Army in Iraq; his mother, Tamsen Morgan of Dalton, GA; grandparents, Phillip & Denise Bass of Dallas, GA; step-mother, Angela Ragsdale of Fort Hood, TX; step-father, Shannon Morgan of Dalton, GA; a brother, Ashton Evans of Dallas, GA; a sister, Micaela Ragsdale of Fort Hood, TX; step-brother, Austin Croker of Fort Hood, TX; grandparents, Jerry & Kathy Ragsdale of Sharpsburg, GA; great-grandparents, William J. & Barbara Bass of Powder Springs, GA, James Elmer Chastain of Lula, GA and Hazel Ragsdale of Newnan, GA; uncles and cousins. September 29, 2026 On September 29, 2026 Sharon Rose Bass (Brown), age 75, of Ponca City, Oklahoma, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory, 505 W Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74601. This bright light was brought into this world on July 07, 1951 in Dumas, Texas, to parents? Paul Brown and Shirley Brown (Byrd). She was the oldest of six children. Sharon grew up in Nardin, Oklahoma and graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1969. You could find her nose in a book most of those days as a child, as she learned to read at a very young age. Sharon lived a life deeply rooted in family and her faith, her love for Jesus Christ. Her love and devotion for family, friends and anyone she came to know was selfless. She was the devoted wife of Clyde H. Bass for 48 years. Clyde passed this year on February 23. She lovingly referred to him as ?My honey Clyde?. Sharon was a devoted Mother to James Bass (Ponca City, OK) & Harold Bass (Tulsa, Ok). Sharon was also very devoted to her sisters? Joyce, Patricia, Debra, and brothers? Hershel & Jerry. Sharon modeled a servant?s heart in all she did. She was an RN and retired after 25 years of service for The Kay County Health Department. She gained many friendships throughout her career. Sharon was a devoted member of Faith Tabernacle Church in Ponca City, Oklahoma. Pastors Don & Norene Stanton provided her with comfort and support. Many years of her life she was a Sunday School teacher. Sharon is survived by; all her siblings: Joyce Romine (Brown), Patricia Scrimsher (Brown), Jerry Brown, Debra Ramsey (Brown), all of Ponca City, Ok, Hershel Brown & wife Kristi of Yukon, Ok; Sister-in-law Vickie Bass of Ponca City, sons? She was born on April 4, 1968 in Iredell County to Agnes Jane Webb and the late Gary Lee Brown. Carmen was the first "Little Miss South Iredell" and a graduate of South Iredell High School. She was married to her high school sweetheart and the love of her life, Dennis Bass, for 30 years. As her family described her, she was "a firecracker with a heart of gold." She dearly loved her family and they loved her. Carmen was a hard worker who at an early age began her career to support her family. Over the years, she built a very successful real estate appraisal business and was well respected by her professional colleagues. She loved poetry and was known for using many poetical quotes. She loved to travel especially enjoying her trips to the beach and adored animals including her own dogs and cats. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dennis, of Statesville; daughter, Christina Bass of Statesville; mother, Agnes Jane Webb of Harmony; sister, Laury Brown of Statesville; brothers, Justin Brown of Fort Bliss, TX, David Perkins of Fayetteville and Mike Green of Seattle, WA; and stepmother, Ann Green of Waldport, OR. Onsrud, Inc. and is married to Debbie Nixon Bass, who survives. Dub was born May 18, 1936, in Iredell County to the late Manley Wilson Bass Sr. and Oma Lee Waugh Bass. Along with his parents he was proceeded in death by five sisters and brother in laws. Marcelle and Hunter Stevenson, Audrey and Brice Pope, Edith and Jack Whitlock, Nellie and Johnny Haithcox, Johnsie and Clay Watt. Those left to cherish Dub?s Memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Carolyn Ingram Bass, two sons, Scott ?Lisa Starrette? Bass, and Derrick ?Tori Miller? Bass; five grandchildren, Laura Cashion ?Brian?, Sean, Montana, Colt, and Gage Bass. Dub graduated from Statesville Senior High with the Class of 1954 and soon there after Joined the U S Army ?Military Police Unit? where he served his Country proudly. Upon discharge from the Army, he worked with E.B. Stafford Engineering as a Surveyor before joining the City of Statesville where he retired from as the Assistant Public Works Director after 31 years of service with the city. He then later worked 15 years at Lakewood Golf Course with