Lee Bassett, 88, of Portage, passed away peacefully July 9, 2007, at Divine Savior Healthcare Extended Care, after a long illness. A private family memorial service will be held. The Pflanz Mantey Mendrala Funeral Home in Portage is assisting the family. He was born January 17, 1919, in Green Bay, to Clifford and Marion (Black) Bassett. He served his country in the United State Navy during World War II as a naval lieutenant navigator. Lee was married to Mary Jane Palmer on September 22, 1944, while in service at Newport, Rhode Island. They shared 62 wonderful years together. Lee was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather; family was foremost in his life. Lee graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a business degree prior to his military service. He was an insurance underwriter for Hardware Mutual in Stevens Point, credit manager for G.P.F. in Milwaukee, and credit manager for General Foods in Evanston, Illinois. In 1956, he purchased K-P Shoe Company in Portage and manufactured baby shoes until he retired to Florida in 1983. Lee and Mary Jane returned to Portage early this year. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane, Portage; a daughter, Pamela (Douglas) Williams, Portage; a son, Lee M. Bassett, Bayonet Point, Florida; grandchildren, Rachel Schaaf, Fitchburg and Brianne WIlliams, Portage; great-grandchildren, Eli Colson, Portage; Benjamin Schaaf and Kaylee Schaaf, both of Fitchburg; other relatives and many friends. | 52206 | Wisconsin Obituary, April 2007 Mrs. Dorothy L. Saaf (Picture included) Racine- Mrs. Dorothy L. Saaf, 78, passed away at her home, in the loving arms of her husband, on Monday, April 23, 2007 following a courageous struggle with pulmonary fibrosis. Dort was born in Chippewa Falls, WI on May 5, 1928 to the late Eugene and Ida (nee: LaPlante) Bassette. A graduate of Bloomer High School in Bloomer, WI, she went on to fulfill a State indentured apprenticeship in photography. On February 27, 1954 in Bloomer, Dort was united in marriage with the love of her life, Marvin “Mike” Saaf. A woman of profound Catholic faith, she was an extremely devoted member of St. Sebastian Catholic Church where she was forever involved in various capacities “ prayer group host, annual parish festivals especially with the Polka Mass, food pantry and Pro-Life activist “ just to name a few. Constantly concerned for others, Dort and Mike traveled on several trips to Kentucky, bringing life necessities to the less fortunate in some of the poorest communities of our Country. They also had the opportunity to travel with church family to religion rich locations, including a Medjugorie pilgrimage. Among her interests, Dort was an animal enthusiast to say the least, enjoyed tending to her garden and park-like yard, bowling, and organizing couples dartball leagues over the years. Above all, Dort always placed her God and her family as priority one in life. Surviving are her loving husband of over 53 years, Marvin “Mike”; their children, Patrick (Blanca) Saaf of York, PA and Michelle (Rusty) Saaf of Racine; grandchildren, Brissel and Arlan Saaf; Staci Carlson, Sara Carlson and Joshua Saaf Carlson; great-grandchildren, Aidan Saaf-McBain and Peyton Saaf; sister, JoAnn (Gordon) Clay; brother-in-law, Delmar Marty; nieces and nephews, Andrew Clay, Nancy Fliehr, Karen Hotvedt; Gene Bassette, John Bassette, Paul Bassette, Peter Bassette, Michael Bassette and Mary Streuli; David and Sandy Bassette; Walter Marty, Nancy Marty, Joyce Carroll and Bonnie Merwin; by many other special relatives, church family and friends too numerous to mention by name; and also by her beloved pets Bojangles, Swisher, and Kobi. In addition to her parents, Dort was preceded in death by her brothers, Clifford (Doris) Bassette and Eugene Bassette; and by her sister-in-law, Ruth Marty. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Dort’s beloved St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 3126 95th Street in Sturtevant, on Thursday, April 26, 2007 at 10:30 am with Rev. James Kendzierski OFM and Rev. Robert Konkel OFM concelebrating. Interment will follow in West Lawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be at St. Sebastian Church on Wednesday from 5-8 pm with the rosary being recited at 7:30 pm. Visitation will continue at the church on Thursday from 9:30-10:30 am. In memory of Dort, memorials to St. Sebastian Parish has been suggested. A heartfelt note of thanks to the physicians, nurses and medical staffs for the wonderful care and support that was given to Dort over the years; and to our church family, neighbors and friends for the prayers, continued friendship and hospitality that was so graciously extended in our time of need. She was born on Jan. 26, 1917, in Eau Claire, the daughter of Charles and Andrina (Bakken) Spader. Margaret was united in marriage to Raymond Heath and he preceded her in death. She then married Clifford Bass, and he also preceded her in death. Mrs. Bass was a longtime resident of Madison. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Madison. Margaret was employed in housekeeping at Madison General Hospital (Meriter) for more than 21 years and prior to that worked in housekeeping at Rayovac. She volunteered at Central Wisconsin Center for the Disabled for more than 15 years as a foster grandmother. Margaret is survived by her children, including, Diane Johnson, Barbara Heath, Charles (Nettie) Heath, Richard Heath, all of Madison, Susan (Shorty) Sherrick of LaFarge, and Debra (Edward) Franklin of Madison; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Smail; and other relatives and friends. Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Charles Spader, Donald Spader and Edward Spader; her sisters, Marion Smail and Charlotte Niehus; and a grandson, David Johnson. March 10, 2024 MADISON/PORT ORANGE, FL - Steven (Steve) Clifford Bass, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones on March 10, 2024, in Daytona Beach, FL. Steve was born in Rice Lake, WI, to Clifford and Dorothy (Atwater) Bass on April 22, 1949. He attended Barron High School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Superior. While in college, he met the love of his life and best friend, Kathy. They would have celebrated their fifty-fourth wedding anniversary on March 14, 2024. After college Steve became a financial advisor with BC Ziegler & Co.(now Stifel) and worked in both the La Crosse and Madison offices. He felt lucky to have found a profession which he loved for over 40 years. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and especially enjoyed UW-basketball and football and the Green Bay Packers. His love of golf was a great excuse to spend time with his best buddies and in the evenings he could often be found with an a very dry martini with two blue cheese olives in hand. Steve was a loving and dedicated husband, a proud and patient dad and grandpa and a kind and generous friend. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Madison and Port Orange, FL; his daughter, Angie of Madison, and his daughter, Melissa; and granddaughter, Eden, of Oxford, MS. She was lovingly cared for at the Chamomile Assisted Living Facility on Madison's eastside. Born in Baraboo, Amy moved to Madison in 1925, and graduated from Central High in 1927. That year, she married Reginald Alburn Lippitt, and they had 67 happy years together. While raising nine children, she was also the office manager for R.A. Lippitt & Sons Plumbing & Heating Co. Amy was an avid supporter of life-long learning and established a series of classes for seniors called "The Learning Place" in both Madison and Mesa, Arizona. She is survived by sisters, Judyann (Donald) Meyers and Betty Jean (William) Pitcher; children, Roger Alburn "Bucky" (Barbara), Nancy Nellie (Philip) Hillery, David LeGrande "Pete" (Roberta), Amy Jacqueline "Tootie", Lucia Ann, Daniel Harrison (Glenn Mitroff), Harry Richard; 30 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, Roger (Alva) Bass, husband, Reginald; and sons, Graydon Reginald, and Timothy Benjamin. | 52210 | Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, Sunday, February 2,6 2006 John Bass VERONA - John Bass, age 69, died on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006. He was born in Reedsburg on Feb. 21, 1936, to Roger Graydon Bass and Alva Nora Anderson. He graduated from Madison West High School in 1954. He enrolled at UW-Madison and joined the Naval Reserve. To take advantage of the GI Bill, he joined the Navy after one semester at the UW. He went through boot camp at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center and served as the education petty officer of his company. Due to his efforts, his company was named a Hall of Fame company. After boot camp he went through communications school in San