Alfred Stephen Bassett, Sr.
HARLOWTON ? Alfred Stephen Bassett, Sr., 82, passed away June 11, 1991, in the Wheatland Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born Nov. 9, 1908, in Pierre, S.D., a son of Thad and Clara Roberts Bassett. he was the oldest of nine children. He was married to Mary Elizabeth Gibbs on July 2, 1937, in Billings.
Alfred was retired from the Milwaukee Railroad in 1972, having been employed since 1942. Previous to that he was a rancher at Melstone. In late years, he and Mary had a business, Bassett Handicrafts, where they made Montana wood furniture and framed Charlie Russell paintings, of which they were very proud.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Harlowton; three sons, Thad and Alfred Jr., both of Melstone and Donald of Escondido, Calif.; two brothers, Ronald of Joliet and Robert of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Iva Leslie of Seaford, Va., and Naomi Althaus of Vancouver, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Barbara Bassett of Billings, Billie Sue and Tom Ramirez of Miles City, Twila and Charles Bassett of Fargo, N.D., and Jamie Bassett and Rose Marie Keadle of Chula Vista, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony Keadle and Joanna Lain Keadle of Chula Vista, Calif.
At his request there will be no memorial services. Cremation has taken place.
Memorial may be made to the American Diabetes Association in Billings.
