A lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was employed by Kellwood Manufacturing for 32 years and retired from Cransten Print Works following 11 years of service. She attended North Asheville Baptist Church. Mrs. Bassett was the daughter of the late Charles and Grace Garland Robertson. She was also preceded in death by three sisters: Katherine, Libby, and Jo Ann; and two brothers: Charles and Walter. Surviving are her husband of 56 years, Roy Bassett; children: Charles Bassett and wife Brenda, and Charlene Redmond and husband Jimmy; grandchildren: Atea, Alyssa, and Alexis; great-grandchildren: Kaycen, Keithan, and Ace; sisters: Betty, Patricia and Elaine; brothers: Jimmy, Gary, and Mike; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Monday in the chapel of Anders-Rice Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jimmy Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Elk Mountain Cemetery. Angie was born on December 1st, 1964 in Clinton, TN to the late Curtis and Marvell Webber. Angie spent most of her time caring for her grandsons and loved being "Nana". She enjoyed reading, being creative, and was never afraid to have a conversation with anyone. In addition to her parents, Angie is preceded in death by her ex- husband; Terry Bass, and brother; Gary Webber. She is survived by her children; daughter Lindsay Bass and grandsons Jayden and Jaxon Elmore, daughter Bridget Coker and husband Jacob Coker, and son; Brandon Bass. Her brother; Perry Webber, and sisters; Carole Rhyne, and Lisa Osterhout. Angie also leaves behind many nephews and nieces, and longtime friend Becky Webber. | 52253 | Woodhaven Funeral Home and Memorial Garden Elgin Keith Bass June 3, 2022 Elgin Keith Bass, 86, of Andersonville, TN, died peacefully on Friday, June 03, 2022 at Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge from a sudden illness. Elgin is preceded in death by his mother & father, Leedie & Phil Bass, his seven brothers and sisters, and several nephews. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Judy Ridenour Raby Bass; four children, Diane (Doug) Roy of Knoxville, Steven Bass of Knoxville, Maylene (Wayne) Anderson of Jacksboro, and Freda Hackney of Clinton; six grandchildren, Harlee (Matt) Paul, Jessica (Elijah) Shope, Casey Shope, Brandon (Alexis) Roy, Trevor (Sierra) Ledbetter, and Megan (Matt) Roy; five great-grandchildren; Carson (9), Natalee (8 months), Conner (12), Ryan (5), and Bristol (due in July); sister-in-law Retha Bass; many nieces and nephews. Elgin also had a long list of extended family and friend, whom he cherished. Elgin was born on Sunday, March 22, 1936 and raised in Oliver Springs, TN. He was a heavy equipment operator all his life in local strip mines and other development projects around the area. He was very active, enjoying camping for many years, worked on projects with his wife on their craft business and loved gardening. Elgin enjoyed strong Christian faith, was quoted saying, ?I?m a winner either way?, when informed of his illness and was ready to go to his Eternal home. Graveside service will be at 1pm on Thursday, June 09, 2022 at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens in Claxton, TN. Lee Struck and Leo Elliott will officiate. Woodhaven Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens are in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers are Ivan Bass, Albert Bass, Brandon Roy, Trevor Ledbetter, Aaron Bass, Matt Paul and Matt Moro. The family would like to thank all the friends and family who have supported us during this trying time and especially thankful to the staff of Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge for their professional and extremely sympathetic care of Elgin and everyone who visited him. He was born in Nash County to the late Willard and Lola Murray Bass. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Bass, and his granddaughter, Angel Robinson. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her two sons: Todd and Chad Greene;, her siblings: Talmadge Bass Jr., and Shirley Huffstetler, as well as her sister in law Linda Bass. Peggy was known for her sense of humor and her love for her entire family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother and will be missed dearly. She was a lady of strong faith and served her Lord for many years at Community Pentecostal Center in Stanley. