Giambruno, 86, of Lincoln Lane, Plattsburgh, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2003, at the CVPH Medical Center with her family at her side. She was born in Plattsburgh on Feb. 18, 1916, the daughter of Peter Arthur and Mary Albina (Mousseau) Bessette. Marian was a graduate of the Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1938 and Plattsburgh State University. She was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Navy as a nurse. Marian had been a public health nurse with Clinton County. She enjoyed reading, arts and crafts. Marian was past president of the Ladies of the Elks, Plattsburgh Lodge 621. She made her home in Florida since 1969 and most recently returned to Plattsburgh. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter Arthur and Mary Plattsburgh Bessette; her husband, Clement W. Giambruno; and several brothers and sisters. She is survived by a son, Robert Zuckerman and his wife Kathryna of Plattsburgh; three grandsons, Derek, Zachary and Michael; and several nieces and nephews. There will be no calling hours. A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the Brown Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kevin O'Brien, pastor of St. John's Church, officiating. | 413 | Requiem Mass was offered on Thursday morning, October 20 at 10:30 from the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Arnold for Mrs. William Bassett who died on Monday evening, october 17 at a North Platte Hospital. Fr. Stephen Deaver officiated at the services. Pallbearers were: Charles Uehling, William Thanel Jr., Albert Hosel, Vincent Gunther, Glen Bassett and Richard Bassett. Interment was in the Arnold Cemetery with the Quig Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements. Flora Thanel, daughter of John and Anna Thanel, was born on May 4, 1886 in Viener, Austria. At the age of seven years, she came with her parents to the United States. They settled in Pine Canyon near Arnold and she attended school in Pine Canyon and at Pleasant Hill. She was united in marriage to William C. Bassett on November 22, 1909 at Callaway, Nebr. To this union were born four children. They resided in Pine Canyon and on Cliff Table until 1915, and at that time they purchased a farme ast of Arnold where they lived until retiring in 1946. Mrs. Bassett was a faithful member and worker in her church. She had been a member of the St. Agnes Altar Society for 50 years and in 1965 was made Honorary Life time member. Preceeding her in death were one daughter, Margaret Marie, her parents, a brother Rudolph Thanel and a sister, Mrs. Anna Wehling. Surviving are her husband, William, two daughters; Wilma, Mrs. Howard Van Cleave, of Arnold, and Mable, Mrs. Frank Hahn, of Omaha and one son, Walter of North Platte; also five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; and two brothers; Frank of Henderson, Nev., and William of Brady, Nebr., and one sister, Eda, Mrs. Charles Schaffer of Callaway; also many nephews and nieces, and many friends. He was born on April 28, 1936, to the late James McPhaul Bass and Anna Ruth Joyner Bass. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Mary Lee Hedgepeth Bass. Stump was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather affectionately known as "Gauggie" to his grandchildren and great-grandson. Stump was born in Beaufort, NC and moved to the Red Oak Community in 1948. He was a member of the Beulah Church of Christ and graduated from Red Oak High School where he was active on their basketball and baseball teams. After graduating from the class of 1956 at Lees-McRae College, he returned to Red Oak and spent his time farming before working at Consolidated Diesel until his retirement. As a veteran of the United States Army, Stump loved his country and was a member of the American Legion post in Nashville, NC. Devoted to his wife, they spent over 45 years traveling and attending NCSU football, basketball and baseball games. A friendly conversationalist, Stump never met a stranger and always had a humorous story to share with others. Literally no matter how far from home he and Mary Lee traveled, they always ran in to someone who knew him. Stump leaves to cherish his memory, children, Karen B Seawell (Jim Glover), Art Bass, John Bass and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Ryan Seawell, Mary Katherine Seawell (Nick DeWolfe), Logan Seawell Briggs and husband Josh, Amber Parker, Hannah, Morgan and John Michael Bass.; and a great-grandson, Nathan Briggs. | 420 | Ross Hollywood Chape In Memory of Laura May Bassett February 10, 1926 – October 13, 2012 Descended from Oregon pioneers, Laura May Hoss Bassett was born on 2/10/26 to Hal and Myrtle (Lantz) Hoss in Oregon City, the youngest of 4 children. The family moved between Salem, Taft, Toledo and Molalla before and after Hal served as Secretary of State from 1928 - 1934. Laura graduated from Molalla High School, where she was class Valedictorian, then studied at OSU for one year. Moving to Portland, she worked for the John Deere Plow Company and as a receptionist at KEX Radio. She later worked at the Deschutes County Clerk office. Following WWII, Laura met Clifford "Bud" Bassett, Jr. on a blind date; they wed on 6/6/47. They were married for 33 years before Bud’s death, living in Bend and Portland. In 1980, Laura met her longtime companion, Jerry Goodwin, with whom she celebrated 32 years together just weeks prior to her passing. A longtime resident of NE Portland, Laura was a homemaker and the neighborhood Avon Lady for over 45 years, making lifelong friends via her sales route. She was fan of Dixieland and a member of the Traditional Jazz Society. Laura enjoyed dancing, travel, a good laugh, and spending time with family and friends as well as her ritual of morning coffee and keno at Sam’s in Hollywood. The extended family