Diego and his rate was Communications Technician. He then shipped out to Adak, Alaska, a desolate island out in the Aleutian Islands chain. He spent his time near the naval base at a National Security Agency building monitoring Soviet Navy communications and movements. After a year of service on "the Rock," he was transferred to Washington, D.C. where he finished out his enlistment. He was very disappointed that he never served at sea. After his discharge, he re-entered UW-Madison and received a B.S. in economics in 1961. While at the university, he marched with the UW Band under Ray Dvorak, playing the double-belled euphonium and was a life long member of the band alumni. In June 1962, John married Jean Dudley and they honeymooned in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, a place he and Jean dearly love. After graduation he joined Wilbur Dudley's advertising agency where he decided they could more economically print their media in-house. With excess printing capacity, he solicited other printing business, transforming the business into the commercial printing company now known as Park Printing House, Ltd. The printing company was his life-long passion. John had a passion for life and had many interests. He acquired old cars, mostly Model A's, and enjoyed tinkering with them. One year he drove a Model A to the Grand Tetons and back without mishap. He also collected and restored old Farmall tractors. He built a barn (similar to the famous Mormon Row barn in the Tetons) and used it to store his tractors and hay for Jean's sheep. He also hosted two of his class reunions in the barn. He spent two years restoring an old wooden Chicago & North Western caboose that was built in 1915. His conductor grandfather, father, and brother may have all spent some time riding in that caboose so it was very meaningful to him. John was an ardent supporter of the UW Marching Band all his life, supporting their fundraising efforts and helping with the Varsity Band Spring Concert. He enjoyed watching the band practice and knew many of the staff and kids. His love of the Navy never diminished and he supported it in many ways. He was a proud member of the Navy League. In the 90s, one dream came true; he made two short cruises in the Pacific on the super carrier USS Kitty Hawk CV-63. He never imagined such a thing could happen and it was one of the important events in his life. He was also invited to spend a day cruise on the Great Lakes aboard the frigate USS Oliver Hazard Perry FFG-7 and was a guest at the change of command ceremony. John had a wide circle of friends and was involved in too many things to mention here. He always had something going. He had a great trip through life and took a lot of people along for the ride. He is survived by his wife, Jean Dudley Bass; their two children, Roger (Rebecca) Bass and Amy (Chris) Armstrong; and three wonderful grandchildren, Sam Bass, and Molly and Bailey Armstrong. He is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Patricia (Jerry) Edgar of West Bend and their children, James, Jane, Jay, Jennifer, Jerry, John, and Julie, Roberta Stockton of New Berlin and her children, Linda, Louise, Mark and Michael, Charles (Linda) Bass of Johnson Creek and their children David, Dianna and Lisa, Jerry (Kay) Bass of Verona and their children, Julie and Tom, Tom (Debbie Dudley) Bass of Verona and their children, Greg and John, and Christine (David) Kilps of Verona and their children, Andrew, Laura and Tom. He is preceded in death by his mother and father; nephew, Jeffrey Dudley Bass; and brother-in-law, Richard Stockton. | 52211 | Wisconsin State Journal, Madison, Sunday, May 13, 2012 Kathleen Bass Roys MAZOMANIE - Kathy Roys (Bass) of Mazomanie, died on Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at home, surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Richland Center on Sept. 12, 1957, the daughter of Robert and Donna (Lyon) Bass. She attended Wisconsin Heights High School, and then vocational school in Fenimore. Later she graduated with her Accounting Degree from MATC in 2000. She enjoyed waitressing all through life. Most recently, she was employed at Madison Credit Union from 1996 to 2010. Kathy's most precious treasures were her family. She loved her grandchildren so much. She took them on walks through the woods, camping, pretend fires, swimming, and had lots of fun playing dress-up. Her camera was always within arm's reach. It was annoying at times, but her thousands of pictures tell so many stories. Florida was a special place to her. She loved the sandy beaches, collecting seashells, and creating memories. Every memory was a special memory. She enjoyed gardening and just being outdoors. Kathy was also an over-comer of many obstacles throughout life, but always strived to do better. Happy Mother's Day Mom, we love you bunches and bunches and bunches and even more than that. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Donna (Lyon) Bass; her children, Melissa (Thornton) Wheeler (Matt Wheeler), Evelyn (Thornton) Gust (David Gust), Amy (Thornton) Andreas (Josh Andreas); six grandchildren, Oceona Wolf, Willow Gust, Dominik Miller, John Andreas, Brianna Andreas and Abigail Wheeler; her other half, Jim Roys; two brothers, Ric (Lani Rochon) Bass and Mike (Dee) Bass; and two nephews, Jake Bass and Tyler Bass. Kathy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Howard and Evelyn Lyon and Clifford and Beatrice Bass. A Funeral Service will be held at NEW HEIGHTS LUTHERAN CHURCH, Mazomanie, at 3 p.m. on Monday, May 14, 2012. Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until the time of service at the church. Dorothy was born on June 27, 1916, to Ansel and Elsie (Cobb) Atwater in Barron, Wis. She graduated from Rosendale High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Clifford Bass, on July 10, 1938, in Ripon. They moved to Dallas, Wis., in 1940, and lived there until moving to DeForest in 1968. Dorothy was very active in the Dallas Methodist Church, directing the choir and teaching Sunday and Bible School. She was an avid golfer and a great homemaker - her chocolate chip cookies were known as the best ever! Upon moving to DeForest, Dorothy became the secretary to the high school principal and an active member of the United Church of Christ. Survivors include her three children, Jerry (Ellie) Bass of Port Orange, Fla., Pat (Bob) Bussan of Fort Myers, Fla., and Steve (Kathy) Bass of Madison; six grandchildren, Kristi, Tricia, Stephanie, Jason, Melissa, and Angie; 10 great-grandchildren, Brandon, Bryant, Kelsi, Sarah, Danielle, Lexi, Camille, Kate, Alissa and Eden; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nancy (Allison) English of Merrill; as well as many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 62 years, Clifford; her brother, Don Atwater; sisters, Marge Lawson and Mary Gloyd; and great-granddaughter Briana Wegman. Baas, for many years a resident of Madison, died at his home in Milwaukee Monday afternoon at 2:30, of bowel trouble, after a week's illness. He was 42 years of age. His remains were brought here for burial today. The funeral will take place from the home of his mother, Mrs. Sophia Baas, 923 Jenifer street, at 1 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Mr. Baas was born in Milwaukee, April 28, 1853, and lived there till he was 12 years old, when he came to Madison with the family. He attended the city schools and high school. About twenty years ago he was married to Miss Carrie Showers, who with their one son, Arthur, now 18 years of age, survives him. Mrs. and Mrs. Baas conducted a hotel in Madison for several years and seven years ago went to Milwaukee, where they ran the Madison house, one block from the Union depot. The news of his deaths is a great surprise to Madison friends, who did not know he was ill. His brother, Stephen C. Baas, received a telegram Monday morning bringing the first information of his sickness, and was with him and hour before he died. He also leaves a sister in this city. She was born on January 28, 1929, in Madison, Wis. to Roger Graydon Bass and Alva Nora (Anderson) Bass. She was the oldest of seven children. She met third-year UW law student Jerry Allen Edgar in 1953 while working as a bookkeeper at Western Union. They were married on June 20, 1954, at Glenwood Moravian Church in Madison, Wis. They lived in Belmont, Wis., where Jerry started his law career. All seven children were born at the hospital in Platteville: Jerry (Esther) Edgar Jr., Shickley, Neb.; James (Karen Jost) Edgar, Milwaukee; Jane (James Thompson) Edgar, West Milwaukee; Jennifer (Stephen) Miller, Allen, Tex.; Julie (Christopher) Houg, Sauk City; John (Julia) Edgar, Sun Prairie; and Jay (Joshua Feyen) Edgar, Madison. Raising seven children can be a daunting prospect, but Patricia