his longtime friends J.P. Wooten and Buck Lefever. Dub also served 31 years on the board of West Iredell Water Corporation. Dub loved his farming, horses and mules and made many special friends through the years working horse shows and trail riding. He loved his neighbors and spent many hours mowing the yards on Black Road with what became known as the Black Road Mowers Association. Dub was an active and long-term member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and in lieu of flowers the family request memorials be directed to Bethlehem Methodist Church or the Hospice House of Statesville. The family also expresses special thanks and their love to Wanda Potts, Angie Moser and Deanna Howard for all the special help and support during his decline in health. The family also offers thanks to the staff of Iredell Memorial?s Skilled Nursing Department, Autumn Care of Statesville, and Hospice House of Statesville. He was husband of Rose Luop Bassett, son of the late Lewis G. Bassett and the late Katherine Buckley Bassett. He had been a resident of the Town of Easton for the past 15 years. Mr. Bassett taught in the Hoosick Valley School. He was a former resident of Mechanicville, was graduated from the Mechanicville High School, and received his BA degree at SUNY at Albany. He was an active member of the Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the choir of that church. He was a past superintendent of the church Sunday School and a former church deacon. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his father, Lewis G. Bassett of Easton; two sons, Stamford A. and Lewis R. Bassett, both of Easton, a daughter, Mrs. John E. Mohan, Albany; a brother, Richard C. Bassett of Oakfield. She was raised by her grandparents, John and Ruby Tierney in Spalding. Sandy passed away April 19, 2023 in Lincoln at the age of 69. Sandy dedicated her life to taking care of people, including her four children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Family meant everything to Sandy and her love was felt immensely. She was the glue that held them together, always extending a helping hand in whatever way she could. Sandy enjoyed family get-togethers, preparing mouthwatering dishes and desserts; celebrations always included some of her best meals. She passed along her favorite recipes to anyone who inquired. Good times together, whatever the occasion, always included great food. | 50418 | Tubman Funeral Homes Charles Philip Bassett January 8, 1937 ? February 22, 2026 Charles died suddenly, following a brief illness, on February 22. He was 89. He was born and raised in a small village in Wales. Along with the love of his life for 70 years, Sandra, he graduated from Cardiff University. They were married in 1961, living near Manchester, England. In 1968, Charles moved their young family to Ottawa, accepting a job with the Public Service Commission. He went on to work at the Post Office and Privy Council Office before finding his true passion and extended family at the Canadian International Development Agency. At CIDA he held various positions, including Vice-President of the Africa, Corporate Affairs, and Central and Eastern Europe branches, ultimately becoming Senior Vice-President. From 1989 to 1993 he was Canadian Ambassador to Angola and Mozambique and High Commissioner to Botswana and Zimbabwe, living in Harare. Upon leaving the public service he was appointed Canadian Executive Director to the Inter-American Development Bank in Washington, D.C., where he lived until retiring back to Ottawa. Charles had boundless energy and was always on the go and doing things. He loved travel, classical music, telling overly elaborate jokes and stories, gardening, wine tasting and life. He was a passionate and talented home cook and made countless excellent meals over the years for his family and many friends. He leaves behind his three children, Caroline, Christopher and Matthew, and eight grandchildren, Alexa, Jason, Justine, Joshua, Adam, Liam, Rhys and Miles. Many thanks to his wonderful neighbors and friends who supported Charles, particularly in the last few years. Keith was so loved not only by his family but by a variety of friends and coworkers over the years, near and far who will all miss his funny stories, his considerate and understanding way, thoughtful gestures, and his sarcastic wit. Born January 4, 1927, in Seminole, Okla., Cleo was the daughter of Walter and Myrtle (Clem) Firestone. During her early