Mary Frances Chargin Bassett, 71, of San Andreas died Monday at her home. Mrs. Bassett was a native of San Jose and lived in San Andreas 23 years. She was a registered nurse and had served as a parish nurse at St. Andrew's Catholic Church and was director of nursing at San Andreas Convalescent Hospital for 13 years. She was the facilitator of the local cancer support group and had been involved with multiple ministries at St. Andrew's Parish. She is survived by her husband, Roy Bassett of San Andreas; children, Laura Boyle and John Bassett, both of Roseville, Geri Bassett of Bishop, Donald Bassett of Lodi, Bobby Bassett of Manteca and Judy Prescott of Garden Valley; brothers, Joseph Chargin III and Chuck Chargin, both of San Jose, and Dr. James Chargin of Grass Valley; sisters, Phencie Paulson of Lincoln and Anne Dempsey of Roseville; and 16 grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. The rosary will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Andrew's Catholic Church, with a Mass to follow. Private inurnment. San Andreas Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