saw to it that dinner was on the table every night at 6 p.m. sharp, plus having a roast for Sunday dinner after playing organ at two church services. She efficiently ran the household and tracked everyone's schedules in her head. She sewed the girls' dresses and knitted sweaters, hats, and mittens for her family. She still made time to knit afghans for weddings and babies in her extended family, and made numerous craft projects for Christmas decorations. She took great pride in making the children's Halloween costumes, which often won first place at the Halloween parties in Belmont. She attended schools in Reedsburg and Madison, graduating in 1946 from Madison West High School. A mostly self-taught musician, she enjoyed many years as church organist at Peace Lutheran in Belmont and West Middleton Lutheran Church in rural Middleton. She served as organist and choir director at WMLC from 1969 to 1977 and was a member of the Choristers Guild. In the 1970s, she helped found then-named Madison Boys Choir. She served as interim organist at many churches in her later career. She also worked as Jerry's paralegal in his private practice. She enjoyed playing many card and board games with family and friends. She and Jerry were both very proud to achieve Life Master ranking in the American Contract Bridge League. While she wasn't a sports fan, watching the annual WIAA state boys basketball tournament was a must. Patty is survived by her children; grandchildren Maris (fiance Ravi Patel), Grace and Madeline (Eric Ostrowski) Edgar; Danielle and Michael Brooks; Robert (Nga Tran) and Ben (Gabriella McClure) Miller; Zelia, Lily and Chloe Edgar; Jamie Thompson; and great-granddaughters Melanie Brooks, and Naomi and Delilah Miller. Also surviving are her sister Roberta Stockton, brothers Gerald (Kay) Bass and Thomas (Deborah) Bass; sisters-in-law Linda Bass and Jean Bass; and Jerry's sister, Mary Geiger, Seattle, Wash; and her baby sister and diligent caretaker Christine (David) Kilps. A huge family of nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Nothing brought Patricia more pleasure than family gatherings, and leading them in singing during holiday gatherings. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Edgar Sr., on May 28, 2019. She also was preceded by her parents, who died in a car crash in October 1971. The pain of that sudden loss was always with her. She also was preceded by her beloved brothers John Bass and Charles Bass, brother-in-law Richard Stockton, and nephew Jeffrey Bass. Donna was born in Omaha, Neb., on Aug. 22, 1934, daughter of Howard and Evelyn (Reineccius - Altschuler) Lyon. In 1940 her family moved to Wisconsin. She graduated from Fennimore High School in 1952. Donna married Robert Bass on Sept. 7, 1952. They spent some time in Fennimore and Richland Center before moving to Mazomanie in 1958. Donna worked for Grabers from 1963 to 1979 and then for the UW Physical plant from 1979 to 1994 when she retired. After retirement she worked part time in the bakery of Mazo Market for a few years. She was the pillar of our family and took very good care of her husband, Bob. Donna is survived by her husband, Robert Bass "Buzz"; her two sons, Richard Bass (Lani Rochon) and Michael (Dee) Bass of Mazomanie; five grandchildren, Melissa (Matt) Wheeler, Evelyn Gust, Amy (Josh) Andreas, Jacob (Faith Greene) Bass, and Terrance (Kara) Bass; eight great-grandchildren, Oceona, Brianna, Dominik, John, Abigail, Willow, and Emmaline; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack (Charleene) Bass of California and Jannie (Dick) Adams of Dickyville, Wis.; as well as many distant relatives and many friends. Rosemary was born on April 10, 1926, in Evanston, Ill., to Peter J. Madsen and Estelle Madsen (nee Sauter). She was the eldest of five children. She was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard; and sisters, Patricia and Karen. She is survived by her sister, Rita of Seattle, Wash. She was married to her husband Bernard for over 60 years who preceded her in death. She grew up in Park Ridge, Ill. and attended Maine Township High School. Rosemary worked at the University of Wisconsin Union for 32 years, and retired as the Assistant Food Production Manager at the Union. She enjoyed her contact with students and after retiring from the Union worked part-time at The Esquire as a hostess. Rosemary was active in many organizations