Bassett Last week we briefly announced the death of Stephen Bassett, which occurred about two o?clock Friday morning, April 9th. For a year his health had been failing, and much of the time he had been a great sufferer. The funeral was held Sunday at the Methodist church at the usual hour of the morning service, and the church was crowded. The Rev. H.T. Clendenning officiated, delivered a most excellent sermon. On account of the funeral there was no services at the Presbyterian church, the congregation uniting with their Methodist brethren to honor the memory of one whose quiet, unassuming Christian character during many years had won for him the esteem of all who knew him. Stephen J. Bassett was born in Delaware County, New York, August 6, 1822. At the age of ten his parents removed to Coldwater, Michigan, where he resided until 1853, when he removed to this county. In 1855 he was married to Miss Victoria Reed, and since that time he has resided on his farm in Lincoln township. In 1860 he united with the M.E. church of this city, and he died in its communion.
