Wilma L. Bassett, 96, of Quincy, formerly of Macomb, Illinois, passed away at 10:25 pm Monday (September 3, 2018) in the Illinois Veterans Home.
Born August 16, 1922 in Vermont, Illinois, Wilma was the daughter of Ernest and Chloe Stone France. She married Donal Bassett on June 24, 1943 in Rockville, Maryland. He preceded her in death in 1978.
Wilma enjoyed bowling in her younger years. She was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress. Wilma was a wonderful wife and mother who was devoted to her family and cherished the time she spent with them, especially with her grandchildren.
Wilma began her career as a Nurse's Aide at a nursing home in Astoria, Illinois and later at Culbertson Hospital in Rushville for several years until her retirement.
Survivors include a son, Dennis Bassett (Linda) of Quincy; a daughter, Melinda Barclay (Charles) of Newburgh, IN; four grandchildren, Ben Bassett (Cathy) of Chapel Hill, N.C., Natalie Gensits ( Jamie) of St. Louis, MO, Mischa Story (Landon) of Nashville, TN, Allison Ingler (Dan) of Newburgh, IN; eight great grandchildren, Connor, Declan, Ian, Jason, Rylan, Reagan, Alaina and Alivia; a brother, Merle France (Helen) of Indianapolis, IN; a sister, Phyllis Martin of Vermont, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Donal; a longtime companion, Jack Phillips; two brothers, Virgil France and Charles France; and four sisters, Vera Markley, Jean Heavenridge, Dorothy Knight and Ilene Rogers.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be held at the Vermont Illinois Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund.

QUINCY -- Wilma L. Bassett, 96, of Quincy, formerly of Macomb, died at 10:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2018, at the Illinois Veterans Home.

PRENTISS ? Services are scheduled at 2 p.m. today at Green?s Creek Baptist Church near Carson for Zelma Bass, 89, of the Green?s Creek Community who died Jan. 01, 1995, at Jefferson Davis County Hospital.
The Revs. T.C. Wilson and Hilton Entrikin will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
A Jefferson Davis County native, Mrs. Bass was ahomemaker. She was a member of Green?s Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Oliver Bass of Caron; four sons, Charles Bass of Sumrall and Leroy ?Bud? Bass, L.B. Bass and Hubert Bass, all of Carson; two daughters, Christine Dyess of Prentiss and Lucille Dyess of Carson; three sisters, Ida Kate Bass and Ethareen Smith of Carson and Lizzie Smith of Columbia; 16 grandchldren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Gary Bass, 75, of Schuylkill Haven, died on Friday, November 22, 2024, in Schuylkill Haven. Born in Hazleton and formerly of Tamaqua and Virginia Beach, he was the son of the late Lester, Sr. and Evelyn (Keich) Bass. Gary graduated from Tamaqua Area High School in 1966 where he was a member of the track and field team before continuing his education at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Delaware. A Master Plumber and a chronic workaholic, he was the owner of G. Bass Co., a business specializing in plumbing, heating, and HVAC. Gary had a love of John Wayne and Star Trek movies. He enjoyed fishing, playing chess, and was dedicated to doing the best for his family. Gary is survived by two daughters, Jessica Bass of Schuylkill Haven, and Tora Wolfe of Pottsville; a son, Gary, and his wife Katie of Reading; a brother, David and his wife Vicky of Baldwinsville, New York; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Lester Bass, Jr., and a sister Diane Ontiveros. Service will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, December 5, 2024, at Zizelmann-Gulla Funeral Home, 500 East Broad Street, Tamaqua. Call from 9-10 AM at the funeral home. Patrice Calleen Bass was born January 14, 1955 in Mankato, Minnesota, the daughter of Calvin and Evangline (Wagner) Bass. She was called from this life on Thursday, February 14, 2019. She was 64 years old. Patrice grew up in Mapleton and later in Murdock where she graduated as Valedictorian from Murdock High School. In 1973 she attended the University of Minnesota Morris. She completed a Bachelor Degree in Social Science. She later attended St. Cloud State and received a degree in Education. She pursued graduate work in Archival Preservation. In 1979 Patrice was united in marriage to John “JP” Patrick Freeman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Murdock. She and JP resided in Onamia, Minnesota. Patrice worked as a chef at Krossier Seminary in Onamia. She worked for St. Paul Park System, primarily at Como Park, where she cleaned, cataloged and preserved thousands of old photos and documents. Through her research they were able to locate lost treasures at the Park as well. She later worked at the Grand Casino Mille Lacs as a blackjack dealer and then became their main money counter. She worked for the Mille Lacs County Health System at Mille Lacs County Hospital as a Ward Secretary and then trained in the Pharmacy and became a Pharmacy Tech. Patrice’s sharpness always made her the “go to” gal. Patrice is survived by her sisters, Paulette (Richard) Collins of Spicer, Minnesota and Pamela Bass of Sun Lakes, Arizona; nieces and nephews; and other relatives. Preceding her in death were her father, Calvin Bass; her mother, Evangline (Wagner) Bass; her sister Penny Pangrac; and her husband John “JP” Freeman. A private family service will be held at a later date.