years, Walter worked in the oilfield and the Firestone family lived in several nearby towns where work could be found. She would later become a graduate of Seminole High School. Following high school, Cleo would attend Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Okla. Cleo earned a degree in home economics and was also a member of the OBU girls' varsity basketball team. While at OBU, she met fellow student William A. Bass, Jr. or "Bill." The two were married on September 4, 1949. Soon after, Cleo and Bill began their family and would have four children: William III, Gary, Ric and Amy. Once the children were in junior high and high school, Cleo went back to school herself, completing her Master's Degree at OSU and then beginning a 24-year career with Tulsa Public Schools where she taught middle school science. She and Bill also enjoyed traveling and belonged to a group named the Road Scholars going on nearly 30 expeditions where she was constantly learning about science and nature throughout different regions of the United States. Cleo loved to garden including planting trees and flowers. An avid orchid lover, she spent many hours in her plant room tending them. She was a member of the Tulsa Orchid Society. Also, Cleo also had a keen interest in needle point and was active in fine tailoring with a group named Third Hand in Tulsa. A longtime member of South Tulsa Baptist Church, Cleo loved the Lord and His creation. She also loved her family and friends and she will be missed by her survivors who include: her husband and partner of 68 years, Bill Bass of the home; her children: William Bass, III and wife, Mary of Seminole, FL, Gary Bass of Clearwater, FL, Ric Bass of Tulsa, and Amy Bass of Anaheim, CA; a sister, Connie (Firestone) Little of San Francisco; a brother, Larry Firestone of Burnet, TX; and her grandchildren: Katy, Kyle, Lexie, and Chelsea Bass. "Bill" Bass, Jr. will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 in the South Tulsa Baptist Church Chapel. Bill passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2018, in Tulsa. He was 90. Arrangements have been entrusted to Bixby Funeral Service. Born May 21, 1927 in Ft. Worth, TX, Bill was the first of two sons born to William A. Bass, Sr. and Dovie (Law) Bass. While growing up, the Bass family lived in North Texas, Kansas and Tulsa. He graduated from Will Rogers High School in 1944. Bill attended Oklahoma Baptist University where he met and married fellow student, Cleo Firestone. Their wedding was September 4, 1949 in Shawnee, OK. While in school, Bill joined the U.S. Navy where he served as a pilot during the Korean War. Bill was honorably discharged and completed his petroleum engineering degree at the University of Oklahoma. He was employed in Duncan, OK and Oklahoma City before returning to Tulsa where he worked as a geologist and petroleum engineer; most significantly, for prominent oilman and philanthropist, J.A. Chapman. Bill loved playing golf and had been a member of the Oaks Country Club. He enjoyed playing with his golfing buddies for many years. An avid sports fan, he enthusiastically watched television coverage of the Sooners and the San Antonio Spurs where his brother had been the head coach. Bill was known as a dedicated coach for his children and a devoted spectator of his grandchildren's sports and school activities. Bill was a member of the Tulsa Petroleum Club where he was elected to a term as Vice President. Genealogy was a great interest for Bill. He had been a member and served a term of President for the Broken Arrow Genealogical Society. Bill participated in many adventurous trips with ElderHostel/Road Scholar along with numerous family members. Enjoyment of these trips lead to him becoming a local spokesperson for the organization. Bill was an active member of South Tulsa Baptist Church before his health began to decline. He entered this world on February 11, 1968 in Portland, Maine, to his parents Malcolm O. Bassett and Janet M. (McCullum) Bassett. Bill lived many places including going from Maine, New Jersey, New York, California, the Island of Guam, back to Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, back to Massachusetts, Virginia, Oklahoma, and Florida. Bill was known for his great sense of humor and his loving personality. He had a life well lived and was blessed in many areas of being extremely successful. While living in Massachusetts for the second time, Bill continued traveling as a truck