Daughter of First Sheriff

Mrs. Mary heath who was buried at Tennyson, Ind., Saturday was reared in the first log jail of which Warrick county boasted. She was 76 years old when she died. She was the daughter of Richard Bass. Her mother was Sarah Scales, daughter of William Scales, the first sheriff of Warrick county and one of the first settles of that county. The surrounding forest at that was still filled with wild game and Indiana. The jail was a log structure as were all the other dwellings at the time. Many of Mrs. Heath?s childhood days were spent in this jail with her grandfather. He was the great grandfather of Patrolman Scales, of Evansville, and the great-great grandfather of Mrs. Scales. Mrs. Heath left two children, R.S. Heath and Almarinda DePriest. The latter is the mother of Mrs. Scales, of Evansville.