including, The Food Service Executives Association (FSEA) the Beta Zeta Service sorority and the Northside Senior Coalition. While at FSEA she was a consultant to the military. In order to travel with the military, she needed a military title and was named an honorary One Star General with a security detail. She traveled throughout Asia, the US and the Caribbean evaluating their food production. She was a member for 38 years of the ESA Beta Zeta sorority and was elected to various executive positions including State and Chapter President. As a member of the executive team, she was a fundraiser for St. Jude Children's Hospital. She was a founding member of the Northside Senior Coalition and was involved in securing funds for a swimming pool at Warner Park as well as organizing social activities. She was a Badger Football fan and held season tickets for over 50 years. On home Football Saturdays she could always be found at Camp Randall. She was on a women's bowling league for many years. As a sports enthusiast, she enjoyed meeting people and made friends easily. She was an original participant in a UW Department of Medicine research study on the effects of exercise on bone density. When the study completed, she and other participants decided to continue to fund the group's exercise program. She was always energetic and young at heart, in the course of her career and in her volunteer work, she touched many lives. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Hersch (John) of Cleveland Hts., Ohio, Sandra Bass, Chicago, Ill., and Catherine Bass of Lake Forest, Calif. She is also survived by two granddaughters, Anne Hersch (Michael Iswalt) of El Cerrito, Calif., and Carolyn Hersch of Chicago, Ill. The family would like to thank the staff at Aster Memory Care and Agrace Hospice for their dedicated care. We also acknowledge Dr. Lawrence Ozers and the staff at the Dean Medical Group for their years of providing care. We especially thank her devoted caregiver, friend and companion Rose Bongiovani. Gawler Historic Building: Railway/Family Hotel As the name suggests, the Railway Family Hotel's history dates back to the completion of the Adelaide to Gawler railway line and the construction of the Gawler Railway Station in 1857. The hotel was built in that year by Edward Martin and the first license granted to William Bassett, who owned much of the land in Gawler West, which was originally laid out as Bassett Town subdivision. The Advertiser, Adelaide, South Australia Tuesday, 13 Apr 1909 The oldest resident of Gawler and colonist of 69 years standing, Mr. William Bassett, sen., died at his residence, Bassett Town, on Monday morning. The deceased, who was born at Altarnum, Five Lanes, Cornwall, early in the year 1833, had been gradually failing for some time past, and his death was not unexpected. Mr. Bassett, accompanied by his parents and a sister, arrived in South Australia in 1840, in the sailing vessel "Java". The family resided in Adelaide, and for the first five years the deceased attended Cawthorne's Grammar School. In 1945 he removed to Gawler, where his father entered into farming pursuits, and there he continued to reside up to the time of his death. He was of a retiring disposition and a great reader. What he read was always of the best, and his memory was so retentive that he could, at will, recite long passages from Dickens and the works of Shakespeare. At the time of his decease Mr. Bassett was the oldest resident of Gawler, having resided there for a period of over 64 years. Jewett and they have enjoyed 53 years of marriage. Helen was employed by the Millapore Corporation in Jaffrey, NH for a number of years before retiring in 1993. She previously had worked for Orange Shoe Co., the former J.F. McElwain Co. in Athol, as well as the L. S. Starrett Co. Survivors include her loving husband, Herbert Jewett of Athol; daughters, Pamela A. Lamere of Athol and Rose Marie Karabelas of Lynn; grandsons, Spiros Karabelas and Mark Karabelas both of Lynn, Michael Lamere, Jedidiah Jewett, Joseph Thibeauit, Daniel Bowers, and Mark Clark Jr., all of Athol, and David Price of Orange; a granddaughter, Nina Marie Soares of Salem; great grandchildren, Kendra Karabelas, Sofie Karabelas, Alex Karabelas and Noah Karabelas, all of Lynn; and several nephews and nieces. He was born on December 31, 1934 in Pulaski and was 86 years old. Harold, along with his wife Sara, were