FRANK BASS of The Woodlands, Texas went to Heaven on Friday, September 15 after suffering a stroke and related illness. He was born on September 5, 1926 in Atlanta, Georgia and had been proud to call The Woodlands his home since 1985. Despite his age, he was young in body and spirit, and he was respected by his friends and people of all ages and in all walks of life for his dry wit, sincerity, and his willingness to assist them with their problems. After high school, Frank served in the U.S. Navy, and he never lost his love of being on the water. He attended Mercer University where he received his undergraduate and Juris Doctor degrees. Frank worked as a lawyer in the private, public, and corporate environments: After a lengthy career with Florida Power Corporation in St. Petersburg, Florida, he came to Texas to serve as the Director of Legal Services for the Texas Municipal Power Agency. After a short period of time as Manager of Regulatory Affairs for the City of Houston, he then served Montgomery County first as an Assistant County Attorney, and then as the elected County Attorney for two 4-year terms. In 2001, Olen Underwood, Judge of the 2nd Administrative Judicial Region of Texas, appointed Frank Bass Associate Judge to hear cases relative to Children's Protective Services in several Texas counties, ranging from Limestone, Freestone, and Walker counties to the north, Liberty and San Jacinto to the east, and Ft. Bend County to the south. A natural on the judicial bench, Judge Bass was known for his fairness, compassion, even handedness and mild temperament as well as for his intolerance for those who mistreated children. Frank also contributed to his community by serving on the boards of The Woodlands Community Association and the Montgomery County Women's Center. He was a founding board member of the Town Center Improvement District. Frank is survived by his wife of 29 years, Diane; his sons Mark Bass and wife Liz of Atlanta, Georgia, Jeff Bass and wife Donna of Orlando, Florida; daughters Marcia McCoy and husband Carl of Oldsmar, Florida, Michele Tomlinson and husband Greg of Dublin, California; nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 19 at The Woodlands United Methodist Church, The Woodlands, Texas; a memorial service will be at the same church at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 20, Dr. Edmund Robb, III officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Montgomery County CASA, 412 W. Phillips, Conroe, TX or Children's Safe Harbor, 412 W. Lewis, Conroe, TX 77301.
