| 45751 | The Daytona Beach News-Journal, 1 Jun 2008 Dorothea Bassett Schall Memorial service for Dorothea Bassett Schall, 95, Holly Hill, will be held 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, 2008, at Central Baptist Church, 142 Fairview Ave. with Pastors Jim Smith and Chuck McKeown officiating. Dorothea left this world for God's Kingdom May 30, 2008. She was born in Brooklyn, New York, May 15, 1913, and grew up in Rockland County, New York. It was there that she met and married John Schall where they opened a fruit and vegetable market. Due to her husband's ill health, the family came to Florida during the winter months and finally moved permanently to the Daytona Beach area in 1953. Dorothea was a loving and dedicated wife and mother, becoming the stabilizing force and "Rock of Gibraltar" for her family, particularly when her husband became totally disabled. She worked in many of the finest restaurants in the area eventually opening their own restaurant, Dot & John's Marigold House which was located at the current site of the Ocean Walk Complex. During this time, she also worked for over 20 years for the Daytona Beach Police and Volusia County Sheriff's Departments as the school crossing guard for North Ridgewood Elementary School and St. Paul's Catholic School. She accompanied many school safety patrols to Washington D.C. and other areas. Dot loved flowers and traveling with her family, and with the P.O.R.T. and Three Score travel groups. She and her husband started Channel 32 CB Club as "The Alaskan & Alaskan Lady". They enjoyed many outings with them. Dorothea loved Jesus and was active in Central Baptist Church, Daytona Beach, and United Brethren Church, Holly Hill. She is predeceased by her husband, John Schall, Sr.; grandson, Jamie Esposito; and brother, Harry Bassett. She is survived by four children; son, John Jr. (Cleo) their children, Ronald, Troy and Nick Schall, Broadway, N.C., Barbara Courgh, Ohio, and Ricky Shiprow, North Carolina; daughter, Elaine Still and her children, Deborah Bell, Martin and Michael Still, Jacksonville, Fla.; daughter, Nancy Jones (Bill), South Daytona, and Nancy's children, Joseph Smith, Alabama, and Dan Smith, Holly Hill; plus seven stepchildren; daughter, Diana Allen along with her, selected by love, children, John Moore, Holly Hill, and Desie Damaso, Ormond Beach. She also had a guardian angel, Willis Gould. She has over 30 plus great-grandchildren and many great-great-grandchildren. All of her children have expressed the sentiment that if everyone had a mother like theirs this world would be a better place. There will be a "Celebration of Life" at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Central Baptist Church Camp or United Brethren Youth Ministry. | 45771 | The Daytona Beach News-Journal, Florida, Sunday, 31 May 2026 H. Eugene (Gene) Bass Gene Bass, 87, was born on May 15, 1938. He passed away on April 28, 2026. He grew up on a farm in Lake Monroe, Florida, where he developed a strong work ethic and a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors. Those early experiences shaped the values he carried throughout his life- hard work, perseverance and a love for his family. Along with his two brothers, Gene was a partner in the local foodservice company Bass & Swaggerty. The family business served the Central Florida community for over 50 years. In the late 1990's, the company sold to Sara Lee Corporation, giving him the opportunity to live out his life doing all the things he loved most. Gene was truly a man of many talents and passions. He was an accomplished sea captain and found great joy on the water. He also flew his own twin engine airplanes and had a lifelong love of aviation. He loved traveling the world, always seeking out new experiences and adventures. He travelled to Sturgis, South Dakota many times as he really enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson throughout the Black Hills. He also spent several days each week, every summer for almost 20 years fishing at Walkers Cay in the Bahamas. Survivors include his wife Annette, who he truly loved. Also, his children David (Lisa), Steven (Erin) and his daughter Ashley. He was also very close to his two stepchildren Todd and Tracy Shirah. Others include his 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandson and that devoted dog, Max. Per Gene's request, there will be no service. The family gathered privately for a Celebration of Life. He will be truly missed by all. | Bass, H. Eugene (I18)

