- Abiram and Ann left New York State for Ohio in 1819 with two yoke of oxen, being on the road four weeks, arriving in Lime Township, Huron County, Ohio, where the family lived a short time, then moved to Milan Township, Erie County, Ohio. Here the family continued to live until 1851.
Abiram served in the New York State militia and received a pension for his service during the War of 1812. This pension approved on xxx shows that he was 74 years old and filed the application at the Wood County Court of Common Pleas. It confirms his marriage to Anna Griffin on 27 December 1818 at Locke. He served under Captain John Ellis, commanded by Colonel Bloom and enrolled in September 1813 (10 Sep 1813) and was honorably discharged at Fort George on 18 Dec 1813. It states, "he was discharged one or two days before the burning of
Buffalo, New York and while he was stationed at Lewiston, New York our troops fired hot shot across at the troops on the other side, and General McClue marched the troops toward Burlington Heights for three days and then marched the troops back again, and General W. H. Harrison came to the Fort and made a speech after the Battle of the Thames." The brief of claim states that their pension was "admitted" on 23 Apr 1872 retroactive to 14 Feb 1871 for $8 per month.