will long remember Christmas Eve at Aunt Laura’s when she was likely to play standards on the piano as the cousins sang along. Despite health challenges of the last few years, Laura retained her sunny disposition and skill at the crossword puzzle until the end, and died at home, just as she’d wished. She is survived by her daughter, Jeanine Bassett (Kyle Newell), and son, Robert (Judy) Bassett of Portland, and sister, Jean Gallagher of Salem. He retired from East Carolina University?s School of Business as a professor where he spent 22 years influencing future leaders and receiving several teaching awards. He also managed a lab at Schumpert Hospital in Shreveport, Louisiana, earlier in his career. Ken earned his Doctorate in Business Administration from Louisiana Tech in 1991. He was a Christian and a member of Knollwood Baptist Church. Preceding him in death were his parents, Delphine and Gladys Bass, and sisters Ann Bass Bowers, Madonna Bass Turner, and Mary Dell Bass Ernest He was married for 54 years to his wife Claudette Jones Bass who still resides in Winston-Salem. She is an avid runner who has completed two marathons, a successful businesswoman and a community activist. Bermuda’s first female Senate president previously worked for BF&M for more than 27 years. She began work as a secretary and used courses at the Technical College to advance her prospects. She retired from BF&M in 2004 as vice president of Life Insurance. Mrs. Bassett is married to Roderick. Both are retired, they have three sons and a granddaughter. Senator Bassett is a member of the Mount Zion AME Church. Carol Anne Bassett has achieved much in her life. Yet the five-term Senator who broke down barriers last Friday when she accepted the role of President of the Upper House, expressed her shock over her latest accomplishment insisting she had never seen it coming. Speaking with The Royal Gazette immediately after her first session, the independent Senator said: "I have got to process it. It's really an honour. It's really humbling. I would not have thought it would be me. "Years ago, when I was asked to join the Senate, if people told me that this was in my future I would have called them crazy. At the end of the day it's not about me. It's about what is best for the community. I am willing to step in and do what I can for the community." Sen. Bassett and her husband Roderick, have been married for 27 years. Both retired, they have three sons and a granddaughter. She said she wasn't officially told she was in contention for the seat left vacant in September by former independent Senator Alf Oughton until immediately before Friday's Throne Speech. However her husband had heard rumours she might be asked, and encouraged her to take on the role. "He heard it might be me and he said, 'Take it and I will support you'. "I have always had his support throughout my career. That's a great thing. It's really important to me that my home environment is a peaceful environment." The pair first crossed paths when she began working at BF&M Insurance as a secretary. Mr. Bassett offered the future Senator a ride one day while she was walking in the rain, headed for a bus. Today they are happily married and while she takes up the mantle at the Senate he uses his accountancy skills as a consultant for small businesses. In the period between, Sen. Bassett has also seen professional success. From that initial start as a secretary, she used courses at the Technical College to advance her prospects. She retired from BF&M in 2004 as vice president of Life Insurance. In 2003, former Governor Sir John Vereker approached her with what she considered to be a surprising request. "I was asked by Governor Vereker to come up to Government House. I knew they were looking for an independent, but I thought they must have got the wrong person," she said admitting the task proposed was unlike any of the community work she had been involved with in the past. "I thought I was going to say, 'This is not my forte'. Then I thought, 'You know what? It's my opportunity to serve'. She hopes that all of her years in the insurance industry, where she was able to hone her problem-solving skills, will serve her well in her new role. A member of the Mount Zion AME Church, Sen. Bassett says that religion always guides her path, while running – she has completed two marathons – helps alleviate stress. She said she learned much from watching Sen. Oughton, the longest-serving Senate president with ten years under his belt, navigate the Upper House. She hopes the role will enable her to place greater community focus on education and seniors – two areas she feels desperately in need of address. "When you don't get emotionally involved, if someone is upset you can divorce yourself from that and you can deal with different people in your life," she said. "It means it will not determine how I react – I am sure that (the Senate) is going to test it in there. I used to watch Sen. Oughton and I really appreciate his strength. "I saw the compassion that he had and the objectivity he had. I didn't lean one way or the other. You need to be respectful to each other. "I think the world changes so quickly. Before the market thing in the US – who would have predicted that? Anything can happen. So we really need to come together as a community. “We need to look after our young people and make sure they are educated, prepared and not caught up in the latest fad. Mrs. Byrd was born in Leicester, Vt. on her grandparents farm on November 16, 1916, the daughter of Harry and Lotta (Memoe) Bissette. She was raised and attended local schools in Brandon and attended high school in the Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident of the area since 1939 she moved to Brattleboro from Brandon. Mrs. Byrd worked several years at the Estey Organ Company in