Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 7 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born December 22, 1936 at Marshall, the son of Frank and Margaret (White) Vanoven. He married Jewell Bass on June 2, 1959 at Robinson. Survivors include his wife, Jewell; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Robert and Sandy Vanoven of Marshall; a daughter and son-in-law, Angela D. and Jerry Wright of Marshall; a daughter, Julie Ann Vanoven of Marshall; his mother of Marshall; two brothers, Larry Vanoven of Princeton, Ill. and George Frank Vanoven of Marshall; four sisters, Lu Sawyer of Cerro Gordo, Ill., Loretta Murphy, Sharon Ryan and Mary Jane Solomon, all of Marshall; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Vanoven, was retired from the Eli Lilly facility at Clinton, Ind., and was a US Army Veteran. Memorial services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 from the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Wayne Owens officiating. Inurnment will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018 at the Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the memorial service on Thursday. Esther was born in Goose Greek, Texas February 17, 1927 the daughter of the late Elmer Bass and Gertie Jones Bass. Esther loved animals raising just about every animal there is. Esther loved to dance and was an avid people watcher. She will be remembered for her fun loving and witty personality. When she was younger she loved to hunt, fish, and horseback riding. Esther has been part owner of multiple grocery stores and bars. She was preceded in death by her first husband Franklin Parker, second husband George Fregia, brother Alan Lee Bass, sister Doris Walker, and a great-granddaughter Hailey Litt. She leaves behind her son John F. Parker of Wallisville, daughter Linda Robbins of Madisonville, and a son Jimmy Parker of Madisonville, in addition she leaves numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Friday June 25, 2004 at Bruce~Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Officiating will be the Rev. Harry Imlay of Riverside United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the McGuire Bend Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Helene was born May 5, 1915 the daughter of James and Lois (Kendall) Babbitt in Fort Dodge, IA. On February 15, 1935 Helene was united in marriage to Arthur Richard Bass in Fort Dodge. Helene was a very craft oriented person who enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and sewing. She loved to travel, go fishing, and putting puzzles together. Helene looked forward to going on vacation. Her most valued time was spent with her family and friends. Those thankful for having shared in Helene's life include her children, Ronald (Lillian) Bass of Fort Dodge, Richard Bass of Stratford, Helen Louise Crannie of Fort Dodge, a daughter-in-law, Barbara Bass of Troy, Mich., one sister, Lois Roberta Kuhn of Fort Dodge, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 8 great great grandchildren. | 605 | Find-a-Grave Obituary James Lester Ewdards II Jim Edwards, 68, of Hutchinson, died August 21, 2017, at his home. He was born January 27, 1949, in Hutchinson, to James Lester and Maxine Jewel (Bass) Edwards. Jim graduated from Buhler High School in 1969. Immediately after high school, he joined the United States Navy, where he served from July 1969 to July 1973. For over 37 years, Jim worked at Krause Plow as a leadman. Jim enjoyed carpentry work and flipping houses, but his devotion was to his family, and he loved to dote on his grandchildren. On September 5, 1970, he married Jackie Amberg in San Diego, CA. She died February 2, 2015. Survivors include: sons, Jamie Lynn Edwards and Curtis Lee Edwards (Melissa), all of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Braxton Lee Edwards, Breckyn Leigh Edwards, and Braelyn Leigh Edwards, all of Hutchinson; sister, Carol Pfister of Alden; father-in-law, Jack Amberg of Wichita; sister-in-law, Robin Tompkins of Wellington; and numerous nieces and nephews. She married Troy Rawlinson on June 1, 1957 in Cushing, TX. She worked as a homemaker, dedicating her life to her husband and family. She was involved in many community activities such as 42 and bible studies. Nelwyn is preceded in death by her parents, Thurman Lee and Beatrice Bass, her husband, Troy Rawlinson, her daughter Cindy Jones, and her son James Rawlinson. | 608 | Find-a-Grave Obituary Rose Bass Hunt Rose Bass Hunt, 77, of Gainesville passed away February 10, 2014 at the E.T. York Hospice Care Center after an extended illness. Rose was born February 23, 1936 to Johniford and Estell Bass of Bell, Florida. Rose has two siblings, J.T. Bass