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 62 years Butch Greene; her daughter Rhonda Slifer (Mark), her brother Roger Bass (Shirley), her grandchildren: Mallory Kirkland (Taylor), and Caleb Greene; as well as her great grandchildren: Miller Kirkland and Coleson Skinner. February 22, 2019 Even though the past few years were difficult, due to health issues, Darlene was a trooper. She fought and stayed positive; however, she was called home to be with her Lord & Savior, Jesus Christ on Friday, February 22, 2019. All who knew her, knew of her generosity, as she had a difficult time saying no to those in need. From charitable organizations like St. Jude or Wounded Warriors to family members, she looked for the best in others. Her only down side was her ability to argue for what she believed in and boy were those conversations feisty. She leaves a void in our hearts and will be greatly missed. Born in Sumter, South Carolina, on November 10, 1971, she was a daughter of Nancy Whieldon Peeples and the late Robert Edward Gayl Bonnie graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor's Degree in Business, and worked for Avaya Technologies. She enjoyed attending Carolina football games, going to the beach, reading, spending time with her family and friends and the occasional pampering. Bonnie had a love for animals and helping others. She dearly loved her family and friends. She will be forever in our hearts and dearly missed. Rest in peace now. Bonnie is survived by her husband, Ben Bass, III of Lexington; her mother, Nancy Peeples of Irmo; sisters, Natalie (Michael) Carter of Lexington, and Meghan Peeples of Irmo; aunt, Jane Whieldon of Longs; nephew, Grayham Carter; niece, Emily Grace Carter; father-in-law, Ben Bass Jr.; mother-in-law, Carol Ann Bass; sister-in-law, Jennifer Walling. Bass will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 2, 2022 at the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodridge Memorial Park, 138 Corley Mill Road, Lexington, SC 29072. Reverend Frank T. Seignious, III will officiate. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service at the Mausoleum Chapel. | 52260 | Woodrow (Bink) and Thelma (Bassett) Pearman F326 Thelma was born in Kearney, Nebraska October 16, 1922 to Frank and Maude Bassett and grew up in southwest Hooker County with her two sisters, Dorothy 1921 and Jean 1928 and a brother Ray 1918. They lived in the same area until 1949 when they moved a short distance east. Thelma attended school in the Eclipse School (near Hamonda) the first 2 years then to the Ballard School to the east except for 2 years she attended school in Mullen. The Bassett children rode horseback to school, also to pick up their mail three times a week at the school. Thelma started to high school in 1937 but times were hard so she and Dorothy dropped out in December staying out the remainder of that year and all of the next. They then started again in 1939 and Dorothy graduated in 1941 with Thelma graduating in 1943 from Tryon where she transferred the last few months of her senior year. She met Bink in 1940 and they dated until he went to the Army in March 1942, he came home on furlough in November 1942 and they were married in hyannis in a double ceremony with Bud Edelman and Marjorie David. Bink returned to the Army and Thelma went to school and graduated. She spent the summer in Gering, Nebraska with Arthur and Frances Comstock, uncle and aunt and her cousin Leola. She applied for a rural school in southwest Scotts Bluff County and remained there to teach. Bink went overseas to Germany in the early spring of 1944 and when school was out Thelma returned to Mullen. She applied for a school in Hooker County and taught the McPherson School staying with Ray and Myrlte Reigle in 1944-'45. When school was out she went to Hastings where her mother and sister Jean were working in a defense plant. The war ended in August 1945 and they returned to Mullen. Thelma taught the Furrow School that fall and she and Jean lived in a trailer near the school. Bink returned home from Germany in October and he joined them at the trailer. Thelma resigned at Christmas time (by preagreement with the school board) and they moved to the A.J. Gragg place where they had employment. Jean continued to stay with them. Wilson Ray was born in August 1946 and 1949, Bink and Thelma moved from Graggs and leased the Ireton land from Frank Bassett. They lived there for 1 year and then went back to Graggs in 1950. Franklin Don was born in October 1951. They bought the E.R. Sexton property 3 1/2 miles south of Mullen in 1952 and moved there in May 1953 to enable Ray to attend school. A school bus, driven by Jack Maire, picked the boys up all through their school years. In 1960 or '61 Thelma began working as a "domestic engineer" 3 to 5 days a week and continued for about 15 years. When the packing plant opened up south of Mullen, she did their laundry for a time. In 1960 Bink began working of the Cherry County Road Department and continued until 1985. During this time Thelma took care of the cattle and most of the chores around the place. Ray graduated from high school in 1965 and went into the Navy for four yaers. Don graduated from high school in 1970 and entered VecTech at Milford to study Auto Mechanics in 1971. Ray also entered just one school quarter after Don. Don graduated in June 1972 and Ray in October 1972. Don returned to Mullen to work