| 45778 | The death record for Louis Suprenant Bessette lists the names of his parents. Pawtucket Times Thursday, July 12, 1917 Louis S. Bessette Long Resident, Dead Conducted Grocery Business Here for 32 Years Was a Gold Prospector Louis Surprenant Bessette, one of the oldest of French-Canadian citizens in this city and a prominent grocery and marketman here for the past 32 years died at his home, 362 Fountain Street, early yesterday morning. Illness was incident to old age. Mr. Bessette was 79 years of age. He was born in St. Hubert, Canada on June 29, 1838. During the period when discoveries of gold were numerous in the West in 1849, Mr. Bessette, then a mere youth, started from this house in Canada to California. He started on his journey by boat, arriving first in Colorado. During that year he finally reached San Francisco, where he remained for a few years. Returning to Canada, he travelled extensively over the Rockies and the Northwest. In Canada again, he resumed his friendship with former friends and in 1867 he was married. He came to this city about 33 years ago and within a year had started a lucrative grocery business. He conducted his store in various parts of the city, but for many years past he has been located in the Pleasant View section. A chain of stores located throughout the Blackstone Valley, at present are conducted by his son, Napoleon E. Bessette, while other sons own stores in the Pleasant View district. Last April, Mr. and Mrs. Bessette, who survives him, observed their golden wedding anniversary. At that time he was in excellent health, although he retired from active business a few years ago, and enjoyed the celebration fully as much as anyone present. He took sick soon afterward, however, and death was expected by his family. He was a member of the Pawtucket branch of the Catholic Knights of America, and a devout communicant of the Church of Our Lady of Consolation. He is survived by a wife, Mrs. Mary Bessette, and eight sons and daughters. They are Mrs. Mary Graveline, Louis Bessette Jr., Emil Bessette, Miss Rosa Bessette, Miss Emma Bessette, Alfred G. Bessette, George H. Bessette and Napoleon E. Bessette. He is also survived by several grandchildren. The funeral will be held from his late home tomorrow morning. A solemn high mass will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Consolation and burial will be in Notre Dame Cemetery. 1900 Federal Census of Pawtucket, Providence County, Rhode Island (June 15, 1900) Louis Bessette - 59 - Male - Dec 1841 - CF-CF-CF - Head - Grocer Armine - 50 - Female - Dec 1843 - CF-CF-CF - Wife Rose - 25 - Female - Jun 1874 - CF-CF-CF - Daughter - Dressmaker Emil - 24 - Male - Jul 1875 - CF-CF-CF - Son - Salesman Grocer Emma - 23 - Female - Aug 1876 - CF-CF-CF - Daughter - Housekeeper Frederick - 22 - Male - Dec 1877 - CF-CF-CF - Son - Salesman Grocer George - 21 - Male - Jan 1879 - CF-CF-CF - Son - Salesman Grocer Napolean - 19 - Male - Sep 1880 - CF-CF-CF - Son - At School and one Boarder (Living at 362 Fountain Street) (Married 32 years, 8 children, 8 living) 1910 Federal Census of Pawtucket, Providence County, Rhode Island (April 28, 1910) Louis Suprenant - 72 - Male - CF-CF-CF - Head - Salesman Grocery Store Armeny - 66 - Female - CF-CF-CF - Wife Roseana - 38 - Female - CF-CF-CF - Daughter - Dressmaker at home Rose Emma - 32 - Female - CF-CF-CF - Daughter Napoleon E. - 28 - Male - CF-CF-CF - Son - Retailer Grocery Store (Living at 362 Fountain Street) (Married 43 years, 9 children, 8 living) | Bessette, Louis Suprenant (I3)

| 45788 | The Delaware County Daily Times, Tuesday, September 21, 2010 Elizabeth "Sis" Bassett, 96, Swarthmore Resident Elizabeth "Sis" Bassett, 96, of Swarthmore, died Sept. 18 at White Horse Village in the Gradyville section of Edgmont. A graduate of the Agnes Irwin School in Philadelphia, she attended Keystone Business School. She worked for the Red Cross before spending 37 years as the secretary for the Swarthmore Collge athletic department. She was a lifelong member of the Swarthmore Presbyterian Church. Survivors: Niece, nephews, grandnephews. Service: Private. Burial: Private. Contributions: American Red Cross and Swarthmore Presbyterian Church, 727 Harvard Ave., Swarthmore, PA 19081. Arrangements: J. Nelson Rigby Funeral Home, Media. Soon to Celebrate Seventy-five Years as Member of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church Elizabeth Bassett is daughter of landowner who gave original grounds for church Elizabeth Bassett is the