and Lula Mae Michael. She attended Bell High School graduating in 1954. Following graduation she moved to Gainesville, where she met and married her beloved husband of 53 years, W.J. Hunt. Rose and W.J. raised their daughters and operated their family businesses in the Alachua County area until his death in 2009. Rose was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, working side by side with her husband in all of their endeavors. She was an avid gardener and the only thing Rose enjoyed more than her flowers was her cherished family. A woman of faith, kindness and compassion, she reached out to any and all that needed her. A truer friend no one ever had. She will be missed by all that knew her and her beloved family. She is survived by her daughters, Susan Hunt and Wanda Robinson (Scott); her niece (who was like a daughter), Kim Lege (John); Grandson, Jared Robinson; step-grandchildren, Jordan Robinson, Jason Robinson, Stephanie Moody, Bernie Hamilton and their spouses; along with five step-great grandchildren. Mr Lynn, born in Caldwell County, was the son of the late Ruth Hice and the widower of Linda Carol Bass Hice. He was also preceded in death by his grandmother, Martha Hice and a grandson, Donald George "Baby Trey" Sowney III. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he served for 12 years and had retired following 28 years of Civil Service at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. He was an avid hunter, he loved the outdoors and thoroughly enoyed the college football and basketball seasons where he pulled for the UNC Tarheels. He is survived by his daughter, Lindsay Michelle Hice Sowney of Snow Hill; Lindsay's mother, Nancy Harrell of Goldsboro; step-son, William Robert "Bubba" Jarman and wife Tammy of Goldsboro; grandchildren, Lyndon GraceAnne Sowney and Natalie Danielle Sowney; soisters, Wanda "Peedie" Bumgarner of Hudson; Paula Opper and husband Alex of Hickory; and Marsha Winkler of Hudson; many cousins, nieces and nephews. February 17, 2026 Randall Edward Bass, age 67, of Seligman, Missouri passed away surrounded by the love of his family on February 17, 2026. Born and raised in Branson, Randall proudly graduated from Branson High School and carried his small-town roots with him throughout his life. Randall was born to Harold and Etta Bass, who preceded him in death, along with his brother, Roger Bass. He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Bass, whom he married on April 3, 2015. He also leaves behind his sons, Clayton Bass and wife Alanna, and their sons, Ayden and Cooper, and Lonnie Bass. Randall is further survived by his brother, Curtis and wife MaryAnn; his sister, Denise Bass Henry and husband Dean; six stepchildren as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. Throughout his life, Randall was known for his strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit. He worked for Springfield Coca-Cola, worked livestock, owned and operated a convenience store, and served as a branch manager of a fastener supplier. No matter the role, he took pride in providing for his family and serving his community. Randall found joy in working on the farm, taking motorcycle rides, and ?piddling? with anything and everything he could get his hands on. Whether fixing, building, or tinkering, he was happiest when he was busy and outdoors. He will be remembered for his dedication to family, his steady presence, and the love he gave so freely. Jewett, 83, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 2, 1930 in Barre, VT to Edgar and Florence (Clark) Jewett. After retiring, he and his wife sold their home in Exton, PA and enjoyed traveling the country in their motorhome, visiting 45 of the 48 contiguous states. All will remember him for having a gentle soul and a beautiful smile that lit up his face. He loved the game of baseball, watching or coaching Little League games; playing golf; and going out for ice cream. | 615 | Fox News Two Killed in Union County; one arrested August 22, 2012 MARSHVILLE, N.C. ? Two men were killed and a third is arrested after a shooting Tuesday night in Union County. Bradrick Layne Wolfe, 47, of Marshville, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, said Sheriff Eddie Cathey. Cathey said deputies were called to a home near Marshville and found two men shot to death in the driveway. The victims have been identified as Wolfe?s father-in-law, David Lee Bass, and the suspect?s brother-in-law, David Clay Bass. A North Carolina Highway Patrol trooper spotted the suspect?s motorcycle a short time later in Anson County and began chasing him. Cathey says several other people were at the home and saw the shooting. He says the shooting apparently resulted