and Ray went to Gothenburg to work in a garage. Ray was married to Lana Olson in June 1972 and Don married Susan Hansen in May 1975. Angela Dawn was born to Ray and Lana June 5, 1976, Riley James December 4, 1980 and Traci Jo October 4, 1983. Ray and Lana moved from Gothenburg to Arnold in 1979 and purchased a garage. Don and Sue built a house near Bink and Thelma's in 1976. Rae Ann was born to them on July 16, 1981 and Melissa Sue, November 30, 1986. Bink had open heart surgery in August 1986 and has enjoyed good health since. Bink and Thelma buy a few calves each fall and sell them as yearlings the following fall. In 1987 the steers weighed and average 1036 pounds without any grain, a goal they have been seeking for sometime. Survivors include one daughter, Jeanne Pitre Soileau of New Iberia, LA.; one son Woodrow Lee Pitre and his wife, Janice of Inverness, FL.; five grandchildren, Ida Eve Heckenbach, Richard Anthony Soileau, Virginia Lee Soileau, Virginia V. Roberge and Eric Pitre; five great grandchildren, Monique Eve Soileau, Mason Chase Soileau, Hannah Vossen, Leyla Gentil and Guillaume Gentil; and one sister, Marie A. Pitre. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Bassett Pitre; his second wife, Joyce Gilmore Pitre; his parents, Louis Emile and Anna Sylvia Maunoir Pitre; and his siblings. A native of St. James, Louisiana and resident of Lafayette for over 62 years, Mr. Pitre was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. He was an outgoing optimistic man who worked as a salesman most of his life. His first loves in life were his family whom he enjoyed spending time with. Mr. Pitre also enjoyed playing bouree' and golf in his spare time. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. | 52262 | Woodson and Bee Bassett moved to Fayetteville, Washington County, Arkansas in 1936. HISTORY OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, ARKANSAS Shilo Museum 1989 Article by Marynm Shaw Bassett Woodson W. Bassett, Sr. Woodson William Bassett, Sr., was born April 24, 1880 in Iantha, Missouri. On January 23, 1919, he married Bertha (Bee) Irene Knerr, born August 19, 1893 in Allerton, Iowa, the daughter of George Frederick and Ida Corbett Knerr of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Woodson and Bee had four children - Betty Jane, born January 8, 1920, Dorothy Sue born February 20, 1921, Trixie Bee born October 30, 1922 and Woodson William, Jr., born November 7, 1926. The family moved to Fayetteville in 1936. Woodson's ancesters originated in Virginia and migrated to Kentucky. His grandfather, Thomas Bassett, moved westward to Clay County, Illinois in the mid 1800's. He was a veteran of the Mexican War. When he returned from the war, he became a wagon master, guiding settlers and herding cattle to California. His first trip out and back took two years. He attempted a second trip by boat to establish a homestead for this family. He sailed from New York around the "Big Horn" to the Isthmus of Panama where he "took a fever" and died. Thomas was married to Nancy Ann Smith. They had three children - John Wesley, a teacher, Sarah Ann and Nathaniel. Nathaniel "Than" Bassett was born March 18, 1854 in Clay County, Illinois. He married Elma Jane Williams, born in 1858. They went even farther west to Iantha, Missouri. They had three children: William Oscar, Woodson William and a daughter, Irkle Bell. Jane died when her youngest child was but two years of age. "Than" then married Ann Nance. They had one son, James D. (Jim) Bassett. A measles epidemic in 1901 caused the death of Irkle Bell. She was only seventeen. "Than" homesteaded a two-hundred acre farm in Haines Grove, Missouri. Editor of the Lamar Democrat often referred to him as the democratic leader of Barton County - a political avocation, all three of his sons and one great-grandson would inherit. Both Woodson and Oscar served as Clerks of Barton County, and Jim spent a major portion of his life as elected sheriff of Barton County. Oscar moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he was elected to two terms as County Commissioner. He was joined there in the early 1900s by Woodson and they became successful, even quite wealthy, in the independent oil and gas leasing business. However, the 1929 market crash and ensuing depression swept their fortunes away and forced them to emotionally and economically restructure their lives. Oscar died of "a heart ailment" in 1934 and his family moved to California. In 1935, Jim witnessed the bizarre death of his nineteen year-old son, Maurice, who was a passenger in a monoplane which crashed near his father's office on the downtown square of Lamar, Missouri. Family tragedies, economic depression and the pressing need to provide for and educatte their children, were all factors which motivated Woodson and Bee to move their family to Fayetteville in 1936. They could be near Bee's family and near