Bassett was born in Buffalo township, Ogle county, Ill., May 1, 1857 and died at home in Cheyenne Wells, Colo., Monday, Jan. 6, 1913, his death being due to apoplexy. He was married to Susan A. Rohrer, a daughter of Henry Rohrer of Polo, at Pine Creek, Ill., January 20, 1886. To this union were born six children, Minnie E., Anna H. Paulson, Lloyd, Mildred A., Lucy M., and Ada M., who, with the wife and mother survive him. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett moved to Springfield, Neb., in February, 1886, where they lived until they moved to Cheyenne Wells, Colo., about six years ago. | 50152 | Tri-County Obituaries, (handwritten on article May 8, 1926) Mrs. Chauncey Hamm Mrs. Mertie Bassett Hamm, widow of Chauncey Hamm, late of 100 West avenue, Elmira died this morning at 7 o?clock at the home of her stepsister, Mrs. Lewis K. Smith at Waverly. Mrs. Hamm is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Roselle of Elmira, a sister, Mrs. Alonzo Smith of Lanesboro, Pa.; a step-sister Mrs. Lewis K. Smith of Waverly, a brother, Warren Bassett of Olean. A prayer service will be held at the home of Mrs. Lewis K. Smith, 430 Pennsylvania avenue, Waverly, Monday at 10 a.m. The funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Monday in the Wilson undertaking rooms in Elmira. The Rev. A.M. Laird will officiate. | 50153 | Tri-County Press, Polo, Illinois, Thursday, 11 September 1913 Death Of Martin Bassett Martin F. Bassett, who died at his home Tuesday morning, September 9, 1913, was born November 23rd 1826 at Bovina, Delaware Co. N.Y. He was the son of Francis and Mary Cushing Bassett and was the fifth of a family of eight and the last to pass away. In 1836 the family moved to Branch Co., Michigan, where he lived until early manhood. For a few years he was in business in Buffalo, N.Y., but on account of his health came to Illinois in 1851 and soon after bought land and engaged in farming. February 1st, 1855 he was united in marriage with Emma L. Wamsley who passed away but fifteen days ago. They lived together on the farm until the fall of 1869 when they moved to the home in which they both passed away, having lived together over fifty-eight years. In 1857 he united with the Methodist church in which he was a devoted worker to the time of his death, serving on the official board for years, also as class leader and worker in the Sunday school. He was one of those of whom it could be truthfully said, ?He walked with God.? He was conscientious to a fault. In every act of his life he stopped to consider, ?is this right?, and it can be truly said of him, ?Blessed are the death that die in the Lord.? | 50154 | Tri-County Press, Polo, Illinois, Thursday, 24 October 1918 Mrs. Susie Bassett Killed in Denver The community was immeasurably shocked last Thursday to hear that Mrs. Susie Bassett had been almost instantly killed in Denver. It seems that on Wednesday afternoon she was crossing the street at Fourteenth street and Tremont Place and while dodging one automobile she stepped directly in the path of another, which knocked her to the pavement and dragged her some distance. She was taken to the county hospital where she died four hours later. Susan Amelia Rohrer was born June 18, 1863, at Polo, Illinois. On January 20, 1886, she was united in marriage to Ira F. Bassett. They immediately moved to Springfield, Nebraska, where they resided until 1907, when the moved to Colorado. Taking over a relinquishment five miles northwest of Cheyenne Wells, they made that their home until the death of Mr. Bassett, which occurred January 6, 1912, at which time she moved to Cheyenne Wells. In order that her children might have larger opportunities, she moved to Denver in the early part of the summer, where her oldest daughter, Miss Minnie Bassett, was a student nurse in St. Joseph?s hospital. She is survived by six children, four sisters and two brothers. One of the sisters, Mrs. C.C. Miller of Carthage, Mo., came in time to be with the bereaved children at the funeral. The children are Miss Minnie Bassett, Mrs. Annie Paulson, Floyd, the only boy, Mildred, Lucy and Adah. The funeral was held from the local Methodist church Sunday, Sept. 22, the Rev. A.R. Dennis delivering the sermon. Many sorrowing friends sent beautiful floral tributes both from Denver and here, in remembrance and sympathy. The body was laid to rest in Cheyenne Wells cemetery. | 50155 | Tri-County Press, Polo, Illinois, Thursday, 27 Jul 1911 Death of Mrs. Bassett On Wednesday, July 19, 1911 at her home in Rockford occurred the death of Mrs. Ellen Bassett, until a few years ago, a resident of Polo. Mrs. Bassett had been in poor health since early in the spring but was taken with gastritis on Friday preceding her death and all that could be done for her was in vain for she ailed until death came to release her on Wednesday evening. Mrs. Bassett leaves to mourn for her, a daughter, Miss Mary, with whom she lived and four sons, Edwin of Rockford and Adelbert, Finch and Norton who reside in the West. Mr. Bassett preceded his wife in death several years ago. The