from an argument. She graduated with a bachelor's degree in special education with a minor in Spanish. On October 14, 2006, Traci married Jerrod Bass of Castlewood, SD and had a son, Brody Lewis, January 25, 2008. Brody was her everything. So much so, she quit teaching and opened a daycare so she could stay home to be able to spend more time with him. Traci loved children and treated all of them like her own. Traci gave much of herself to those she loved, providing love, care, and support. We can't forget the great treats she used to make for everyone. She had a loud and boisterous personality (especially at Brody's sports events!) She had an impact on everyone she met. Traci was preceded in death by her mom (Wanda) and both sets of her grandparents. February 20, 2026 Dean passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Huron Woods Nursing Home in Kawkawlin at the age of 64. He was born on September 18, 1961 to the late D. George and Angeline (Chantiny) Bass in Saginaw, Michigan. In 1979, he graduated from Reese High School and continued his education at SVSU. He began his working career at Zehnder's of Frankenmuth and Herter Music Center, later retiring as a CNC operator from GM Powertrain after 25 years. Dean had a passion for music, he played in many bands which included Polka Bands, Community Bands, Pits and Church groups. He was a very talented musician who played several different instruments, tuba, bass guitar and the trombone. One of his major hobbies was the amateur radio club which included a lot of community service (KC8BGK). Dean is survived by his wife, Karen (Piering) Bass, whom he married on January 26, 1991; his daughters, Laura Bass and Emily Bass; brother, Leonard (Holly) Bass; sister, Judy (Jim) Manning; sister-in-law, Ann Bass and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jim Bass and sister, Joan Reddout. In honoring Dean?s wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 12:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church of Frankenlust with inurnment to follow at the St. Paul Cemetery. Samuel David Bass passed from this life on Good Friday, March 29, 2024 with a host of family members around his bedside at home. David was diagnosed with Parkinson?s Disease about five years ago and prostate cancer about 3 years ago. He ?fought a good fight, ran a good race, and ended well?. Bass, was born in Calcasieu, Louisiana. His mother, Annie Ruth Quarles, was born in Zwolle, Louisiana. David had four siblings: James Edward Bass, Jr., Penny Ruth Bass Viscardis, Robert Earl Bass, and Tommy Suzette Bass Briery. Pa worked in construction most of his life, and he took his family with him on most jobs. This gave the children the opportunity to meet many new friends and to learn to adapt to whatever life came their way. Football was a huge part of David?s life. He played football at Fair Park High School, and was awarded a full scholarship to Louisiana Polytechnic Institute (now Louisiana Tech University) where he was an All-American nose guard. He loved his teammates. During his precious life filled with God, love, laughter, dedication, and edifying others, David was a Haughton teacher and girl?s basketball coach, Thiokol Chemical Company Human Resources Director, manager of a copy machine business, Citizens Bank Loan Officer, truck driver, football coach, and owner of Bass Driving School, LLC. David met Linda, the love of his life and best friend of 48 years, at his sister (Suzie?s) wedding. They lived in Vivian, Louisiana for about 20 years. They loved attending First Baptist Church and going on trips with their Sunday School class members. Friends like Jerry Coon, A. C. Powell, Leonard Briery, and Curtis Viscardis made these times so special. Three children, Cary Dean Tarver, Kristen Ruth Bass, and Emily Renee? Bass were the loves of their lives. They enjoyed traveling, camping, and supporting their children in all of their endeavors. Then, football began to be a part of David?s life all over again. Linda took a teaching position at Evangel Christian Academy (ECA) and Kristen and Emily attended school there. It wasn?t long before David was a stand-out offensive line football coach with a drawer full of Louisiana LHSAA Football State Championship rings and one national championship. There was a band of brothers like no other with that group of coaches. Football icons Denny Duron, Dennis Dunn, Ronnie Alexander, John Bachman, Chris Tilley, Rick Berlin, Byron Copeland, Romy Cucjen and Johnny Booty were his best friends. He also loved and served the ECA administrators, teachers, and staff with all of his heart. Some of his best friends during this time were Scott Jones, Clint Hortman, Royce Coggins, Del Sowders, Rod