committed to serving Giles County in many capacities. Their devotion to sharing their love to so many families in times of need was evident in their presence and outpouring of support. Harold graduated from Giles County High School (Class of 1953), Martin Methodist College (1955), Middle Tennessee State University (BS 1957 & MA 1962), additional graduate study at George Peabody College for Teachers (1966-1967). He graduated from American Bankers Association's Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University and American Bankers Association's Graduate School of Human Resources Management at University of Colorado. Harold taught mathematics at Bodenham High School, Athens College, Martin Methodist College, Richland High School. He served as Academic Dean and as Registrar and was founding sponsor of Gamma Beta Phi Society while at Martin Methodist College. He was employed at First National Bank of Pulaski 1978-2003; originally hired as bank auditor, retired as Vice-President and member of Executive Management Team and Secretary/Treasurer of First Pulaski National Corporation; was founding coordinator of the First National Bank Student Advisory Board; named Employee of the Year, 1983. Barbie graduated from Mississippi College in 1993 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mass Communications. She received her Master of Science degree from Mississippi State University with concentration in Broadcast Meteorology in 1995. Barbie is WLBT's first Chief Meteorologist in the station's 50-year history and has been granted the Seal of Approval from the American Meteorological Society. She has been given the "Best Weathercast" award by the Associated Press for the last two years. Barbie won 2000 Mrs. Mississippi International title. At the Mrs. International pageant, she was named a semi-finalist in the Top 15 as she competed against women from all over the world. A lifelong resident of Niles, Melanie was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and friend whose warmth, generosity and love for others left a lasting mark on all who knew her. As a child, she discovered her passion for singing at The Church of God, an art she carried with her through her school years as a member of the choir and the Belles and Beaux at her high school. After college, Melanie worked for many years at Weathertite Windows, where she became actively involved in fundraising for the Rich Center for Autism, a cause close to her heart. She later brought her talents and work ethic to Durst Roofing and Siding. Above all, Melanie?s greatest joy came from her family, she cherished her time with them and took great pride in being both an aunt and a special part of her nieces? and nephews? lives. Melanie is survived by her loving parents, Richard and Cathy Bassett of Niles; her brothers, Richard (Trishia) Bassett, Jr., of Niles, Stephen Bassett (Jaclyn Sears) of McDonald and Michael (Cieleste) Bassett of Niles. She was a beloved aunt to, Richard Bassett, III, Franklin Bassett, Kathryn Bassett and a special aunt to, Preston, Landon, Bailey, Jesse and Alexis. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Frank and Carolyn Bassett, Jr.; her maternal grandparents, Betty Shea Barnes, Timothy Shea and her uncle, Robert Bassett. Melanie?s bright spirit, compassion and unwavering love for her family and community will be deeply missed and forever remembered. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, from 4:00 ? 6:00 p.m., at Wm Nicholas Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 614 Warren Road in Niles, Ohio. | 52250 | Wm. S. Bass, 56, Succumbs In Girardeau Funeral services for William S. Bass, 56 years old, who died early Sunday morning from acute indigestion at his residence at 215 Bellevue street, were to be held this afternoon at the Fairview church near Advance. The body was removed there from the Walther Funeral Home just before noon. Rev. L. Blackburn, pastor of the General Baptist church, was to conduct the services. Bass had been ill for about a year and recently suffered a relapse. He moved to Cape Girardeau from Delta 10 years ago, where he was engaged in farming most of his life. Since moving to this city he had been employed by the McGeorge and Regenhardt construction companies. Besides his widow, Bass is survived by a son, Orvel, two step-sons, Robert and Luther Tilley; and a daughter, Mrs. Artie London, all of Cape Girardeau.