a state university. All their children would eventually attend the University of Arkansas. Woodson opened an office on the Fayetteville square and sold insurance and real estate and made appraisals for the Home Loan Bank. When their youngest child entered the University of Arkansas, Bee became an assistant to the registrar there, handling all World War II student veteran's affairs. Woodson died December 6, 1964 and Bee, on September 7, 1971. Both are buried at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Fayetteville, Arkansas. The only remaining males in the Bassett geneological lineage of Thomas, Nathaniel and Woodson W. Bassett, Sr. are Woodson W. (Bill) Bassett Jr. and his two sons. Bill is the senior member of the Bassett Law Firm, 221 North College Avenue, Fayetteville, Arkansas. On December 16, 1950, he married Marynm Shaw of Homer, Louisiana. They have three children: Woodson William (Woody) Bassett, III, born November 3, 1951 in Monroe, Louisiana; Beverly Marynm Bassett, born May 29, 1953 and Tod Corbett Bassett, born September 8, 1955 - both in Fayetteville, Arkansas. All are attorneys. Woody and Tod are members of the Bassett Law Firm. Woody is charman of the Washington County Democratic Party. Tod is married to the former Mary Helen Sugg of Fayetteville. Beverly was a member of the Mitchell Law Firm of Little Rock, Arkansas until her appointment by Governor Bill Clinton as the Securities Commissioner for the State of Arkansas - first woman to hold this position in Arkansas. Marynm Shaw graduated from Northwestern State College in Natchitoches, Louisiana, with a Bachelor of Science degree. The Northwest Arkansas Times January 13, 2006 Woodson W. Bassett Woodson W. Bassett Jr., 79, of Fayetteville died January 10, 2006, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born November 7, 1926 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, to Woodson W. Bassett Sr. and Bee Knerr Bassett. Known to all as "Bill" he grew up and lived most of his life in his beloved Fayetteville, where he raised his family and practiced law for 43 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Betty Williams. He is survived by his loving wife and soul mate of 55 years, Marynm Shaw Bassett, whom he married on December 16, 1950. He is also survived by one daughter, Beverly Bassett Schaffer and her husband, Archie Schaffer III of Fayetteville; two sons, Woody Bassett of Fayetteville and Tod Bassett and his wife, Mary Sugg Bassett also of Fayetteville; two grandchildren, Eliot Shaw Schaffer and Corbett Clayton Bassett ; two sisters, Dorothy B. Edwards of Mountain Home, Arkansas, and Trixie Bassett Finn of Dermott, Arkansas; one brother-in-law, John N. Shaw and his wife, Marion of DeRidder, Louisiana; and five nephews and three nieces. He received his education in the Fayetteville public schools and later at the University of Arkansas, where he graduated from the School of Law in 1949. After 13 years of work in the insurance field, he embarked on a legal career and began practicing law in 1962 when he joined the firm of Dickson, Putman, Millwee and Davis, which in later years became known as Putman, Davis, Bassett, Cox and Wright. In October of 1981, he joined his two sons to establish and build the Bassett Law Firm, where he was senior partner, mentor and leader until his death. He was greatly admired and respected by all those with whom he worked at the law firm. He set a fine example for other lawyers and was a teacher and an inspiration to many young lawyers over the years. He was widely recognized as an extraordinary trial lawyer, as evidenced by his induction into the American College of Trial Lawyers. He was at his best in the courtroom. His life, both personal and professional, was marked by much success and many accomplishments, but at his request, they will not be recited. To use his words, "It will suffice to say I grew up hard but married well, fathered three good children, and with little natural talent, worked very hard and ethically to succeed as a lawyer. I lived the best way I knew how and had a good and long life. My wife, Marynm, and my three children are my epitaph, making it important that I lived at all." He attempted a second trip by boat to establish a homestead for this family. He sailed from New York around the "Big Horn" to the Isthmus of Panama where he "took a fever" and died. Thomas was married to Nancy Ann Smith. They had three children - John Wesley, a teacher, Sarah Ann and Nathaniel. Nathaniel "Than" Bassett was born March 18, 1854 in Clay County, Illinois. He married Elma Jane Williams, born in 1858. They went even farther west to Iantha, Missouri. They had three children: William Oscar, Woodson William and a daughter, Irkle Bell. Jane died when her youngest child was but two years of age. "Than" then married Ann Nance. They had one son, James D. (Jim) Bassett. A measles epidemic in 1901 caused the