Chandler, and Mel Campbell. A new chapter of his life began after Evangel. He became the owner and operator of Bass Driving School, LLC. Just like every other phase of his life, this was a success story filled with people who loved him because of the way he treated them and made them feel so special. David leaves a host of family members and friends who will miss his sweet smile, warm laugh, Godly counsel, and thoughtful ways. Linda, his wife of 48 years, is blessed to have a lifetime of good times and memories with her sweet husband. His children include Cary Tarver (Ashley Tarver, wife), their two sons Van Taylor Tarver III, Zachary Lee Tarver (Taylor, wife). His daughter, Kristen Ruth Bass, PA-C, who has taken pristine medical care of him for many years. And, this baby girl, Emily Renee? Bass Nycum (Brent, husband), and their two daughters Ember Ruth and Josie Brooks Nycum have been a blessing to his life. There are no words to express how much we love him and will miss him. But, we know he is in heaven walking on streets of gold and having a fabulous time with his family and friends who went on before him. David?s family is very close, and they love to celebrate life. His siblings James, Penny, Robert, and Suzie have been blessed with children who are products of their loving, Godly environment. Nieces and nephews include: James ?Tee Dee? Bass (Lisa, wife), Rhonda Bass, Christina Davis (Andy, husband), Chantell Pettingell (Tim, husband), Amy Hook (Daniel, husband), Tammy Graham (Randy, husband), Chris Viscardis (Cindy wife), Craig Viscardis (Robin, wife), Shelli Murphy (J.T., husband), and Eddie Briery. Because of his sweet ways, David was probably the favorite of many of his nieces, nephews, and cousins. There are so many cousins, great nieces, and great nephews that David loved. After graduating from Havre High School in 1962, David joined the National Guard. Then, while working for Hill County, David began acquiring more and more farmland north of Havre until the farm became a full-time job. David served on the Federal Land Bank and during his time as Chairman of the bank board, he would often travel to Minneapolis and Spokane for business. David also served on the Havre High School Booster Club for many years. In 1963, David married Kathy Schafer and had two children: Randy and Nikki. They later divorced and David left the farm to his son. After moving into town, David worked for the City of Havre and also hauled cows for Shrauger Farms, which is something that he really loved doing. In 1992, David married Susie and was welcomed with love by her three grown children: Cub, Mandi, and Tobey. When David retired from the City of Havre, he went to work for Patrick Construction, where he loved the comradery of the staff and crew, driving 'his' truck, and mentored many of the younger employees. David loved working outside while at home, doing chores and tending to the animals, but come 3:00, he would head to town to 'have a cup' with his coffee club. David was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Wade. He is now reunited with his best friends LeRoy and Herbie as well as some of the best bull haulers in the business. David is survived by his beloved wife Susie and his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his faithful dog Cowboy. March 15, 2016 Virginia Mae Bassett Uzzell, affectionately called Ginny, and Mawmaw, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 15, 2016 at the Greensboro home of her daughter and son-in-law at the age of 97. Virginia was born on September 25, 1918 in Paducah, Kentucky to Etta Dalton and Thomas Stamp Bassett. As a young child they moved to Charlotte, NC where she grew up. She graduated from Charlotte Central High School and Queens College Business School. Virginia lost her first husband, Julius McRoy Sealy, Jr. in World War II. During the 1940's she worked as secretary to the treasurer at Queens College and as a secretary at Southern Bell. Ginny met Harold Wright Uzzell, who nicknamed her Ginny and swept her off her feet, and they married in 1951. Ginny relished being a homemaker and a beloved wife and mother as her husband's career moved them to Columbia, SC, where their son Wright was born; Greenville, NC, where their daughter Lisa was born; then on to Richmond, Atlanta, Detroit, and finally back to Charlotte, where they lived for 40 years. She made dear friends everywhere she went, and found churches and fellowships and Bible studies to be a part of in every city. In Charlotte, she found her church home at St. Giles Presbyterian, where she enjoyed deep joy in worshipping her Lord, studying, serving and loving people. The love and joy of her life was her family. She cherished her children