Jesse M. Bassett
Jesse Bassett, aged 82 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H.D. Kemp, 2113 10th avenue, at 3 o’clock last night after an illness of several months with a complication of diseases. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. M.H. Noe of Indianapolis, Ind.; Mrs. J.C. Copeland, Nankipooh, Ga.; Mrs. P.J. Wiggins, and Mrs. H.D. Kemp of Columbus; four sons, Henry, of Upstate, Ga.; James of Girard; George and Lazarus, of Columbus; one brother, Sewell Bassett, and two sisters, Mrs. Millie Powers, and Mrs. Maggie Phillips of Chattahoochee county.
Mr. Bassett was well known and lived a true Christian life. He was a member of Camp Benning United Confederate Veterans. He served throughout the war between the states as a member of Co. D, 48th Georgia Regiment. The funeral took place from the home of Mrs. Kemp at 3:30 o’clock this afternoon and the interment followed at Riverdale cemetery, Rev. O.L. Evans of the St. Marks Methodist church, conducted the services and the pallbearers were A.P/ Phelte, T.J. Nix, S.I. Nix, J.H. Barnes, W.S. Gibeon, A.T .Hutchinson.