driver. During this time, Bill pursued entrepreneurial interests to include real estate and ownership of Mustang Tire and Lube in Oologah, Oklahoma. He finally established roots in Claremore, Oklahoma where he resided for the last 20 years. He also had property in Port Charlotte, Florida, which is where he would spend half his time. Bill was blessed with being able to retire at the young age of 48. While enjoying life between Oklahoma and Florida, Bill met many people who became extended family to him. Bill expressed he "lived a great full life and was at peace". Bill was preceded in death by his father, Malcolm O. Bassett; and his mother, Janet M. Bassett. He is survived by his sole immediate family member, his sister, Jana M. Bassett-Fulkerson. A private family service was held on Wednesday, February 3rd. Pat was born in Emmitsburg, Maryland, on August 1, 1934, the daughter of Charles Edward and Beatrice Pearl (Messner) Smith. She grew up in Thurmont, Maryland, and following her graduation from high school, she attended the University of Maryland to pursue her love of helping people through nursing. While working as a registered nurse in Baltimore, she met the love of her life, Dr. Haskell Harris Bass, Jr. They began dating, and were later married in Washington, D.C., in 1958. Throughout their 59 years of marriage, they enjoyed spending time with one another playing tennis, socializing and traveling with friends, and spending time at Grand Lake. Pat loved her dogs very much, and she looked forward to taking them on daily walks. She had a passion for cooking, and was happy when seeing others enjoy the delicious food that she made. She also studied calligraphy, and shared her talents through this beautiful form of handwriting. She was an active member of All Saints Anglican Church, Registered Nurse Community Volunteers (RNCV), Chapter EC PEO, Tulsa County Medical Alliance, and Tulsa Southern Tennis Club. She is survived by her children, Haskell H. Bass, III, of Yukon, OK, Patricia R. Schneider, Elizabeth A. Bass, and Robert J. Bass; two grandchildren, Kaylie M. Schneider and Barrett A. Bass, whose book reviews and conservative letters to the editor became regular features of the Tulsa World, died Sunday. He was 76. Services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at Kirk of the Hills Presbyterian under the direction of Stanley's Funeral Home. A native of Hulbert, Bass was a 31-year military man, whose service included flying 864 missions in the Vietnam War. Bass earned his bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland and a master's degree from the University of Colorado. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, 15 Air Force medals, and nine other campaign and service decorations. In 1969, he took command of an ROTC unit at the University of Tulsa, where he was a professor of aerospace studies until his retirement in 1973. He drew national attention in 1970 with a campaign to help the Stow children, five orphans whose father, Maj. Liburn R. Stow, had been killed in Vietnam. As a result of a letter to the editor Bass wrote to the Air Force Times, more than $24,000 was raised and placed in an educational trust for the children. Bass was honored in 1972 for his work for the Stow children by being invited to sit in a place of honor at Tulsa's annual Veteran's Day parade. He received the American Legion's Legion of Merit Award in 1973. In his retirement, Bass became a regular contributor to the Tulsa World and other area newspapers. His letters to the editor maintained a consistently conservative outlook, criticizing Vice President Al Gore, the U.S. Supreme Court and, time and again, President Clinton. He also was a regular contributor to the World's Sunday book page, reviewing military history books. Survivors include his wife, Hannah; a son, James Bass of Tulsa; two daughters, Janet Garlow of Lawrence, Kan., and Julia Bass of Marquette, Mich.; and five grandchildren. Funeral Service 10 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Anglican Church. Dr. Bass was born June 6, 1930, in Bradenton, Florida, the son of Haskell Harris Bass, Sr., and Edith Eppes Bass. He grew up in the Bradenton area, graduating high school from Riverside Military Academy in Georgia class of 1948. He continued his education, pursuing his passion of medicine. He completed his undergraduate work at Emory University, then attended Tulane University for medical school, followed by a residency in Baltimore, Maryland, and