and grandchildren and wanted to have us all together all the time. She created beautiful and delicious meals effortlessly and tirelessly. Holidays at Mawmaw's house were full of love, food and beauty. The memories that were made there will be cherished as long as we live. Ginny moved with Hal to Greensboro in 2008 to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Buster Lewis. In those last years she amazed her family with her love, kindness, thankfulness, and unfailing optimism. Every day was a beautiful day and every meal was delicious. The most outstanding features of her life and personality were her unflagging faith and her determination to see the good in every person and every situation. She never, ever said an unkind thing about anyone. Even to the very last days of her life, when her body was failing, she said, "It's a beautiful day." Her last words were "thank you". She encouraged us to always be thankful and joyful. Those who have gone before her are her parents, Etta and Stamp Bassett; her sister, Vivian Bassett Gettys; her brothers, Tommy, James and William Bassett; her beloved husband, Hal Uzzell; and her grandson, Jeremy Black. Left behind to cherish her in their memories are her children, Wright and Sylvia Uzzell, and Lisa and Buster Lewis; her grandchildren, Aaron Uzzell, Lauren Black, Josh Harris, Chelsea Lewis, Audrey Lewis and Travis Willse; and her brother-in-law, Gerald Uzzell. Bassett was born July 19, 1943, in Anacortes, Washington, to Jack and Virginia Debar Bassett, and passed away February 13, 2026. Jack joined the Navy right out of high school and served aboard the USS Bennington. After three years, he was discharged and began working for California Edison Phone Company in Southern California. He later moved to Northern California, where he met his wife, June Tigert, and worked for PacBell and AT&T. They were married in 1965 in Reno, Nevada. Two years later, he re-enlisted in the Air Force. During the Vietnam War, Jack was stationed in Korat, Thailand. He also spent three years in Germany, where his family was able to join him. After one year in Kunsan, Korea, he decided not to continue with the Air Force and was discharged after eight years of service. He then went to work at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Northern California and finished his civilian career in San Diego, California, as a manager for MATCALS (Marine Air Traffic Control). Jack was also an active member of the church of Christ, where he served as a deacon and preached when the need arose. He was preceded in death by his parents and his younger brother, Jim Bassett. He is survived by his wife, June Bassett; his sons, Jeff (Regina) Bassett and Mark (Christa) Bassett; his daughters, Alicia (Ken) Bohl and Stacey (Brian) Meyers; 10 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; his youngest brother, George (Judy) Bassett; sister-in-law Carol Bassett; brother-in-law Jimmy Graham; and sister-in-law June Lott. | 630 | Hartquist Funeral Home Mary Elizabeth Bassett MARY ELIZABETH BASSETT was born to Felix L. and Elizabeth B. (Ziegler) Spielmann on October 16, 1932 in McCook County, South Dakota. She was raised in Humboldt, South Dakota where she attended St. Ann?s Parochial School and then Humboldt High School. On June 28, 1949, she was united in marriage to Leo Glenn Egger. Following their marriage, they lived by Colton, South Dakota. Leo died in a car accident on June 25, 1958. After his death, Mary moved back to Humboldt. On November 30, 1959, she was united in marriage to Joel E. Bassett. Following their marriage, they lived in Baltic, South Dakota for five years. In 1965, they moved to Jasper, Minnesota. In the early 70?s, Joel and Mary joined together as owner/operators of Bassett Service of 19 years. After leaving the station, she worked various odd jobs, starting with Dr. Olsen Dentistry, before cleaning at the Jasper Bank, and finally working overnights at Sunrise Village. Helping the residents of Sunrise Village was a great passion for her. Joel preceded her in death on April 19, 2001. After his death, Mary continued to live and work in Jasper. On Monday, November 15, 2021 she entered the care of the Pipestone County Hospice House in Pipestone where she died peacefully on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at the age of 89 years, one month, and one day. Mary had been a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper until its closing. She then became a member of St. Leo Catholic Church in Pipestone. She liked to watch the Twins play. She also liked to crochet, cross stitch, embroider, and do puzzles. Together, Joel and Mary loved to play pool. After Joel?s passing, Mary continued to play pool joining the