Stonington - Eileen S. (Bessette) Lalime, 88, of Stonington, beloved wife of 39 years to Albert Lalime, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at home.
Born in Westerly, R.I., she was the daughter of the late Samuel Stewart Jr. and Marie (McCaffery) Stewart, and was a lifelong resident of Stonington. She graduated from Stonington High School and attended New Britain Teachers College. Eileen was a secretary with St. Edmund's Guild for many years, retiring in 1987, and was also the former tax collector in the Stonington Borough.She was active for several years in Little League and Cub Scouts. Eileen enjoyed knitting and reading, and was a parishioner of St. Mary Church, Stonington and a member of the Daughters of Isabella.
In addition to her husband, she leaves four sons, Eugene S. Bessette and his wife, Nancy, of Pawcatuck, John H. Bessette and his wife, Yong, of Groton, Peter E. Bessette and his wife, Carolyn, of Stonington and David T. Bessette and his wife, Susan, of Pawcatuck; sister, Maryann Bessette of Stonington; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Henry M. Bessette; brother, Samuel Stewart III; and a grandson, Bryan M. Bessette.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 22, at St. Mary Church, 95 Main St., Stonington. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Route 1, Stonington. There are no calling hours.