death of Irkle Bell. She was only seventeen. "Than" homesteaded a two-hundred acre farm in Haines Grove, Missouri. Editor of the Lamar Democrat often referred to him as the democratic leader of Barton County - a political avocation, all three of his sons and one great-grandson would inherit. Both Woodson and Oscar served as Clerks of Barton County, and Jim spent a major portion of his life as elected sheriff of Barton County. Oscar moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma where he was elected to two terms as County Commissioner. He was joined there in the early 1900s by Woodson and they became successful, even quite wealthy, in the independent oil and gas leasing business. However, the 1929 market crash and ensuing depression swept their fortunes away and forced them to emotionally and economically restructure their lives. Oscar died of "a heart ailment" in 1934 and his family moved to California. In 1935, Jim witnessed the bizarre death of his nineteen year-old son, Maurice, who was a passenger in a monoplane which crashed near his father's office on the downtown square of Lamar, Missouri. Family tragedies, economic depression and the pressing need to provide for and educatte their children, were all factors which motivated Woodson and Bee to move their family to Fayetteville in 1936. They could be near Bee's family and near a state university. All their children would eventually attend the University of Arkansas. Woodson opened an office on the Fayetteville square and sold insurance and real estate and made appraisals for the Home Loan Bank. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, February 9, 2015 in the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Shannon Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. The family will receive friends at 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm Sunday, February 8, 2015 at the funeral home. Michael Wesley Bassett was born on July 21, 1949 to Wesley James and Vera Margaret (Geddes) Bassett in Woodward, Oklahoma. Mike attended school in Woodward and graduated from Woodward High School with the class of 1967. He then attended Okmulgee Tech. Mike began his career in the oilfield working for Dowell. During his career he worked for various oilfield companies, working his way up to become a Drilling Completion Consultant. In 1983, Mike began dating Cindy (Pilcher) Harrison, and in 1994 Mike and Cindy were married in Red River, New Mexico. Mike and Cindy made their home south of Woodward. Upon marrying Cindy, Mike inherited two step-sons, Chad and Jason Harrison, which he thought of as his own. In 1995, Mike bought a couple longhorn cows and calves. Since then his herd has grown to over 30 animals. Mike enjoyed nothing more than going out to feed his longhorns and would sometimes sit there for hours just watching them. Mike's other passion was fishing. He loved to go to Hot Springs, Arkansas to go striper fishing. Mike even bought a condo so he could go over whenever he wanted to get away. His greatest joy were his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he loved to spoil them any way he could. He loved to go watch them play in their various sports. Mike was anxiously awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandson. Mike is survived by his wife Cindy of the home; two step-sons, Chad Harrison and wife Michelle of Guymon; Jason Harrison and wife Karen of Woodward; one brother, Milt Bassett and wife Mary Jane of Edmond; one sister, Marilyn Brown of Amarillo, Texas; grandchildren, Brooke Harrison and fianc Tom Ward; Morgan Wadsworth and husband Chance; Madison Harrison; Michael Morgan; Casie Morgan; Taylor Harrison; Hunter Harrison; great-grandchildren, Aliyah and Ava; two nieces, Candyce Myers and husband Jeff; Carma Reagan and husband Jason; one nephew, Zac Brown and wife Erika; several great nieces and nephews; other family and friends. Bassett (1931 ? 2019) Picture included) Mary Kathryn Johnson Bassett, 87, of Richmond crossed over on February 15, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Walthall Johnson and Ogilvia Arrington Johnson of Bedford County, Virginia, and her loving husband, John Paul Bassett Sr., of Sharon, Connecticut. "Kitty" was born in Roanoke, Virginia on April 21, 1931 and lived in Bedford, Virginia where she attended Franklin School, a one room school in Bedford County. Her mother either took her to school in a horse and buggy or she had to walk four miles to Franklin School and back in the evening. By the early 1940's a bus picked up students and took them to Stewartsville School. Her family then moved to the family farm in Fincastle, Virginia where Kitty graduated from Fincastle High School. She attended Ferrum Junior College, where she was head cheerleader, and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1954 with a bachelor's degree in Home Economics. She was employed at the Virginia