league and enjoying a game whenever she could. Together they also enjoyed bowling. Mary was on the women?s league for many years. GATES, secretary and treasurer of the Armstrong Trust Company of Kittanning, was born in that borough in 1881, son of the late William and Mary (Bassett) Gates, and grandson of William Gates. The grandfather was for many years owner and manager of the Kittanning Iron Works. William Gates, son of William, and father of Herbert G. Gates, was born March 2, 1842, in Pittsburgh, and when six years old was brought to Kittanning by his parents. He attended public school here and Elder's Ridge Academy, and when sixteen years old went to New York City to study pharmacy. Returning to Kittanning within several years, he went into a confectionery business with his brother, James Gates. Later these two branched out into the grocery business, their partnership continuing until the elder brother enlisted for service in the Civil war. William Gates then bought a store on South Jefferson street, and conducted it for some years, until he sold it in order to devote all his attention to his extensive granary. Dur- ing the last few months of his life he was confined to the house with a lingering illness. In August, 1864, Mr. Gates married Virginia Bassett, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Bassett, now deceased. Mr. and Mrs. Gates had the following family: William; Mrs. J. H. Sutherland, of Chambersburg ; Sara B., Mrs. Watt; Edna, and Herbert G. Mr. Gates was a devout member of the Presbyterian Church, serving the old Second Presbyterian Church as elder, and working in the Sunday school as superintendent. Herbert G. Gates was educated in the public and high schools of Kittanning, the Kittanning Academy, and the Eastman business college, at Poughkeepsie, N. Y., from which he was graduated in 1901. Immediately afterward he entered the First National Bank of East Brady, Pa., as bookkeeper, but within three months was offered and accepted the position of bookkeeper of the Armstrong Trust Company of Kittanning. Within eighteen months he was made secretary and treasurer, and still holds these offices. In addition to his connection with the Armstrong Trust Company, Mr. Gates is administrator of the William Gates estate, secretary and treasurer of the Fort Pitt Powder Company, and a director of the Acme Natural Gas Company of Leechburg, Pa. Fraternally he belongs to the Elks, while his religious connections are with the Presbyterian Church of Kittanning. Like his father he takes an active part in church affairs, now serving as secretary of the congregation and church trustee. In 1902, Mr. Gates married Winifred Rohrer, daughter of Frederick Rohrer, a prominent newspaper man. On May 23, 2001, he married Cindy S. Rugg-Beers and they raised a blended family of three children together for nearly 20 years. Troy worked at several different Auto Manufacturing Plants in the Lansing Area. He recently retired from Loc Performance. Troy was a member of Bellevue Conservation Club and National Rifle Association. Troy and Cindy enjoyed traveling and going on vacations, and their favorite was a cruise they took in 2019. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and an avid Michigan State University Fan. Troy also enjoyed camping, and spent many summers camping with his friends at Lake of Dreams campground in Merrill. Troy had passion for hunting and outdoors which he enjoyed sharing with others teaching hunter safety for many years. Biography ? Born 1965 in Coldwater, Michigan, Kevin grew up in New Haven, Indiana. After an Epiphany during the viewing of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" at the age of 11, Kevin dedicated all his passions to directing/shooting of films and later, videos. Having won multiple film festivals during his years at New Haven High School (graduating in 1984) Kevin moved on to the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Columbia College in Chicago where he was fortunate to be classmates with the likes of Januz Kaminski, ASC (2-time Oscar winning Cinematographer), Mauro Fiore, ASC (Oscar winning Cinematographer of "Avatar") and Jeff Jur, ASC. Kevin's very first paid position was as a grip/PA to DP Alan Thatcher on the low budget horror film "Savage Beliefs" on which Januz Kaminski was the "A" camera 1st assistant. While at Columbia, Kevin worked with Kaminski on several student projects as well as "slave labor" for the various productions that came to Chicago in the mid-80s. In 1987, after Kaminski & Fiore left Chicago for the AFI, Kevin returned to Fort Wayne, Indiana and took a position as a film/video cinematographer with the top local production house. He spent the next decade moving