sons. A trendsetter: with his unique selection of hats and novelty tees. An animal lover. An artist: leaving his signature "cat butt" in all our homes, on our whiteboards, scrap paper, and with sidewalk chalk. A tinker: building, fixing, and playing with all sorts of gadgets in his garage, house, and yard, which he usually gave to his sons, nieces, and nephews. Jeff was the kindest and most loving person, putting others before himself daily. He never left a room without hugging you and saying "I love you" or "I'm proud of you." We will miss his jokes, his crooked smile, his laugh, and his great big hugs. He is survived by his two sons, Cameron Robert and Alexander Paul Bass; wife, Amy Bass; parents, Robert Bass and Mary Ritch Bass; sister and her family, Kim, Tony, Karsyn, and Paul Zaragoza; step-sister and her family, Niki Jones; Robert's significant other, Elvia Moreno and her family; sister in laws and their families, Olivia Cook, Taylor Meservy, Megan Seward; mother-in-law, Lisa Meservy. Jeff is also survived by a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins in Idaho and California, who he cared for deeply. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Willis and Adalee Bass of Carmichael, CA; grandparents, Russell and Mary Petrina Ritch of Citrus Heights, CA; and grandma in law, Betty Thompson of Boise, ID. He was born May 13, 1911, in Toledo, the son of Moses and Hassiba Bassett. He married Ethel Matteson, who died in 1981. He was the manager and supervisor at Chief Supermarket, Napoleon, for more than 20 years, where he retired. He worked for many years at the former Bassetts Variety Store in Napoleon and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Napoleon, a 32nd degree Mason and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Surviving are a son, David (Elyse) Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; a brother, Victor, Arlington, Va.; and two grandchildren. Also preceding him in death was a brother Dewey. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in First Presbyterian Church, Napoleon, with Rev. Gavin Pitt officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, Napoleon. Bass, both of Richmond; a nephew, Alfred M. Bass Jr. of Providence, R.I.; and loyal canine companion, Shirley. Mrs. Bass was the officer manager with Dr. David Dumville for over 25 years. She was a member and deaconess at Bon Air United Methodist Church and a founding member of Willow Oaks Country Club. Mrs. Bass was an avid tennis player, enjoyed deep sea fishing and loved animals. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, she was a member of the Martin Lutheran Sunday School Class, served on the altar guild, sang with the funeral choir, and was a member of the Lutheran Church Women. Her husband, William Grady Shaw, died May 18, 2002. Survivors include son William G. "Bill"Shaw Jr., Salisbury; daughters Vicki S. Both here and in Oakland he was well-known in fraternal and political circles. Death was due to a dynamite explosion in which Mr. Baird was burned to death. He was 69 years old, a member of Bay View lodge of Masons and the Scottish Rites bodies of Oakland. Baird left Oakland some time ago to visit the plantation of his son, George W. Baird, at Missionary, Louisiana. According to the news of the accident, he was watching the process of thawing out blasting dynamite on the ranch, when the explosive caught fire and a detonation followed. Despite the efforts of his son to save him, he was enveloped in flames from the burning gas and died within an hour. He is survived by his son and a daughter, Mrs. A.S Welch of San Francisco, and a sister and brother, Mrs. Mary Butler of Oakland and David Baird of San Francisco. He is survived by his loving wife, Amy; parents, Randy & David Bassitt; sister, Lisa and her husband Jon DeLange; nephew, Joshua DeLange; grandmother, Shumla Bassitt; Aunts, Stephanie Stanton, Vivian Woods & Linda Cafferty, wife of the late Tom Cafferty; uncles, Marshall Woods & Jerry Stanton, & cousins, Jeff, Eli, Isabel Stanton & Jennifer Burdette. Born in Stillwater in 1968, David grew up in Plymouth, graduated from Wayzata High in 1986 and St. Cloud University in 1991 with a degree in Marketing. David truly enjoyed his work as a manager in the vacuum cleaner business for over 23 years. He always made sure his family and friends had working vacuum cleaners; this was one of the small ways he took care of everyone. He also possessed a love for animals (his favorites were the tiger and the wolf), the outdoors, and many different sports including but not limited to darts, golfing, water skiing, swimming, racquetball and biking. One of this great loves was Rock 'n Roll music, what he called "Thumpin' Music". David had an incredible smile and a zest for living, a foundless energy that could barely be contained. He was outgoing and loved to be with people of all walks of live having fun and making an impact in his own quiet way. He had a humor about him that few could beat, and his kind and generous spirit touched many people in his short life. Due to his very close relationship with the Lord, David was the essence of love and selfless service to his God and fellow mankind. We thank David for the many ways he brightened our lives. He was a genuinely good person who trusted in God and other people and inspired others to do so as well. While he was with us too short a time, we are truly appreciative and grateful that we were given the gift of knowing him - what a blessing it was! He would want us today to firstly, pledge ourselves to knowing and loving God on a