Brattleboro. For 20 years she was employed as a secretary for William Cudworth at the Crosby Milling Co. also in Brattleblro. She then went to work for the U.V.M. Extension Service, Brattleboro office, retiring in 1982. In her retirement she worked as a church secretary of St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, Brattleboro, for five years. A woman of strong faith she was a communicant of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Brattleboro where she taught religious studies for several years. She was a member of the former Con Fraternity of Christian Mothers at St. Michael’s Church. Mrs. Byrd enjoyed sewing, nature, working in her flower and vegetable garn, loved animals and most importantly time spent with her family. On January 28, 1939 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Brandon, she was married to Charles A. Byrd. Mr. Byrd died in 1951. Survivors include one daughter, Elizabeth Lower of Richford; one grandson, Daniel Finnell and his wife Heidi (Aplin), three granddaughters, Colleen Hernandez of El Cajon, Calif., Erin Lower of Brattleboro, Jessica Lower of St. Albans; three great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was born in McComb, Mississippi, in 1942. She was a graduate of Baton Rouge High School, Class of 1960. She held many positions over the years, such as St. Aloysius Fair Chairman, and several administrative positions at Catholic High School. There was never a task, project, event, or situation she could not handle, and usually took charge. She could work with, coordinate, and generally get along with anyone in doing so. Her sole motivation for all of this was the support and protection of her most valued treasure: her two sons and her beloved husband. She was also an accomplished quilter, with many friends and family members having the great fortune of receiving one of her true works of art. She is preceded in death by her husband, Sam Bass III, father, Cedric D. Wilkinson, and mother, Ella D. Wilkinson. She is survived by her brother, Doug Wilkinson, two sons, Bryan and Jason, a grandson, Mason Bass, and a granddaughter Samantha Bass. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the memorial visitation at Rabenhorst East, 11000 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA, on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 4PM until 6PM. Born in Cohoes, she had lived their most of her life and was the daughter of the late John and Susanah Conners Hogan. She was the wife of the Paul Bessette. She celebrated her birthday March 23, 2009 when she became 100 years old. She had been a homemaker and former member of St. Joseph’s Church, Cohoes and a member of the St. Ann Society. She also was a member of the Catholic Daughters, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic War Veterans and was past president of the Albany County Catholich War Veterans Auxiliary. She loved spending time at her summer home in Saratoga. Betty moved to Latham in 1985 and had lived in Our Lady of Hope for several years. She was the sister of Eileen (Gene) Traver and the late Steven, John, James and Joseph Hogan, Marguerite LaVallee, Rose Hogan and Mary Stolar; sister-in-law of Loretta Hogan; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from Our Lady of Hope Chapel, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham. Born in Adams on Sept. 26, 1914, daughter of Louis and Roseanna Gamache Bessette, she moved to North Adams with her family when she was 6 and attended the former Notre Dame Elementary School. She was employed by the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown for 20 years, retiring in 1979. Before that, she worked at the former Berkshire Fine Spinning Co. for many years. Miss Bessette was a communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church. She leaves a nephew, Richard L. Lefebvre of North Adams, with whom she made her home, and several other nephews and nieces. FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lucille Theresa Bessette will be Thursday at 8:15 from AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME in North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 9 at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Mr. Bass was employed at Bohl Equipment as a sales representative until moving to Houston, Texas, in 1977. In 1998, he and his wife, Sue retired to live at the Continental Country Club in Florida. | 449 | The Burlington Free Press, April 21, 2011 Theresa Julia Bessette Bechtel (Picture included) ESSEX JUNCTION - Theresa Julia Bessette Bechtel, 84, of Essex Junction, died on Wednesday, April 20, 2011, in the Green Mountain Nursing Home in Colchester. She was born in Winooski on July 8, 1926, the younger daughter of Henry Bessette and Isabelle Barber Bessette. Theresa graduated from Winooski High School in 1944 and attended nursing school at St. Michael's College until she had to leave for medical reasons. She married Edward C. Bechtel of Reading, Pa. in 1946, and they moved to Essex Junction in 1950. After her five children started school, she began working at Abernathy's department store on Church Street where she became a department head and buyer. After Abernathy's closed, she worked at The Mayfair and then managed The Other Mayfair. The most important thing in Theresa's life was her family. Theresa was predeceased by her son, Charles Bechtel; and her sister, Rita Hammond. She is survived by her husband, Edward C. Bechtel; and children, Kathryn Converse and husband, David, Carol Hathaway and husband, Donald, Christina Gonillo and husband, Joe, Henry Bechtel and his wife, Sandy, and daughter-in-law, Randy-Kay Lavalley; seven grandchildren, Eric Hathaway, Kristin Peet, Joshua Gonillo, Sara Stark, Sunny Lyn Rushford, Ethan and Nate Bechtel; nine great-grandchildren; and nine nieces / nephews.
