NEW BEDFORD – Gary Raymond Bessette, 45, of New Bedford died Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, in the emergency room at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the former husband of Brenda Lee (Pamplona) Bessette of New Bedford.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Leo Bessette. His mother, Lucy Therese (Rostocki) Bessette, died Wednesday. He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford, a graduate of New Bedford High School and a former communicant of St. Mary’s Church
Mr. Bessette was a New Bedford police officer until he retired due to disability.
He was a member of the New Bedford Police Union. He enjoyed watching baseball and football, and he enjoyed music but most of all he loved being with his children.
Survivors include his former wife; a daughter, Keri Bessette of Fairhaven; two sons, Chad Bessette and Matthew Bessette, both of New Bedford; a brother, Robert A. Bessette, and his wife, Doreen, of South Dartmouth; four sisters, Dale Gillis, and her husband, Bradford, of Nevada, Lee J. Nieseig, and her husband, Richard, of New Bedford, Donna Couto, and her husband, John, of East Providence, R.I., and Debra L. Reed, and her husband, Brian Rock, of New Bedford; his mother-in-law, Alice (Perry) Pamplona of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral Mass will be at 9.a. Tuesday at. St. Mary’s Church.
Burial will be in Sacred heart Cemetery.
Arrangements are by Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd.