deceased spent most of her life in the vicinity of Polo where she was known as a good woman and a kind neighbor, one who loved her home and spent most of her time there. She was married when seventeen years of age to Peter bassett and they at once established their home on what is now the Randall farm, southeast of Polo, occupied by Robert Marteny. Mr. Bassett owned the farm for many years and there the family was reared. After Mr. Bassett?s death about seventeen years ago, Mrs. Bassett and daughter moved to Polo where the purchased ah home and resided until two years ago when they went to Rockford. A short service was held at the home in Rockford, Saturday morning. Dr. Van Horne officiating. The remains accompanied by Miss Mary Bassett, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Bassett and two sons of Rockford and Miss Mary Northey of Shannon, were brought to Polo on the noon train. They were met by a number of sympathizing Polo friends who looked for the last time on the face of the departed one and then the party proceeded to Fairmount cemetery where Dr. J.H. Bassett Dead Ogle County Pioneer Died at Home of Daughter in Rockford Will be Buried in Polo Mrs. Ella Wolcott Bassett died at 1 o?clock this morning at the home of her daughter, Miss Mary Bassett, 783 North Second Street. Mrs. Bassett was born in Roxbury, N.Y. in 1836 and was one of a family of pioneers who settled in Ogle County. Her husband was Peter N. Bassett, a pioneer who died fifteen years ago at Polo. Two years ago Mrs. Bassett came to live with her daughter in Rockford. While in Polo she was a member of the Methodist Church of that place and on coming to Rockford, she identified herself with the Centennial M.E. Church. She is survived by five children: Mary Bassett, at home; A.E. Bassett, Waterloo, Neb.; J.F. Bassett, Cheyenne Wells, Col.; Norton W. Bassett, Topeka, and Edwin Bassett, 328 Kent Street, Rockford. Reed, as those who knew her best were used to lacc her died at the home of her daughter Mrs. John Reed in Springville, Ia., last Thursday night. She was born in Andes, Delaware county, New York, June 11th, 1921, so was over 90 years of age. She was the second of a family of eight, of which family, M.F. Bassett of Polo is the only one now living. Her father moved with his family from New York to Coldwater, Mich., in 1836, where in 1842, Mrs. Reed was married to Nathaniel Woodard, who died in 1851, leaving ?Aunt? Jane a young widow with two children, Augusta,, now Mrs. Jhon Reed, and Adelbert, who died in 1903. She came back to Illinois in 1887 and has made her home until the last few years at the home of Mr. and Mrs. M.F. Bassett. During this time she was married a second time Lyman Reed of Polo, Ill., who lived but a few years after their marriage, when she again made her home with the Bassetts. She made her home the last few years with her daughters, Mrs. Reed in Springville, Ia., where she died. Beside her daughter and her brother, M.F. Bassett, she leaves nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and hosts of friends to call her memory blessed. To know her was to love her. She was one of those cheery, helpful persons whom everybody love4d and wanted. Of her it can be truthfully said: ?Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord, for they rest from their labors, and their works do follow them.? Her grandsons and one of her great grandsons were the pall-bearers who carried her to her last resting place. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheila Ann Bassett; brothers, Kenzo Kusuyama, Bob Kuis and Fred, Reginald, Gerald and George Wallace Johnson; and sisters, Hanaka Bizins, Abigail Peterson, Shirley Brown, Vivian King and Marie Hollis. She was born to George Bass and Elizabeth Cunningham on August 19, 1953. Karen was preceded in death by both parents as well as her brother Mark Bass. She is survived by her husband Billy Gordon; daughter Tamara Thomas; siblings Tanya Shelton, Anthony Bass, Rachel Bass, Victor Bass, Zachary Collier, Robert Carter, Lewis Carter, Kim Carter, Craig Carter, and Nina; and grandchildren Tavon Thomas and Terron Thomas; as well as many nieces and nephews. Linda was born Oct. 8, 1943, in Glennville, Ga., to the late Jo Henry Blocker and Ora Bell Lynn Blocker. She was a mortgage executive for Watson Mortgage and was a member of St. Marys Methodist Church. She loved and supported the Humane Society and never met a stray that she didn't love. She was a loving wife, mom, meema and friend. Linda is survived by her husband, Lawton "Gene" Bassett of Kingsland, Ga.; daughters, Sabrina Lee (Tim Shilling) of Jacksonville, Fla., Stephanie Carter of Jacksonville, Fla., and April Tucker (Richie) of Tifton, Ga.; son, Lawton E. Bassett III (Alisha) of Tifton, Ga.; and grandchildren, Tiffany Shilling, Erica Gann (Mason), Kaitlin Tucker (Adam Spurlin), Le Bassett IV (Miranda) and Annslee Bassett. Numerous cousins also survive. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son-in-law, Mike Carter. Services will be Thursday Aug. 29, 2024, at St. Marys Methodist Church with visitation at 10 a.m. and funeral service at 11 a.m. Pastor Roy White will officiate. | 50178 | Tribune Star, Indiana, 21 February 2007 Mark Lee Bass Mark Lee Bass, 53, of Brazil died unexpectedly Tuesday Feb. 20, 2007, in the emergency room of Regional Hospital. He was born Aug. 14, 1953, in Brazil the son of Theodore Mark Bass, Jr. and Iris "Jean" Hyde Bass. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1972. June 4, 1977, he married Rebecca Kathleen Porter on the front lawn of their home. As a young man he worked for Romas Farms and then Tech. Corp. He later worked for CBS until the plant closed. He was the supervisor in the work shop at the Clay County Learning Center for more than 19 years. He found his true calling working at the center and was an important part of many of the client's lives at the center. He later worked as custodian at Northview High School before health issue became too difficult. He began dialysis treatments in Dec. of 2006. Mark and Kathy were foster parents for over 25 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking. Mark was first and foremost a family man. On Sept. 20, 2006, he became Daddy to two sons Larry Dane Bass age 5 and Clint Theodore Bass age 2. On April 10, 1977, Easter Sunday, he was baptized into the Church of Christ where he served as trustee and assistant treasurer. Survivors include his wife Kathy Bass; sons, Larry Bass, Clint Bass and Joe Zimmerman; his mother, Iris Jean Bass of Center Point; one brother, and sister in law, Dane and Melissa Bass of Clay City; two nephews, Ryan Bass and wife Janice of Rosedale, and Joe Bass of Clay City; one niece, Meghan Bass of Clay City; one great-niece, Emma Bass; step-great-niece Maddison Wycoff of Rosedale; uncle, Bert Hyde and wife Margaret of Brazil; two aunts, Bertha Brashears and Leona Hyde both of Seelyville; three brothers-in-law, Jim Porter and wife Helen of Plainfield, Harry Porter and wife Ann of Greencastle, and David Porter and wife Luella of Chandler; three sisters-in-law, Mary Burk and husband Fred, Jr. of Seelyville, Shirley Lawson and husband Donald Ray of Brazil, and Jean Cox and husband Wayne of Plainfield; many nieces, nephews and extended family. | 50179 | Tributes, October 24, 2010 Lester E. Bassett Lester E. Bassett, 88, of Minocqua, Wisconsin gently passed away at his home in the midst of his devoted family on October 24, 2010. Les was born on September 15, 1922, in Woodruff, Wisconsin, to Alice Hill Bassett and Clarence Bassett. Les graduated from Minocqua High School and shortly thereafter entered military service, serving for the duration of World War II in the United States Army in the Pacific theater, including Saipan and Okinawa. After the war, Les left the Army and returned to Minocqua where he married Jean Ann Paquette in 1947, with Father Mayou of St. Patrick?s Catholic Church officiating. After his marriage he and his father Clarence and several of his brothers built and operated Bassett Marine, which was located at the Northeast corner of the Minocqua Bridge. A few years later Les began employment at the Minocqua Lumber Company, where he worked until his retirement in 1984. During his employment at the Minocqua Lumber Company Les began as a laborer and eventually rose to become Secretary of the corporation. During his younger years Les was elected to the Town Board of Minocqua and to the School Board of the Joint Elementary School district No. 1, serving as Treasurer in the latter organization. He also served as commander of the Oneida County Council of the American Legion, the president of the Land O? Lakes Building Materials Association and the treasurer of the Minocqua Lions Club. He was named Outstanding Young Man of 1958 by the Minocqua Jaycees. In later years Les pursued his hobby of woodworking, producing many finely crafted pieces treasured by his family and friends. Throughout most of his life, in addition to woodworking, Les loved golf and deer hunting, and inculcated a love for the beauty of the Northwoods outdoors in his children. Nancy was educated in Attleboro schools and was an Attleboro resident her entire life. She worked as a shipping clerk for the former L.G. Balfour Company for fourteen years. She enjoyed playing BINGO, and spending time with her family and grandchildren. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II as an X-Ray Technician. William worked for North American Manufacturing in Cuyahoga Heights and was in charge of receiving on the dock. He was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church and operated the campground at Beulah Beach. He enjoyed wood carving and bicycling. . He is survived by his son, Larry Bassett of Mogadore; his daughter, Jacqueline Moravcik of Conneaut Lake, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Virginia in 2011; and sons, Donald and Douglas. He was the husband of 29 years, to Lorraine (Brothers) Bessette and the late Patricia (Schmitt) Bessette. Born in New Bedford, son of the late Lionel J. Bessette and Aurore (Arsenault) Charles, he was a lifelong resident of the city. Bob served in the U.S.Navy during the