up to bigger and better production companies, and continuing to freelance in the Chicago market. He picked up his first Emmy award for Cinematography in 1993. The following years he was nominated for seven additional Emmy Awards, and began to freelance his talents as a DP to a larger market area. In 1997, relocated to Grand Haven, Michigan to accept the Senior Director/Cinematographer position of the top production house in Western Michigan. After numerous awards for national 35mm &16mm spots and corporate films, in 1999 Kevin welcomed his first son Nathan and returned to northern Indiana to once again freelance his talents as a Director of Photography. He was a masterful gardener and enjoyed spending hours with his wife, Betty, tending to their flowers and vegetables. He was self-reliant, if something needed to be built or fixed, he would tackle it. Jim will be remembered as a loving and faith-filled man. He adored his wife, Betty, loved his children, and took pride in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a man who quietly placed others before himself, embodying the virtues of kindness, generosity, and humility. Jerry was born on June 11, 1954 in Montgomery, Alabama. A graduate of Robert E Lee High School, Jerry entered the US Air Force and served as a medical clerk at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. After exiting the Air Force in 1976, Jerry began working with the US Postal Service and remained with that agency for the remainder of his career until he retired in 2021. Throughout the intervening time, Jerry also continued in military service with the Alabama Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of Chief Master Sargeant in 2019. Jerry was a reserved individual who was deeply motivated by duty, responsibility, and love of family. Throughout his life, Jerry worked hard to ensure that the things and the people for which he was responsible were cared for to the best of his ability. He freely helped, gave with an open hand, and took care of those he could when others did not. He loved his children, wanted the best for them, and gave them the freedom to walk and run while being there when they fell. Throughout his life, Jerry was keenly aware there was a world ?out there? he wanted to see. Like many, during the earliest parts of his life, he was bound by responsibility to stay close to home. Nevertheless, he wanted more ? to see more, try more, and do more. In the later part of his life, he was blessed to find Barbara Peters and, with her, he found the opportunities to travel and visit destinations he only dreamed of experiencing. Together, Jerry and Barbara made a new life, and, despite being cut down so quickly, it was good. When they were not traveling, Jerry and Barbara lived a quiet life in their home in Pike Road. There, they tended their yard and gardens, ate good food, rough-housed with their dogs, discussed current events, and enjoyed quiet evenings in their backyard under the Alabama stars. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edna Bass. Mary was born Feb. 21, 1923, in Fenn, Idaho, the daughter of Dennis and Irene (Parsons) Howard. She was raised in Craigmont, Idaho, and graduated from high school there. Mary then attended college in Idaho before graduating with a nursing degree from Good Samaritan Medical School in 1944. Mary married W.E. "Bud" Barnes on June 7, 1947, in Lewiston, Idaho. They moved to Lebanon from Kennewick, Washington, in 1956. Mary had worked locally as a registered nurse in the offices of Dr. Daugherty and Dr. Brink until her retirement. Mary was a member of the Lebanon First Presbyterian Church. She was past president of the Oregon Nurse's Association and past member of the Oregon State Mother's Association. She enjoyed spending time with her family and cooking. She is survived by her husband W.E. "Bud" Barnes of Lebanon; sons Donald Barnes of Reno, Nevada, and Gene H. Barnes of Snoqualmie, Washington; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Denice Ward, and three brothers. | 646 | Legacy Remembers, 16 July 2022 Norman Clark Bassett Norman Clark Bassett died peacefully with family by his side on July 2, 2022 at John C. Lincoln hospital in Phoenix, AZ. Norman (Norm) was born June 17, 1931 to William Glenroy Bassett and Jeannette (Neff) Bassett in Longmeadow, MA. Many people called Norman "Bubby", a nickname he earned as a small child. Norm's father died in 1938 when Norm was seven years old. His mother remarried George Campbell who helped raise Norm. Many other fathers took Norm under their wing, teaching him about boats, boating maintenance, how to run a business, and gave Norm his life-long love of sailing. Norm attended Classical High School in