fellowship at the University of Minnesota. He then relocated to Tulsa where he began his medical practice with his colleague, Dr. J.D. Shipp. In August of 1958, he married Patricia Elizabeth Smith, in Washington, D.C. Throughout their 59 years of marriage they enjoyed spending time with one another at Grand Lake, boating, socializing and traveling with friends. | 50431 | Tulsa World, Oklahoma, Wednesday, October 18, 2017 Barbara Bass Berry Barbara Bass Berry was born in Enid, Oklahoma on July 29, 1925, to Henry "Heinie" Benjamin Bass and Roberta "Bertie" Lee Herring Bass. She passed from this life peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on October 15, 2017, at the age of 92. She graduated from Enid High School in 1943 and attended the University of Oklahoma. It was there her Pi Beta Phi Sorority sister, Barbara Berry, from Sapulpa introduced her brother, Guy L. Berry, Jr., to Barbara Bass. Barbara and Guy married in June, 1946, and together they raised their family of four children in Sapulpa. Barbara called Enid her home, but Sapulpa was her life. She was very proud of being a Homemaker, a Cub Scout Leader for all three sons, and her daughter's Camp Fire Girl Leader for ten years. She gladly hosted many parties and school trips for her children. She loved to cook and she and Guy enjoyed entertaining many friends and family. Guy often affectionately called her "The Hostess with the Mostess." She was fiercely loyal to all her many friends and would do anything for them. She belonged to both The Alumnae of Pi Beta Phi Sorority and Chapter G of PEO for over seventy years. She served in many local and state capacities for both sisterhoods. Barbara always stressed to her family that they are responsible for making their communities and state the best they can be. She spent her entire adult life "giving back" by using her multitude of connections to do just that. She was known for her "gentle persuasion." It was often heard one could never say, "No" to Barbara Berry because she would "encourage" you endlessly until you gave in. Barbara was a member of The First Presbyterian Church, The Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce, The United Way, The Sapulpa Historical Society, Creek County Republicans, a Chairman of the Charity Ball to fund SHOW projects in Sapulpa, The Oklahoma Arts Institute, the Oklahoma Heritage Association, The Western History Museum at the University of Oklahoma, a founder of The University of Oklahoma President's Association, and a former President of the University of Oklahoma Alumnae Council. She kept close ties with her beloved Enid by serving on the Bobsfarm, Inc. Board of Directors. She was recognized as The Citizen of the Year by the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce, a recipient of the John Gulnic Award for Service to The Camp Fire Program, a member of The University of Oklahoma Hall of Fame, a Guy Brown Award Recipient for Service to the University of Oklahoma Alumni Association, and a recipient of the University of Oklahoma Panhellenic Outstanding Greek Award. She helped organize the Sapulpa Arts Program and the Sapulpa Panhellenic. Governor Henry Bellmon appointed her the first woman to serve on the Oklahoma Highway Commission. She was a prime instigator behind combining U.S Highways 60, 62, 64, and 155 and State Highway 51 in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Tennessee into US 412 creating a vital link of the National Highway System. She was instrumental in starting the "Don't Lay That Trash on Oklahoma" Anti-Litter Campaign. She could often be seen picking up trash along our local highways and planting flowers in downtown Sapulpa. And although Barbara was the ultimate volunteer, her greatest achievement was being a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was devoted to her family and was adored by all. Her happiest times were when her ever increasing family was home visiting and laughing with their "Mima." He was 75. A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Sept. 9 at Fitzgerald's Ivy Chapel Funeral Home. Bessette was born in Chicago, and he graduated from the University of Illinois. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II, seeing action in Guam and Iwo Jima. In 1947 he married Elizabeth Ann Porter. After the war, he went to work in the promotions department of Popular Mechanics magazine, moving later to the publication's advertising and sales department. After working in a variety of other publishing ventures, Bessette joined Pennwell in 1974. He retired in 1993 as a publishing group vice president. After retirement, he was a publicity volunteer for Up with Trees! and Tulsa Senior Services, and he served as the publisher of Vintage Tulsa for several years. He was a member of All Souls Unitarian Church. Ann was born on November 25, 1926 in Olney, Illinois to Howard Porter and Mary Weber Porter. Ann was preceded in death by: her parents; brother, Chappy; her devoted husband, Joe; her eldest son, Dan; and her grandson, Travis. She is survived by: her sisters, Claire and Maisie; her children, Michael, Susan, Chad, and Matthew; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. Ann lived her life with gusto. She and husband Joe served and supported the Tulsa community on many levels. Their beloved All Souls Unitarian Church was a source of great fulfillment, and many lasting friendships. Ann's love of literature prompted her to become a Library Board Member, and an instrumental member of a local play-reading group. Her love of (and accomplishment in) art led to her involvement with Tulsa's Philbrook Museum of Art, as well as many local artistic endeavors. A world traveler and participant in cultural exchange, Ann became an avid collector of unusual artifacts. A driving force was her thirst for learning, she had a long tenure as a student on the local college campuses. Ann's zest for life kept her engaged with the world, and the world will miss her. Andre the youngest of 8 children, born May 11, 1962, the son of the late James and Ruby Bassett. Andre was born in Hazelwood and raised in Homestead, PA. He enjoyed music, at one time playing the Conga drums. He loved and played football. Andre was a graduate of Steel Valley High School in 1980. Later attending West Virginia Wesleyan. Upon returning to Homestead he attended and received his degree in Criminal Justice at Allegheny Community College. During his time there he was employed at The Original Station Street Hot Dog in East Liberty. While working there he met Susan Johnson and was in a 6 year relationship and were blessed with his only child in 1985, Ashley Nicole Bassett-Johnson. Andre moved to DC in 1987 where he worked for the National Children?s Center working with children with disabilities at least 20 years. Abigail Bass, a long-time resident of Lake Warren, passed away November 14, 2019, after a yearlong battle with cancer. Born May 6, 1948, to Dean and Josephine Ross (nee Parrish), Penny grew up on a farm west of Monmouth with 5 siblings and began school at Hornbeck, a one-room schoolhouse. At Yorkwood high school she was a good student, horsewoman, cheerleader and very well-liked by her classmates. After graduating, she spent time studying at the University of Illinois and Carl Sandburg College. In 1968 Penny began working in bookkeeping at the Monmouth Trust & Savings Bank and stayed with the company through its transitions to Marquette Bank and then Wells Fargo until 2010. Once you were Penny?s friend, you were always her friend. She was kind to everyone she met, and a very humble woman with a good sense of humor, keen memory and a sharp mind. She enjoyed traveling and visiting family and friends, reading, and crossword puzzles. In her later years, Penny sat with and cared for several aging family and friends in need. During her final year, she was blessed to have many friends and family help care for her in return and also had the chance to reconnect with some dear friends from the past. Penny will be lovingly remembered by her sons Stewart Bass of Yankton, South Dakota, and Derek Bass of New York City; her sister Katy DuMosch of Oak View, CA; brothers Bill Ross of Henderson, NV, and Albert Ross of Monmouth; many cousins and nephews; and all her friends over the years. She was predeceased by her father Dean Ross, mother Josephine (Parrish) Ross, sister Celia (Ross) Brandon, and brother Jim Ross. A Celebration of Penny?s life will be held on Friday, November 22, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Monmouth V.F.W., 830 N. G. Street. | 50436 | Turner Funeral Homes James William Bass James William Bass was born June 27, 1957 in Fredericksburg, Virginia, the son of William Edward E. Bass and May Madeline Gaylor Bass. He completed the eleventh grade at Algona High School and then enlisted in the United States Army. He served at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri working with missiles until