    • The Otsego Farmer, March 25, 1921
      The Hon. Delos E. Bass

Many throughout the county of Otsego and particularly in Oneonta, will learn with deep regret of the death of the Hon. Delos E. Bass, which occurred on Friday of last week at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W.R. Fitch of West Winfield. The funeral was held at the Fitch residence, and interment was in the cemetery at Unadilla Forks. A correspondent of the Utica Press gives the following account of his life and worthy tribute to his memory:
?Hon. Delos E. Bass of Plainfield was born in Edmeston, May 20, 1840. He improved such school facilities as were within his reach and early learned to work under the direction of his father, proving an apt pupil in whatever he undertook. He lived on the same farm since 1858. He married Miss Nettie Huntley of Exeter, November 25, 1866. She survives with the following children: Mrs. Flora B. Swan, Mt. Vernon; Mrs. Grace Williams and Mrs. Maud Fitch of West Winfield; Lyle D. Bass of Edmeston and Bruce Garfield Bass, of Plainfield.?
?Mr. Bass was quite active and prominent in public affairs, being a man of energy and influence not only in his community but throughout Otsego county, where he was well and favorably known. He served the town of Plainfield two terms acceptably as supervisor. He was an assessor of the town for many years. He was in the state legislature as member of the assembly in 1905 and 1906 and there established a reputation for honesty, faithfulness and attentivesness to his duty whicfh was thoroughly creditable. That he was well and highly thought of by the people of his immediate locaility could be proven in no better way than the statement that continuously for the last 20 years he had been a justice of the peace. The deceased was a member of the Baptist church at Unadilla Forks and was superintendent of tis Sunday school for a long time. Mr. Bass was a man who was kindly, courteous and progressive, possessing in generous degree those attributes and characteristics which make a man personally popular. Thoroughly honorable and upright, and well informed, he was a welcome guest and an agreeable companion. Few farmers in this section were better known and he will be much missed by a large circle of friends and acquaintenances.?