Springfield, MA, graduating in 1949. He attended Brown University where he swam on the varsity team and was a member of the Class of 1953. While at Brown, he met Martha Scott, whom he married in 1953. Norm enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1953, serving at West Point and in Germany with the 1st Infantry Division. After his service in the US Army, Norm returned to the states in 1955, working for Hayden Wayside Furniture in Enfield, CT. He became store manager, a post he held for 28 years. Norm and Martha originally lived in East Longmeadow, MA until settling in Longmeadow where they raised their five children. In 1984 he and Martha moved to their dream waterfront home in Rockport, MA, and Norm became the manager of C.F. Tompkins Furniture in Danvers, MA. Norm moored his beloved Pearson Triton sailboat, Pandora, at eastern Point Yacht Club in Gloucester Harbor. Norm and Martha spent much of their vacations sailing the North Shore and exploring the coast of Maine. Norm made friends in nearly every port, usually by taking an evening swim around the harbor and striking up conversations between strokes. In 1990 Norm opened his own store in Danvers and named it Scott Wayside in honor of Martha. He ran the store with the same integrity that guided him throughout his furniture management career. He enjoyed the personal relationships developed while helping loyal customers design their homes. When Norm closed the store he was not ready for retirement. He took a position managing Westwood Furniture's Stickley Gallery Showroom in Middleton, MA. Later, he embarked on a management and promotional sales career with D.M Reid and also with Planned Furniture Promotions. Norm traveled the country working promotional sales where his energy, enthusiasm and humor helped him forge friendships with his coworkers, many of whom were 50-60 years his junior. Norm worked his last furniture sale in 2019 and finally retired for good at age 87. Norm was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Martha (Scott). He is survived by Elizabeth (Betsy) Scott Bennett (John) of Sterling, VA, William Glen Bassett (Shirley) of Lexington, MA, Katharine Tobin (Timm) of Chatham, MA, Eleanor (Ellie) Bassett of Hudson, NH, and David Scott Bassett of Glastonbury, CT. Norm also leaves nine grandchildren (Joe, Katie, Gregg, Chris, Paige, James, Nick, Charlotte and Haley) and one great grandson (Peter). Norm leaves his wife Barbara Daniel of Phoenix, AZ. Norm founded and was the long-time scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 95 in Longmeadow, MA. His scouts and the adults who worked with him always have a "Mr. Bassett" story to fondly remember him by. He was recognized in 1980 by the Pioneer Valley Council for his contributions to scouting. Norm's life-long passion was sailing, a skill he learned through the kindness of others who took him under their wing when he was 7 years old after his father passed away. Spending summers at Point O'Woods in Old Lyme, CT, Norm learned how to sail many different types of boats, how to restore sailboats to working order and how to run a successful business renting out boats and giving boat rides. He referred to any boat whose primary means of propulsion was a motor as a "stink pot". A graveside service will be held in the future in the Point O'Woods cemetery in Old Lyme, CT. He attended Christian Heritage School, Longview Christian School and graduated from Union Grove High School where he played the trombone in the band and excelled in drama. He was currently employed as a security officer for Noble Security and..according to Daniels Facebook page he was in charge of everything at Golden Flake Bakery! Daniel, since 5th grade, has been an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, Gladewater Texas. He participated in the youth drama program, served the youth and children ministries leading worship, and was active in his college and career. Daniel is preceded in death by his grandfather, Marvin Wood Bass Jr. of Longview; and his grandmother, Rita LaJuan Yates Jones of Vivian, La. He is survived by his parents, Dennis and LeJuan of Gilmer; his brother, Chris Bass of Alabama; sister and brother-in-law, Alisha and Manny Vidaurri of Washington; sister, Amanda Bass, and his sister, April Bass, both of Gilmer. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Jerry Lee and Jonnie Jones of Tennessee; his paternal grandmother, Monel Bass of Longview; his great-uncle and aunt, Benny and Jewell Spraybary of Denton, Texas; his aunts and uncles, Terri Bass of Longview, Phillip Jones of Africa, Dale and Kris Jones of Illinois, Rick and Trudy Bonnette of Alaska and Bill and Kelli Jones of Fort Worth; along with numerous cousins.