he was honorably discharged in September, 1975. Jim worked at Whittemore AMPI Creamery after he returned from the service and later worked at Stollers in Spirit Lake. In 1978, Jim worked for Northern Diecast until he was laid off in 2009. Due to illness, he was unable to continue working. Jim enjoyed camping and fishing from early childhood on into his teenage years. In the late 80's and early 90's, he enjoyed the hobby of building and flying radio controlled planes with his dad. Jim enjoyed getting together with family during the holidays and birthdays. He also enjoyed hanging out with his friends. Jim passed away August 4, 2011 at his home in Milford at fifty-four years of age. He is survived by his sister, Frances Edwina Lee (Bass) Hentges; step-sister, Loleta Barriage; brother-in-law, Archie Barriage; two nephews and one niece. April 28, 2021 Mr. Charles Rudolph Bass Jr, 76, a resident of Pike Road, Alabama, passed away unexpectedly at Baptist Medical Center South on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. A graveside service for Mr. Bass will be held at 2 PM on Friday, April 30th, in Pleasant Home Cemetery with Brother Eddie Newton officiating and Turners Funeral Home of Luverne directing. There will be a celebration of his life at 11 AM on Monday, May 3rd, at Thorington Road Baptist Church with the family receiving friends at 10 AM until the service time. Mr. Bass was a proud graduate of Auburn University, where he earned a Bachelor?s in Education. While still a student, he became an engineer with AMPEX in the Auburn area and worked for them for 30 years before retiring. Following that, Mr. Bass worked for ALFA in insurance for a bit before owning and operating CMI Electronics. With his company, he handled numerous jobs and even travelled to Turkey to install systems there. For 20 years, he thoroughly enjoyed working the chains at Auburn football games. He and his family were mainstays at those games for decades, even when he wasn?t working, so that they could cheer on his alma mater. In his free time, Mr. Bass enjoyed fishing and travelling. In fact, they had just purchased an RV so that they could enjoy travelling the country. He was also extremely involved in service for his church, Thorington Road Baptist Church, where he and his family were faithful members. Above all, he was a devoted husband and father. He considered his two daughters the greatest blessings in his life, and was an active participant and spectator in every event they were involved in. He had a way of livening up any gathering with his great sense of humor and gentle joking, and loved dancing with his wife and daughters. They will dearly miss such a special man, but they will continue to cherish all of the memories they made together over the years. Mr. Bass was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Rudolph Sr & Dorothy Hogan Bass. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Rebecca Bruner Bass; their two daughters & sons-in-law, Lindsey & Blake Missildine and Lauren & Tyler Kolling; his beloved cocker spaniel, Tinkerbell; and numerous other family members & friends. Mr. Bass spent many years working as a printer with the Opp News, and later in life he became a cook with the Chicken Shack in Luverne. In his free time, he thoroughly enjoyed working outside in his yard, be it mowing his grass, planting flowers, or just creating beautiful scenery. He also loved to play music and sing, especially karaoke. On Saturdays in the Fall, he could most often be found cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide during their football games. Above all, he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and brother who truly cherished the time he spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed, but his family finds comfort in the knowledge that he has now been reunited with the love of his life, Miss Sue, who he dearly missed. Affectionately known by everyone as ?Miss Sue,? she spent over 30 years there at the Shack. She was a mainstay there and always had a smile for everyone. She became famous for warmingly assuring her customers that she?d have their food out to them ?in about 15 minutes.? She was sorely missed by both her co-workers and regular customers after her retirement. Her family and friends will cherish all the wonderful memories they made with her over a lifetime. She continued her professional career as Principal at both Oakdale Elementary School (1986-1994) and Woodland