Helen Bassett, 99, of Branford, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning at Whispering Pines, in East Haven.
Helen was born in New Haven on January 6th, 1927, to the late Matthew and Mary Zlotkowski Amarante. She married William E. Bassett and they raised 8 children before his passing in 1985. Over the years, Helen worked at Winchester, Yankee Silversmith, SeaWorld and many others to provide for her family, which was most important to her. Helen enjoyed being busy, never sitting still for long and tough to keep up with! She loved to cook and bake for her family whenever she could. She liked tag sales and bargain hunting, casino trips with her sisters, reading mystery novels, and crocheting.
Helen is survived by her children, Nancy McCann, Carol (Scott) Thayer, William Bassett Jr, James Bassett, Robert Bassett, Daniel Bassett and Steven Bassett; as well as 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren; her beloved daughter-in-law, Leanora; her sister, Anne Faulkner; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas Bassett; and siblings, Marion Fragola, Grace Lavorgna, and Stanley, Edward, Andrew, Matthew and Joseph Amarante.
A private service for Helen will take place at St. Agnes Cemetery in Branford.