Tech extension service, and she met John who was a civil engineering student on the G.I. Bill. Kitty and John married in 1956 and stayed happily married for 61 years. They lived briefly in Staunton, Virginia where John worked for VDOT and in the early 1960's they moved to Richmond where they lived out their lives. In addition to raising four children, Kitty worked at Jack and Jill nursery school in Richmond, and then spent the majority of her career in retail furniture sales at Miller & Rhoads, Hecht's and Macy's . Kitty enjoyed spending time at the family farm in Fincastle Virginia, the outdoors, gardening with the neighborhood garden club, good furniture, and above all, spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, all of whom she has had a profound and enduring impact on. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and later the West End Assembly of God. Kitty is survived by her loving children Nancy, John Jr., William, and Susan Kish (Tom); and her beloved grandchildren Taylor, Catherine and Caroline Bassett, and Sarah Kish; her sister Alice J. Sweeney of Galax, Virginia; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Woody Funeral Home, 1771 Parham Road Richmond, VA, Saturday February 23, 2019 at 1 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Interment will immediately follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. Most of all, Paula enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her loving husband Stevens Bass, her two sons Jonathon and his wife Jacqueline Bass of Westfield, Seth and Brooke McKee-Bass of Neptune, her sister Betty June Feuchtwanger, and five beloved grandchildren Hannah, Benjamin, Sophie, Jonah, and Noa. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 9 at 11am at Agudath Achim Cemetery, West Bangs Avenue, Neptune. December 5, 2023 It is with heavy hearts; we share the sad news that Peter Bass of Ocean Twp, NJ passed away peacefully on 12/5/2023 surrounded by his family. Although Peter survived prostate cancer 6 years ago, unfortunately, just a few short months ago, we learned it had metastasized into his bones. Peter Bass was born February 18, 1936 to Harry and Estelle Bass, in Newark, NJ. He grew up with his brother Steven and sisters Karen and Marilyn in Plainfield. Peter was the Sports Editor of his High School yearbook, then attended and graduated from Syracuse University. He continued on to University of Virginia where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in Law. Afterwards, he came back to the Jersey shore and began practicing law in Freehold. In the summer of 1963, he met and fell in love with Ellen Rockoff. They were married in 1964 and had their children, Todd and Marlo. Peter loved coaching some of the sports teams his kids were on while also being an active member of Temple Beth Torah. He loved playing cards, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and in addition to reading, he was a huge sports fan. Peter's love of food led to his love of travel which he paired with his love of the theater. In addition to Broadway, Peter truly enjoyed all musicals and live concerts, that included a variety of musical genres. Over the last 10 years, Peter looked forward to being a "Snow Bird" by splitting his time between Florida and NJ. Peter is survived by Ellen Bass, his son Todd (Jessica) Bass and daughter Marlo Byrne. Peter was a beloved Grandfather to Abigail (a.k.a. Rowan) and Lucas Bass, along with Sabrina and Kyra Byrne. (Gow) Bessette, 95, formerly of Orange, died Wednesday, April 14, 2004 in Riverdale Gardens, West Springfield. Born in Holyoke, on Aug. 25, 1908, a daughter of William W. and Ellen (MacFarlane) Gow, she lived in South Hadley for many years where she assisted her husband in operating the Bessette Poultry Farm. A former member of the Grace Congregational Church of Christ, South Hadley, she enjoyed crocheting and needlepoint. She lived in Orange for several years before returning to the South Hadley area. Her husband, Wilfred O. Bessette, died in 1977, and a son, Wilfred F. Bessette, died in 1996. She leaves a daughter, Mary Ellen Adamson of South Hadley; a grandson, David Adamson of Belchertown; a granddaughter, Susan Kosier and a greatgranddaughter Melissa Kosior, both of South Hadley. Home Care Provider ORANGE - Mary Jewell (Bass) Horrocks, 70, of 50 Red Brook Lane, died Sunday evening, Nov. 9, 2003 at Athol Memorial Hospital. Born on Jan. 13, 1933 in Springfield, she was a daughter of Jay R. And May (Kibbe) Bass and went to grade school there before moving and graduating from Northampton High School in 1950. She later took her LPN course at the Westboro State Hospital. Before retiring, she had worked at New England Memorial, Bay State Medical, Quabbin Valley Healthcare of Athol, Baldwinville Nursing Home, and the Shrope Foundation, a children's rehabilitation hospital. While in Springfield, she also provided