      Bassett's Mills 1871 (El Paso)

Bassett's Mills was established by Alden Bassett in El Paso County
just to the southeast of Monument. The town namesake and postmaster operated a
sawmill at the site. A post office was first established on June 15, 1869 and
it was discontinued on September 13, 1872. For the fiscal year ending in 1871,
the total compensation was only $26.00.
Alden Bassett had previously built a sawmill at Elizabeth, Elbe
Count and helped found that town as well.

As the Republican candidate for county judge, Mr. Bassett again comes
before the people for the office. Perhaps, no candidate on either ticket is
better known to the entire people of the county than Alden Bassett. His
ability to serve the people in an official capacity is too well known to
demand any comment. He is acknowledged as one of the best office men in the
state of Colorado, and in conducting the affairs of county judge has not
lessened his reputation. Cases coming before him have not been delayed through
negligence on his part. The people will see that such a servant is retained.
