Ella Mae Bass Ellis
Ella Mae Ellis, 97, of Kansas City, formerly Columbia, passed away in Kansas City on October 3, 2014. She was born February 24, 1917 in Boone County the daughter of Ernest Bass and Jennie (Norman) Bass. On August 28, 1939 in Fulton, MO, she was united in marriage to James David Ellis, who preceded her in death.
Ella moved to Columbia to attend Douglass School, living with her grandmother, Charlotte Norman. Following her wedding, Ella and David moved to Chicago where they started a restaurant and corner store called ?Step In? which they operated for many years. After the passing of her husband, Ella moved back to Missouri to be closer to her family, living in both Columbia and Kansas City. Ella was a woman of faith and she attended Log Providence Missionary Baptist Church and Sugar Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
Ella is survived by one brother: John (Mae Helen) Bass of Fulton, MO; two sisters: Lillie Pearl Vaughn of Kansas City, MO; Hetty Coleman of Columbia, MO; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband Ella was preceded in death by one sister: Dorothy Washington; four brothers: Ernest Bass; Elmer Mitchell; Elvin Bass; and Winnard Bass.
Friends will be received from 9:00 a.m. ? 11:00 a.m. Saturday October 11, 2014 at Millard Family Funeral Home where Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Larry Warren, officiating. Interment will follow at Log Providence Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of MILLARD FAMILY Funeral Home, 12 E. Ash St., (573) 442-7112.