Forrest Elementary School (1994-1999. She was chosen to serve as the Director of Leadership Training for the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) in Montgomery, Alabama. She returned to the Tuscaloosa County Schools as Principal at Englewood Elementary School in 2002 from which she retired in 2014. During her career, she earned many honors and awards, served on numerous educational committees and planned, facilitated and presented multiple workshops for both teachers and administrators. She served as president of the following organizations; Districts III and VII Elementary Principals, Alabama Association of Elementary School Principals and Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools. She was awarded the Outer Banks Realtor of Year in 1996 and in 2015, the Outer Banks Association of Realtors Career Achievement Award. Through the years, she served on various local and state committees including the First Flight Commission all while being a pillar and business owner in her community. A member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Artie also received recognition from the Rotary Club as a Paul Harris Fellow. Artie is survived by two daughters, Sanfra Ange Foshee (Craig) of Madison, MS and Harla Kay Ange (Sandi Whitehead) of Roanoke, VA; two granddaughters, Shane Foshee of Nashville, TN and Shelley Foshee Hughes (Whit) of Madison, MS; and three great-grandchildren, Phillip Hughes, Paxton Hughes, and Presley Hughes. Bessette "The incredibly good looking and talented", as he would describe himself, Richard "Buzz" Bessette of Powells Point, NC passed away on June 21, 2020 at the age of 66. Born in El Paso, Texas to Richard Bessette and the late Georgia Lee Bessette, Buzz came from a long line of exceptional musicians. It was his destiny to become one of the greats. He began his career in 1971, fresh out of high school and filled with dreams, he started jamming with the east coast rockers Helicopter. During the 70's he performed with such acts as George and the Diminished 5th, Dawn of Atlantis show band and the 50's rockers, The Stingrays. In the late 70's, Buzz decided to diversify his musical style and performed with East Coast Express Jazz Band in the legendary Orion's Roof Club in Virginia Beach, Virginia. In 1980 he met Ramses Lewis who advised him to study classical to continue to improve in technique and style. Early in 1981, he began studying classical piano under the guidance of Ila Bovee. Ila became one of his greatest influencers and someone he admired dearly. That same year Buzz got his first house gig with the show and dance band Nite Life Review in Virginia Beach's Tom's Tiki Tai Club where he performed as music director and keyboardist and also performed jazz as a solo act before the shows. In 1984, following in the footsteps of his father Dick, Buzz got invited to come to the Outer Banks to perform as a solo act at the Sea Ranch in Kill Devil Hills. He remained a true lounge lizard there for an astonishing 16 years and performed over 4500 shows. Following his years at the Sea Ranch, Buzz played with local bands: The Crowd and The Bellhops. He also played piano and was the musical director at Mighty Wind United Methodist Church and played with the Outer Banks Music Showcase. He was a man of many talents and an entire book could be written about his musical career alone. Buzz met many people throughout his years of playing, and each one will tell you just how incredible he was. Apart from his love of music, women, and the Dallas Cowboys, Buzz had the biggest love for his family. He was preceded in death by his mother, Georgia Lee Bessette. He is survived by his father, Richard "Dick" Bessette of Cape Coral, FL, son Ricky Bessette and wife Hazel of Suffolk, VA, daughter Lindsay Epstein and husband Kevin of Gloucester, VA, brother Bob Bessette and wife Debby of Hampton, VA, sisters Janet Zapolski, Linda Martinez, and Tracy Luna of Powells Point, NC, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His legacy will live on through his 3 grandchildren who adored their "Pops": Leah, Elias and Benjamin Epstein. In true Buzz form, instead of a traditional service, he wanted a party to celebrate his life. A party with great music, good food, and all of his family and friends reminiscing about his wonderful time spent on earth. Because of today's pandemic, a celebration date and location will be announced at a later time. As Buzz would say, "Thank you, thank you very much."
