Peter Bass
February 18, 1936 ? December 5, 2023
It is with heavy hearts; we share the sad news that Peter Bass of Ocean Twp, NJ passed away peacefully on 12/5/2023 surrounded by his family. Although Peter survived prostate cancer 6 years ago, unfortunately, just a few short months ago, we learned it had metastasized into his bones.
Peter Bass was born February 18, 1936 to Harry and Estelle Bass, in Newark, NJ. He grew up with his brother Steven and sisters Karen and Marilyn in Plainfield. Peter was the Sports Editor of his High School yearbook, then attended and graduated from Syracuse University. He continued on to University of Virginia where he graduated with a Juris Doctorate in Law. Afterwards, he came back to the Jersey shore and began practicing law in Freehold. In the summer of 1963, he met and fell in love with Ellen Rockoff. They were married in 1964 and had their children, Todd and Marlo. Peter loved coaching some of the sports teams his kids were on while also being an active member of Temple Beth Torah. He loved playing cards, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, and in addition to reading, he was a huge sports fan. Peter's love of food led to his love of travel which he paired with his love of the theater. In addition to Broadway, Peter truly enjoyed all musicals and live concerts, that included a variety of musical genres. Over the last 10 years, Peter looked forward to being a "Snow Bird" by splitting his time between Florida and NJ.
Peter is survived by Ellen Bass, his son Todd (Jessica) Bass and daughter Marlo Byrne. Peter was a beloved Grandfather to Abigail (a.k.a. Rowan) and Lucas Bass, along with Sabrina and Kyra Byrne. He leaves behind his brother Steven (Paula) Bass, sisters Karen (Alan) Shapiro and Marilyn Dale (Bill Paish), along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:30am on December 7, 2023 at Woolley- Boglioli Funeral Home located at 10 Morrell St, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