Vietnam War and then joined the Army where he served for 22 years retiring as a Staff Sergeant. A self-employed carpenter he was the owner operator of Bob Bessette Builders. He was an active member of the New Bedford Moses Lodge #914 since 2009 where he served as a Governor, Treasurer and Chaplain. He was also a member of the Sixth Bristol Club and enjoyed woodworking. He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Lori J. Merolla and her companion Kenneth Reno of Assonet, Emile Rego and her husband Bruce of New Bedford and Lynn A. Bessette of New Bedford; a son, Michael R. A Scott man was fatally injured Dec. 2 when his vehicle left the road, hit several signs and then overturned in Pulaski County, according to a crash reported released Wednesday. Theodore Bessette Jr., 52, was driving a 2002 Infiniti south on Arkansas 161 at 12:47 p.m. near Toltec Road when the crash occurred, the report said. Bessette was taken to Baptist Health in Little Rock and was pronounced dead on Dec. 5. A Lepanto woman died Thursday after her 2011 Ford Focus left the road, hit a ditch and overturned in Poinsett County, according to a crash report. Sheri Elrod Foster, 48, was driving south on Arkansas 140 at 12:45 a.m. when the vehicle left the road. Foster was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center and later pronounced dead. Ron was born and raised in Elmsford, NY, and graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School. Ron was an accomplished singer, songwriter, musician, and showman from the age of 4. Most known as the lead singer of an oldies group, The Crests (Sixteen Candles was a well known hit) after Johnny Maestro. His renditions were unforgettable. Ron's love for music took him all over the country for many years singing and performing for countless audiences until he retired from the road and opened up his own business, Buggies Pest Control in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Although he retired from the road, Ron still sang for local venues and even recorded one last album, "Off The Road," shortly after being diagnosed with cancer. He was survived by his two daughters, Laureen Bassett -28- of Wappingers Falls, NY and fiancé Mark Frisenda, and Ashley Bassett -26- of Cold Spring, NY, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Ron has chosen to donate his body to science and to be cremated. The research facility is called MedCure. They will help many to study and to learn all they can about the human body, especially about cancer. This was Ron's way of helping as many people as he possibly could, even in death. He was well known for his kindness, generosity, and loving soul. Since the research facility takes almost 8 weeks to send his ashes back to the family, they have decided to wait for his return in order to carry out his further wishes to have his ashes scattered at his favorite spot along the Hudson River on an old oak tree at Senasqua Park in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. There, they will have a memorial service along with a "Celebration of Life" after a mass at Our Lady of MT. Carmel Church in Elmsford, NY. He was born on May 25, 1935, in Rocky Ford, Colo. to Ellsworth and Lillian Bassett. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Ellen Ruth Bassett. Walt and Ellen were married for 57 wonderful years. Walt is survived by the pride of his life, his children, Nancy (Craig) Crosson, Walter, Jr. (Kathie) Bassett and Vickie Bassett Brusig. The joy of his life, his grandchildren, Melissa (Matthew) Habrat, Sayra (Vanessa) Bassett, Brian (Kristen) Crosson, Christina Brusig, Jeffrey Crosson, Nicholas Bassett, Sarah Brusig and Andrew Brusig. The special joy of his life, his great-grandsons, Craig Thomas Habrat, Ryan Walter Willman and Sterling Grey Crosson. He is also survived by his loving brother and sister-in-law, John and Mable Bassett; sister-in-law, Claire (Robert) Bassett; seven nieces, five nephews, and many great-nieces and nephews. Walt was predeceased by his parents, Ellsworth and Lillian Bassett; brother, Robert Bassett; his father and mother-in-law, Andrew and Elizabeth Jamieson; brothers-in-law, Andy Jamieson and Earl Wilson; and sister-in-law, Corrine Wilson. Walt owned and operated Bassett Construction Company for 42 years. He was a passionate leader of Pueblo during some of its most difficult times. His excellence in leadership, his drive and determination to bring Pueblo to prominence and his love of Colorado, brought recognition to Walt not only locally but nationally. Along this journey, he met many outstanding people and made lifelong friendships. Walt and Ellen loved to travel and visited all 50 states as well as many countries. He especially loved Scotland and attending the ?Military Tattoo.? Walt enjoyed devising creative ways to celebrate with his family whether it was during the holidays or traveling with them. He built Panther Creek Ranch in the mountains in Beulah, where he lived until his death. Walt loved his mountains and recently told friends and family, ?I will see you on the other side of my mountain.?