third generation of five that have been active members of Swarthmore Presbyterian Church (SPC). She was confirmed at SPC in April 1928, and 74 years later is still a devoted attendee and member of SPC's Women's Association. She lived in Swarthmore in the same house in which she was born for more than 70 years until recently moving to Whitehorse Village. Holding the church dear to her heart, Elizabeth states, "Swarthmore Presbyterian Church is my home". Frederick M. Simons, Elizabeth's grandfather, gave the original land on which the church was built in 1895. He was one of 24 charter members and ultimately became an elder. Her parents were also members and had three children whom are all active participants at the church today. Elizabeth's siblings, Edward M. Bassett Jr. and Kathryn Bassett were both trustees. Elizabeth's nephew, William D. Bassett, is a present member of the Memorial & Gifts Committee, and his wife Adele is a member of the Worship Committee. Elizabeth's grandnephew, Graham W. Bassett, is the fifth generation of Bassetts to attend SPC. He is a senior at the Shipley School and is active in the church's summer work program. Elizabeth notes that gradual increase in membership and the active involvement of younger generations as some of the most notable changes of SPC since she first attended. Many renovations have taken place throughout the years as well, including the new fellowship hall and kitchen, Tyson Courtyard, McQuade Library, and McCahan Hall. The continuing value and genuine quality of the ministry today is one of the many key incentives that persuades Elizabeth to make the 25-minute journey to church every Sunday. Throughout her involvement at SPC, she has made many friends, and more than 38 SPC members live in her retirement community. Elizabeth's bright and warm personality continues to bring smiles to SPC congregants. The church has been an immensely positive influence in her life, much in part due to the perpetual quality of the services, ministry, and membership. Elizabeth fondly states, "I will be 89 years old in April 2003 and hope to celebrate (the Lord willing!) my 75 years as a member!" Encyclopedia of Pennsylvania Biography, Volume XXV Lewis Historical Publishing Company, Inc. 1945 Bassett, Edward Morris - Business Leader ......Edward M. | 45792 | The Denver Post, Colorado, Sunday, August 19, 2018 Bob Bass, Denver?s first ABA coadh, dies at 89 SAN ANTONIO Bob Bass, the original coach of the Denver Rockets of the American Basketball Association, has died. He was 89. Bass coached the team that eventually became the Nuggets in its first two seasons, 1967-68 and 1968-69. He directed the inaugural Rockets team to a 45-33 record, good for third place in the ABA's Western Division. Bass' second Rockets team went 44-34. Those teams were led by guard Larry Jones, who averaged 28.4 points per game in that second season, and also included Byron Beck, from the University of Denver, and Lonnie Wright, from Colorado State. Bass also was a former San Antonio and Charlotte general manager who was an integral part of the front office for most of the Spurs' first 20 years in South Texas. Bass' death was confirmed by the Spurs on Saturday in a statement from coach Gregg Popovich. The San Antonio Express-News reported that Bass died Friday at home in San Antonio after a series of strokes. "Over the course of four decades, Bob Bass had a huge impact in both the ABA and NBA," Popovich said in a statement released by the team. "BB was a true pioneer in the world of professional basketball. His knowledge, passion and dedication to the game were inspiring. We send our condolences to the entire Bass family." After getting hired as coach during the Spurs' second season in San Antonio in 1974-75, Bass joined the front office as general manager when the club moved from the ABA to the NBA in 1976. The two-time NBA executive of the year spent 20 seasons with the Spurs in various roles -- returning three times as coach -- before going to Charlotte as the GM in 1994. He spent nine seasons with the Hornets. Bass coached his alma mater of Oklahoma Baptist from 1952-67, first joined the ABA as coach of the Rockets in 1967. He went back to college at Texas Tech from 1969-71, then back to the ABA with the Floridians in 1971-72 and the Memphis Tams in 1973-74 before landing with the Spurs. Bass had a 311-300 career regular-season coaching record in the ABA and NBA. The Oklahomian, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Monday, August 20, 2018 OBU, Spurs Legend Bob Bass died at 89 Bob Bass was a prominent figure in the history of two NBA franchises. But Bass was a legend at Oklahoma Baptist University. Bass, 89, died Friday night at his home in San Antonio, where he had was an iconic general manager of the Spurs from 1974-94. