George J. Bassett 72 of Altamont, MO passed away Wednesday June 29, 2016 at his home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Seventh-Day Adventist Food Pantry.
George Joseph Bassett was born February 22, 1944 the son of Francis and Ruby (Tiller) Bassett in Altamont, MO. After graduating from Gallatin High School, he joined the Navy in 1974 and married Tina Berger; his daughter Christina was born to this union in Oakland, CA. Unfortunately this marriage did not last. He was later introduced to Raylene ?Aune? Bassett in Vallejo, CA, and they married in 1979. This brought two girls Jenni and Amy into his life. He was discharged from the Navy in 1980.
George went home to be with his camping partner in the sky, his beloved Aune. George enjoyed fishing, computers, and his model railroads. He spent many hours toiling over each piece of scenery to make sure they perfectly resembled the Ozarks he remembered of his youth. His children always wondered where the ideas for his scenery came from as they grew up in California. When George and Aune moved back to Missouri inspiration hit him anew and his model railroading was ramped up again.
George was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 23 years Raylene ?Aune? Bassett, June 30, 2002,
George leaves behind three daughters, Christina Bassett-Saccomanno (Anthony) of Land O? Lakes, FL, Amy Murphy, and Jenni Vaughn (Jason) all of Springfield, MO, sisters, Carmen (Ben) Lee of Winston, MO and Deloris Read of San Antonio, TX. He also has four grandchildren, Sean and Athina Saccomanno, and Nicholas and Brendan Vaughn.
