BESSETTE, M. ROLAND 84, of Cumberland and formerly of Central Falls, passed away peacefully, Friday, April 3, 2015. He was the beloved husband of Elsie (Departhy) Bessette. Born in Pawtucket, he was the son of the late Jean and Cecile (Laurendeau) Bessette. Roland lived in Central Falls before moving to Cumberland in 1987. He was a Coast Guard veteran of the Korean War. He was a police officer of the Central Falls Police Department for 26 years, retiring as a captain in 1987. Roland was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Lions Club. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Steven Bessette, John Bessette and his wife Donna, Mary Beth Houle and her husband Donald, Alyson Adalio and her husband John, Jayne Hosney and her husband, Michael, Michael Bessette and his wife Debbie, Karen Falvey and her late husband William, Matthew Bessette and his wife Lori, and his stepson Mark Neves and his wife Helen; two sisters, Elizabeth Lapointe and Margaret Rinaldi, 23 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Laurence Brdar, Fleurette Wood, Jeannette Sassi, Theresa Absi and Lillianne Murphy. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 10am in Saint Joan of Arc Church, 3357 Mendon Road, Cumberland. Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Cumberland. Visiting hours Monday from 4-8pm in the O'Neill Funeral Home, 3102 Mendon Road, Cumberland.
