A Vancouver, WA resident, he was born on Dec. 4, 1938 in Los Angeles, CA to Delbert and Susan Beatrice (Gregg) Bass. Norman served on the U.S.S. Franklin D. Roosevelt during his service in the Navy in the late '50's. He enjoyed woodworking, repairing and collecting clocks, walking, western movies, the Oregon Coast, and studying the Bible. Norman is survived by his wife, Jacqueline Sue Bass; children, John Wyatt Bass and Stephanie Bass, and Gregory Warren Bass; and grandchildren, Cole, Tristan, Shelby, and Samson Bass. Survivors also include his sisters, Mary D. Rosine, Sue A. Proffitt, and Betty L. Finnila; and brothers, Jimmie L., Donald F., Charles R., and Carl J. Bass. Elbe was born October 1, 1946, in Galveston, Texas to the union of Elbe and Juanita Bassett, Sr. He was a 1965 graduate of Central High School. He worked with the Texas Department of Transportation-Galveston Ferry for 20 years. Elbe is preceded in death by his first wife of 38 years, Linda C. Bassett, his son Bobby Bassett, and daughter, Yolanda Alexander, and his mother Juanita Bassett, and his grandparents Alex and Alzena Bassett who raised him and is also known as his parents. Elbe also proceeds in death his aunt/sister Leola Pines and Rose Wilson. He is survived by his father Elbe Bassett, Sr., second wife Delores Walters Bassett, son Elbe Bassett, III, (Bessie), daughters, Juanita Bassett, & Michelle Bassett Hollins, (David), and Katrina & Shareba Bassett, and step-sons, Freddie Garnett, and Authur Walters. He is also survived by his devoted uncle Leon Bassett, brother, Alex Bassett, and cousin Vera Pines, 15 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He is survived by his wife, Theresa (LaRose) Bessette of Aiken; four sons, Bernard J. Bessette of Aiken, Ronald A. Bessette of Lewiston, Maine, Dennis M. Bessette of West Burke, Vt., and Jeffrey P. Bessette of Easley; a daughter, Carol A. Zuccaro of St. Johnsbury, Vt.; a brother; Leopold Bessette of Eureka, Calif.; and two sisters, Louise Ivey and Rita Miller, both of California. Mr. Bessette is also survived by 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Mr. Bessette is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Wilfred and Antonia "Beauregard" Bessette, as well as a son, Reginald A. Bessette. He was born in Brownington, Vt., and lived in St. Johnsbury before moving to Aiken in 2001. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honored with a Silver Star and Purple Heart for injuries received in battle. He retired after 25 years of being a truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Company. Mr. Bessette was a communicant of St. Mary Help of Christians Church and a former communicant of St. John's Church in St. Johnsbury. A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Bessette will be celebrated on Wednesday July 28, 2004, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Church. Interment will take place in Mt. She was born in Newton Grove, NC, daughter of the late James Walton Bass and Mary Emma Honeycutt Bass. After high school, Marjorie graduated from the National School of Commerce. She worked with the civil service for five years at Fort Bragg, NC. There she met her future husband, David L. Goforth, Sr., who was serving in the U.S. Army at Post Headquarters Medical Detachment, Ft. Bragg, NC. Marjorie and David were married in 1946. They moved to Greensboro that year and established Arrow Exterminators, Inc. which is still in business today. Marjorie was a very active member of her church, West Market Street United Methodist Church, well into her 90's. She was a member and past President of the Morris Sunday School class. Marjorie enjoyed many hobbies and interests over her 99-plus years. Golf was at the top of her list. She was a member of Starmount Country Club's Women's Golf Assoc., Piedmont Women's Golf Assoc., and NC Senior Women's Golf Assoc. Marjorie was also a member of the Greensboro Lady Lions Club, where she was a past President, The Open Gate Garden Club, The Greensboro Lecture League, The Greensboro History Museum, and the Guilford Chapter 141 Order of the Eastern Star. Marjorie was predeceased in death by her husband, David L. Goforth, Sr., her son, David L. Goforth, Jr., brothers, Maxton Honeycutt Bass, Walton Xyvon Bass, and sisters, Ursula Bass Baggett, and Dezree Miller Bass. | 483 | The Seacoast Online, May 5, 2010 Dorothy Richards Morphew (Picture included) WOODSTOCK, Ga. - Dorothy Richards Morphew, 91, of Englewood, Fla., and Cape Neddick, Maine, ascended from an angel on Earth to an angel in heaven, as she passed away peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by caregivers and family at the home of her son, Dana Bassett, just before sunrise Tuesday, April 13, 2010. Dorothy was born Aug. 4, 1918, in Cambridge, Mass., to George R. Richards (who was killed in battle during World War I) and her loving mother and best friend, Evangeline Booth Richards, both originally of Newfoundland, Canada. Dorothy was a graduate of the Boston Institute of Art and served with great honor (in World War II) as a U.S. Navy WAVE from 1944 to 1946. She then worked as a graphic artist and throughout her life, and taught various art classes - including painting, pottery, and ceramics. She also owned and ran several retail art businesses. In 1963, Dorothy became a licensed real estate broker and owned and operated Bassett Real Estate Company for the next 15 years, which grew to two offices and six employees. She was listed in the Marquis Who's Who of American Women for "demonstrating outstanding achievement ...; and contributing to the betterment of contemporary society." She was a member of the Rockingham County Board of Realtors; lifetime member of the U.S. Navy WAVES National, Maine Unit 41; the American Legion Auxiliary; the Englewood (Fla.) Art Center, the United States Golf Association, the Englewood (Fla.); and the United Methodist Church and the First Parish Congregational Church of York, Maine. She was an accomplished tennis player while in the Navy, and was still playing golf and bowling at age 91. She was an avid reader, reading a dozen books a week, always with a cup of hot British tea by her side. She was a prolific and talented letter writer and artist - from creating crafts and pottery to magnificent paintings. Dorothy lived a life of faith and giving, always selfless and caring for others, even in her final days. Her concern was never for herself, but always for others. She leaves her family and friends with fond memories and an example of how to live with great dignity and high morals and faith; helping others and giving, always with love and grace. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and lifelong friend of 20 years, Joseph W. Morphew (who served valiantly in the U.S. Navy during World War II), who passed away in 2002; and former husband of 26 years, Joseph A. Bassett (who served valiantly in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II), who passed away in 1999. She was also predeceased by brothers Harold and John Richards. Surviving brothers are William Richards, of Beverly, Mass., and Gordon Richards, of Ryegate, Mont. She will forever be an angel and inspiration to her surviving sons, Jon Bassett, of Wells, Maine, Marc Bassett, of Carbondale, Colo., and Dana Bassett, of Woodstock, Ga.; and grandchildren, Joseph Bassett, of New Hampshire, Sara Bassett, of New Hampshire, Jeremiah Bassett, of Connecticut , Natalie Bassett, of Colorado, Tyler Bassett, of Georgia, and Chase Bassett, of Georgia; cousin Jeanne; and Aunt Kay Richards, 97, of St. John's, Newfoundland; many other relatives in Newfoundland; and more than 30 nieces and nephews in the United States.