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich issued a statement through the Spurs that said, "Over the course of four decades, Bob Bass had a huge impact in both the ABA and the NBA. BB was a true pioneer in the world of professional basketball. His knowledge, passion and dedication to the game were inspiring. We send our condolences to the entire Bass family." But before the NBA, Bass was building quite the legacy in Shawnee. A graduate of Tulsa Rogers High School, Bass went to Oklahoma Baptist and captained the Bison three straight years in the early 1950s. He soon became the OBU basketball and baseball coach, and Bass led the Bison to perhaps the greatest success ever by an Oklahoma program in the small-college ranks. Bass' OBU teams made three straight NAIA title games, 1965-67, back when the NAIA was loaded with great teams. The 1966 Bison won the NAIA championship. "Bob Bass is the man who started the Bison on the road to success in men's basketball," John Parrish, who was OBU's sports information director in those glory years, said in a release by the school. "Bob Bass was a developer of great teams and great players and devoted much of his life to improving the game of basketball." Bass was head basketball coach at OBU for 15 years, with a record of 275-146. Only Doug Tolin coached the Bison to more wins, and Tolin and Bass are the only OBU coaches to produce national-title teams. Bass was inducted into the OBU Athletics Hall of Fame in 1971 and into the Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. "Coach Bass was responsible for putting Bison basketball on the map," said OBU athletic director Robert Davenport. "His coaching and leadership goes well beyond Bison Hill. He will be missed." Bass left OBU after the 1967 NAIA Tournament to take the Denver Rockets job of the fledgling American Basketball Association. Bass coached two years with the Rockets (who became the current Nuggets) before taking the Texas Tech job. Bass left Lubbock midway through his first year to return to the ABA and coach the Miami Floridians. After a year-and-a-half, Bass moved on to coach the ABA's Memphis Tams for a season. But in 1974, Bass was hired by the Spurs as general manager, and he found a home. Bass had three stints as coach or interim coach, going 83-57 in the ABA and 60-51 in the NBA, but his biggest mark was in the front office. Bass established the Spurs' winning culture. The Spurs made the playoffs 17 times in Bass' 20 years as general manager. Among his acquisitions: George Gervin, David Robinson, Sean Elliott, Avery Johnson, John Lucas and Alvin Robertson. In 1994, Bass became GM of the Charlotte Hornets, who eventually moved to New Orleans. The Hornets never had a losing season in the seven years Bass ran the team. Bass twice was named NBA Executive of the Year, once each with the Spurs and Hornets. | Bass, Robert Eugene (I35457)

He was fond of telling stories of his youthful summers spent with his boyhood pals and twin brother, Bob, prowling the Bonneville Golf Course, or with his family fishing the Weber River, or at a Boy Scout camp that was once called "Tracy Wigwam" in his beloved Millcreek Canyon. He was an Eagle Scout. Richard graduated from East High School and later went on to graduate from the University of Utah and become a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He was proud to have served an LDS mission to Liverpool, England; he crossed the Atlantic aboard both Queen Mary and United States. In March of 1961, Richard married the love of his life, Elizabeth Frantz. They went on to lead a vigorous and interesting life as parents of three children, business owners, world travelers, and lifelong friends. Richard's career began in the mortgage banking industry, but for most of his business life he was the co- owner and operator of Utah Roses, a thriving commercial greenhouse operation, and a business leader. He was nationally recognized as an innovator in floricultural production practices, with many of his fundamentals still in use today. He was an avid golfer, a skillful fisherman, and loved to be out on the lake in his boat with his family. Charles Richard Wright passed away on December 10th, 2013 after a lingering illness.
