Survivors include her daughter; Phyllis Maye Nyahay and husband Robert of Elizabeth City, NC, her brother, Joseph Franklin McCoy of South Mills, NC, two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday at 2:00 P. M. at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Northside Road, Elizabeth City with Rev. Aaron Pendley officiating. | 50252 | Twiford Funeral Homes Artie Bass Ange (Picture included) Artie Bass Ange, 89, of Nags Head, NC died Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Spring Arbor of The Outer Banks. Born in Chowan County on December 11, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Artie White Bass and Herbert Victor Bass and the widow of Howard Mitchell Ange. In 1990, Artie began her career as a realtor earning several designations including Accredited Buyer?s Representative, Graduate of the REALTOR Institute, and Certified Residential Specialist. She was awarded the Outer Banks Realtor of Year in 1996 and in 2015, the Outer Banks Association of Realtors Career Achievement Award. Through the years, she served on various local and state committees including the First Flight Commission all while being a pillar and business owner in her community. A member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Artie also received recognition from the Rotary Club as a Paul Harris Fellow. Artie is survived by two daughters, Sanfra Ange Foshee (Craig) of Madison, MS and Harla Kay Ange (Sandi Whitehead) of Roanoke, VA; two granddaughters, Shane Foshee of Nashville, TN and Shelley Foshee Hughes (Whit) of Madison, MS; and three great-grandchildren, Phillip Hughes, Paxton Hughes, and Presley Hughes. Along with her husband and parents, Artie was preceded in death by two brothers, Lt. Col. Ed Bass and Leonard ?Poss? Bass. A funeral will be held at 10:00 am on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, at Twiford Colony Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Cribb officiating. A graveside committal will follow at 2:00 pm at Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton. The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home. She was born July 11, 1957 to the late Ronald Earl Bass and Barbara Ann Bazemore and was the widow of Teddy Cole Turner, Sr. Kathy was a homemaker and a member of Whiteville Grove Baptist Church. Kathy is survived by a daughter, Tina Russell Eley (Presley); a son, Ted Turner, Jr. (Betty); five grandchildren, Rebecca Turner, Kaylin Russell, Blair Russell, Emily Russell and Autumn Heflin; sisters, Rhonda Dail, Angela Lane (Mike), Robin Temple (Aubrey), Barbara Cuellar (Richard) and Donna Byrum (Ricky). Bessette "The incredibly good looking and talented", as he would describe himself, Richard "Buzz" Bessette of Powells Point, NC passed away on June 21, 2020 at the age of 66. Born in El Paso, Texas to Richard Bessette and the late Georgia Lee Bessette, Buzz came from a long line of exceptional musicians. It was his destiny to become one of the greats. He began his career in 1971, fresh out of high school and filled with dreams, he started jamming with the east coast rockers Helicopter. During the 70's he performed with such acts as George and the Diminished 5th, Dawn of Atlantis show band and the 50's rockers, The Stingrays. In the late 70's, Buzz decided to diversify his musical style and performed with East Coast Express Jazz Band in the legendary Orion's Roof Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In 1980 he met Ramses Lewis who advised him to study classical to continue to improve in technique and style. Early in 1981, he began studying classical piano under the guidance of Ila Bovee. Ila became one of his greatest influencers and someone he admired dearly. That same year Buzz got his first house gig with the show and dance band Nite Life Review in Virginia Beach's Tom's Tiki Tai Club where he performed as music director and keyboardist and also performed jazz as a solo act before the shows. In 1984, following in the footsteps of his father Dick, Buzz got invited to come to the Outer Banks to perform as a solo act at the Sea Ranch in Kill Devil Hills. He remained a true lounge lizard there for an astonishing 16 years and performed over 4500 shows. Following his years at the Sea Ranch, Buzz played with local bands: The Crowd and The Bellhops. He also played piano and was the musical director at Mighty Wind United Methodist Church and played with the Outer Banks Music Showcase. He was a man of many talents and an entire book could be written about his musical career alone. Buzz met many people throughout his years of playing, and each one will tell you just how incredible he was. Apart from his love of music, women, and the Dallas Cowboys, Buzz had the biggest love for his family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Lee Bessette. He is survived by his father, Richard "Dick" Bessette of Cape Coral, FL, son Ricky Bessette and wife Hazel of Suffolk, VA, daughter Lindsay Epstein and husband Kevin of Gloucester, VA, brother Bob Bessette and wife Debby of Hampton, VA, sisters Janet Zapolski, Linda Martinez, and Tracy Luna of Powells Point, NC, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His legacy will live on through his 3 grandchildren who adored their "Pops": Leah, Elias and Benjamin Epstein. In true Buzz form, instead of a traditional service, he wanted a party to celebrate his life. A party with great music, good food, and all of his family and friends reminiscing about his wonderful time spent on earth. Because of today's pandemic, a celebration date and location will be announced at a later time. As Buzz would say, "Thank you, thank you very much." He graduated from Lower Merion High School, Class of '41, then attended Temple Univ., U of Penn and Harvard Univ. under the V-12 program and served as a Naval Officer in WWII. He was also a member of Phi Gamma Fraternity. He was co-owner with his twin brother, Henry, of Bassett McNab Co., a designer Fabric Company in business for well over 100 years in Philadelphia, now in Wyndmoor PA. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; 3 sons, Robert Jr. (Pep) (Donna), Bruce Y. (Marjorie) and Scott D. (Shannon); twin brother Henry and sister Ann B. Spicer; 10 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. There will be a Memorial Service Friday, October 5, at 11 A.M., at St. David's Episcopal Church, 763 Valley Force Rd., Wayne PA, with a reception following in the Fellowship Hall. | 50257 | Twin WILLIAM AUGUSTUS (1887-1973) took increasing responsibility for the wine-making operations. Born at Roma on 27 April 1887 and educated there and at The Armidale School, New South Wales, William was sent to Sydney by his father to learn the wine-making art from Leo Buring Like his father, Bassett was interested in grazing, holding at various times Crochdantigh near Muckadilla, Karoola Park and Ventura Downs in the Surat district, and Mooga Hills near Roma. On 8 June 1911 at Roma he married Ruby Maiden who predeceased him in 1971. Actively managing Romavilla into his old age, he died after a short period of illness on 4 December 1973, aged 86. The business was then sold. He had been a respected member of the business community and a strong supporter of local interests. Clyde Hazel (Pop) Bass, 69, of 512 Rockspring Road died at 6:30 a.m. Friday at High Point Memorial Hospital. He had been in ill health several years and in critical condition two days. He was born in Stanley Oct. 27, 1893, a son of William A. and Alice Morris Bass. He had lived in High Point 35 years. He came here from Charlotte. He was an accountant with the George G. Scott Accounting firm of Charlotte and also operated the Bass Bookkeeping Service of High Point. He was part owner of a number of furniture stored in the state, including Almond ? Bass of High Point and Crim, Brun and Green of Winston-Salem. He was a member of the High Point Lions Club and was Lion of the Year in 1955-56. He had served as cabinet secretary to the district governor of the Lions Club. He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cosie Burgess Bass of the home; a daughter, Mrs. W.B. Reisenweaver of Winston-Salem; a son, Harold B. Bass of High Point and, eight grandchildren.
