      Herbert H. Bass

Herbert H. Bass was born in Wagner, Oklahoma and lived a life full of service, love, and dedication to his family and community. Mr. Bass proudly served his country in the military, achieving the rank of Master Sergeant, USAF, before his honorable discharge. After settling in California, he worked for General Motors for 37 years. Mr. Bass was a good man. Even in retirement, he worked for Hertz, where he relished meeting new people and sharing his warmth and compassion. He took care of several loved ones when they were ill until their deaths. You could always count on him for help if you needed a hand with anything. He attended Laymen?s Chapel, BeeBee Memorial C.M.E. and Amos Temple C.M.E. He was very active in the church providing long service as a Sunday School teacher, both Trustee and Steward Boards member, and many invaluable contributions and services. Most everyone has a memory of something he was doing around the church. He was known for his cooking but that was not only at the church. Mr. Bass would BBQ and sell it from the RV both around town and at the Ashby BART Station flea market in Berkeley. Customers would come from as far as San Francisco just to get some of his BBQ. I guess you could say they had a food truck long before it was popular. He was an avid sports fan and supported his local teams: the Oakland A?s, Oakland Raiders and the Golden State Warriors. Herbert married 3 times. First to Eula Mae Givings, Sybil J. Wren, and Juanita Jackson. Ms. Jackson was his loving wife, steadfast companion, and caretaker until the end. In his legacy, he leaves a host of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cousins. Herbert H. Bass will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering kindness, generosity, and the profound impact he had on the lives of those around him. May he rest in peace. Memorial Service and Burial, August 5, 2024, 10:00 am, Oakmont Memorial Park and Mortuary, 2099 Reliez Valley Road, Lafayette, CA 94549.