deeper level and secondly, to loving each other as we love ourselves. He would encourage all to read and study the Bible, and follow what is says. It was his final wish that we all end up in Heaven along with him. Henry was born on July 8, 1926 in Tennessee to Hugh Bass Sr. and Florence Forte Bass. He was one of seven siblings. His childhood was spent in Indianapolis where he attended Purdue University for engineering. In November 1945, he volunteered for the Navy and ten months later, was drafted by the US Army and received an Honorable Discharge. While stationed at Fort Devens in MA, Henry met Virginia Ann Neves of Boston and they married in August 1953. Henry worked as an Engineer with Rand Corp. and a Computer Programmer with Systems Development Corp. The couple had 2 children, Steven in 1954 and Joyce in 1957 before settling in Lexington, MA. In 1969, Henry and fellow entrepreneur, Thomas Farrington founded IOCS (Input Output Computer Services) in Waltham. As one of the 1st Black owned technology firms in the country, IOCS earned many awards, including being listed on Black Enterprises' Top 100 firms for over a decade. He also invested in Cape Cod real estate. Joe was a faithful member to his church, St. Paul AME in Cambridge for over 60 years and served as a Trustee. He was a member of both the church's choir and the Men's choir. Joe led a very active social life including playing many sports and fishing. As a true Boston fan, he enjoyed watching the Patriots, Red Sox, and Celtics. The many that knew Joe, knew he truly loved and enjoyed food and social events. Joe possessed many admirable qualities and traits that endeared him to many. He will always be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and gift of laughter. He was blessed to live out his dream to fruition - retiring on The Cape by the water that he cherished so much. Henry Joseph Bass leaves many family members and friends to cherish his memory. Jan. 12. 2020 Clydean Bass Amaker, a retired Buffalo teacher, died unexpectedly Jan. 12 while visiting her grandson in Toronto. She was 92. Born Clydean Bass in Buffalo, she was the third of four children whose father owned a meat market and a painting business. She was a graduate of Hutchinson Central High School and earned a bachelor?s degree in education from historically black Wilberforce College, later Central State University. At Wilberforce, she became expert at typing. She toured the nation demonstrating her typing skills and teaching students how to type. She also earned praise as a backup singer for another Wilberforce student, soprano Leontyne Price. Returning to Buffalo, she first taught at School 87 on Clinton Street, then became the first black teacher at School 23 on East Delavan Avenue in the 1960s. Known to her students as ?Mrs. A,? she once became ill, lost her voice and was told by doctors to remain completely silent for 30 days or risk losing her voice permanently. She nevertheless came to her classroom every day and taught her second-graders without uttering a word, a feat acclaimed by not only her colleagues, but also the school superintendent. She retired in 1988. At the age of 81, Mrs. Amaker returned to the classroom in Torchlight Academy, a charter school in Raleigh, N.C., where her daughter, Cynthia McQueen, is principal. She continued teaching until six weeks before her death. During her 11-year tenure at Torchlight, she saw four generations of her family serve there. Her granddaughter, Shawntrice Andrews, is director of special education. A great-granddaughter, A?Shanee Port, was an early childhood teacher. According to her daughter, she never smoked, drank alcohol or used ?bad words.? Her daughter noted, ?Clyde was so proper that on her most recent vacation with her daughter and son-in-law, she strolled on the beach in Florida with her blouse buttoned up to her neck, long pants, stockings and shoes. When her daughter asked, ?Why don?t you wear sandals on the beach,? Clyde responded, ?A lady always wears stockings.? ? The mother of two, she was married, divorced and remarried to Henry F. Amaker II, an entrepreneur who owned a taxi company, a sandwich shop and a dry cleaning business. He died in 1986. Nazik and Moussa, her predeceased husband, owned and operated Hanna's Market for over 30 years. She was a vibrant, compassionate and generous woman who left and indelible impression on anyone she encountered. In addition to being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and godmother, she was admired for her extraordinary wisdom, and considered an inspiration by many. She was also a faithful member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Bass Prominent Citizen Dies At Home Tuesday Funeral services were held at the Momeyer Baptist Church this afternoon (Thursday) for Sidney P. Bass, prominent farmer and merchant who died late Tuesday afternoon of a heart attack. He was 63 years of age. The final rites were conducted by the Rev. E.G. Willis, former pastor of the Momeyer Baptist Church, and the Rev. J.C. Brooks, present pastor. Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Nashville. Members of the board of deacons of the Momeyer Baptist Church served as active and honorary pall bearers. Mr. Bass was a charter member of the Momeyer church and served on the board of deacons for a number of years. Mr. Bass was well known throughout the county and this section of the State as a leading merchant and farmer. With his brother, Bob Bass, he founded and operated the Bass Brothers farm store in Momeyer and had been active in the management of the business.
