William R. Bassette
William R. Bassette, 62, of 171 Whitney St., Ludlow, died Monday after a long illness at Mercy Hospital. Mr. Bassette was born in Ludlow, Jan. 9, 1904, son of the late Horace and Melvina (Baron) Bassette. He resided in Ludlow most of his life with the exception of 13 years in Indian Orchard. He was employed by Chapman Division of Crane Co. for 25 years retiring two years ago. Besides his wife, Mrs. Clemence (Premo) Bassette, he leaves a son, William C. of Ludlow; two daughters, Mrs. Douglas Falconer of Westfield and Mrs. Roger Mehot of Indian Orchard; three brothers, Arthur of this city, Horace of Westfield and Lionel of Ludlow; a sister, Miss Lena Bassette of Ludlow; six grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be held at Ratell’s funeral home Wednesday at 8.15 a.m. with a requiem high mass in St. Matthew’s Church at 9. Burial will be in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visiting hours are today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