home care to people. A loving mother, she was always helping everyone. She enjoyed birds, working in her garden, making crafts, baking, and playing the piano. She moved to Orange in 1995 from Norfolk, CT and had previously lived in the area. She was a member of the Seventh - Day Adventist Church in Athol and had served as a Deaconess and on the Social Committee. Survivors include her sons Daniel Horrocks and Jonathan Horrocks, both of Torrington, CT; sisters, Lillian Baxter of Westhampton, her twin, June Nelson of Orange, and Shirley Fuller of Keene, NH; brothers, Russell Bass of Fuller, OR, and Leroy Bass of Washington Isle, WI; 17 nephews and nieces; and 31 grand nephews and nieces. He was born July 18, 1930 in Charlton, son of the late George and Ethel (Webb) Morang. He was predeceased by 8 brothers and 5 sisters including his twin Neal. He retired from Thermo-Electron in Auburn in 1995. He could often be found fishing, throwing horseshoes, playing cribbage, or enjoying coffee with his loved ones, always with his dog by his side. We will fondly remember his ability to laugh at life, his warm smile and his sheer will and stubbornness. Eva had a strong work ethic and retirement couldn't hold her back. She continued to work at Janette's Women's Clothing in Grafton and then at Walmart in Northborough before relocating to Maine to be with her daughter. Eva lived a beautiful life of love and grace, even in the most difficult times. She had a quick wit a mischievous smile. He graduated from Boys Trade in Worcester, and then joined the United States Army, serving proudly during the Korean War. Mr. Bassett worked for PW Sherman Furniture Company for 40 years, retiring in 1996. During his retirement, Mr. Bassett worked at Holden Hills Country Club, where he would often sneak away during the day to play a few holes. He was an avid golfer and always enjoyed playing with his sons. The family of Kenneth would like to thank the staff at Lanessa for their excellent and compassionate care. Bob, son of the late Francois and Ida (Mercure) Bessette, was born in Ware on May 24, 1921. He grew up in Thorndike, graduated from St. Anne's School in Three Rivers and Palmer High School. He attended Worcester Jr. College and Umass-Amherst. He was Technical Sergeant in the Army Air Corps, serving as a radio operator-gunner on a B-29 in WWII, participating in the invasion of Normandy. After the war, he moved to Gilbertville and resided with the late George and Albertina (Peltier) Bessette and their children. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Jeanette (Lavigne) Bessette, his children: Janet Bessette with whom he lived, Robert F. Bessette and his wife Suzanne (Hawkins) of Belmont NH, and Mary R. (Bessette) Vigliano and a granddaughter Sophie Irene Vigliano of Danbury CT. He also leaves his sisters in-law Claire Irwin and Shirley Podkowka both of Ware. He was predeceased by his half-sister Nora (Mercure) Merchant of RI and his brother-in-law Raymond Lavigne of Ware. Bob worked at the Former Ludlow Specialty Papers of Ware, at a variety of positions including supervisor from 1945 until retiring in 1983. He also served as an assessor for the Town of Hardwick from 1983 to 1997. He was a communicant of St. Aloysius Church, where he was a lector and had served as president of the Holy Name Society. Bob was an officer for the Hardwick Police Dept., for many years beginning in the 1950's. He had a long career of volunteerism and community service. He was an assistant Cub Master for the Boy Scouts, was a member of the local Civil Defense Agency, a trustee of the Gilbertville Public Library, a member of the VFW Post, and of the Sons of the Legion. He served American Legion Post 246 in every position including, Commander, Treasurer and Chaplain. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11am in St. Aloysius Church in Gilbertville with burial in the parish cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday morning from 9 to 10:30 at the Charbonneau Funeral Home in Ware. He leaves his wife of 33 years, Mary D.(Baker) Baker-Wood, his son, Adam R. Wood of Worcester, his daughter, Catherine H. Wood of Boston, a brother, Roger W. Wood, Jr. of Gaithersburg, MD., and several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a sister, Beverly Ann Avery in 2005. Ralph worked as a research technician at Norton Co. in Worcester for 35 years, retiring in 2001. Born in Worcester, he was the son of Roger W. Wood, Sr. and Helena (Bassett) Wood and graduated from David Prouty High School in 1956. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force from 1956-62 stationed in Okinawa, Japan. On his return, he attended Worcester State College. He loved travel, fishing, camping, and family vacations at the Cape, Maine and the Berkshires. He attended many Norton/St.Gobain retiree events and cherished his many years and friendships with co workers at Norton.
