Ronald L. Bassett
Joliet - Ronald L. Bassett, of Joliet, passed away October 9, 2011, at St. Vincent's Hospital.
He was born in Sumatra, July 12, 1916. During his younger years he grew up near Ingomar and Sumatra, living the life of a cowboy. He served in the Army during World War II, and taught school in Joliet, and Herlong, California. He also coached football and basketball for the Joliet J Hawks.
Ron enjoyed hunting, fishing and cutting wood. He also enjoyed sharing his beautiful gardens with his friends and family. In later years, he enjoyed Monday morning coffee with the ladies who helped him. Ron was a hard worker and believed you weren't having fun unless you were working. In fact, Ron was raking up apples four days previous to his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Daisy.
He is survived by daughters: Pam (Skip) White and sons Jason (Shanna) and Levi; Sandy (Otis) McCloskey and sons Justin and Kyle; Tonia (Ken) Russell and children Ron, Patricia (Keith) Gentry, Rachel (Paige) Green. One brother, Bob, eight great-grandchildren, a special nephew Bob Bassett (who lived with Ron and Daisy for six years), and numerous other nephews and nieces.
Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at the Joliet Wesleyan Church, October 17, 2011, at 11 a.m. Graveside services pending. Memorials may be made to the Joliet Community Center, Joliet Ambulance or a charity of your choice.
As Ron would say, until we meet again "keep your nose clean".
