Bass, 78, of 1319 Geiger Street owner and operator of the Palmetto Candy and Tobacco Co., died today in Richland Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday in Dunbar Funeral Home, Gervais Street Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Dr. John A. Wilson. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Mr. Bass was born in Lamar, the son of the late David Jesse and Elizabeth Hunter Bass. He was a member of Arsenal Hill Presbyterian Church, a veteran of World War I, U. S. Army and a member of Richland Post No.6, American Legion. He was also a member of the Charles Girardeau Chapter of VFW and Earlewood Lodge 271 AFM for more than forty years. Surviving is his wife, Mrs. Blanch Roach Bass, a daughter Mrs. Lib (Pat) Trash, a son, James R.
