Kate Bassett

Kate Bassett was born September 5, 1922 to the late Albertha Hicks in Freeman, Virginia. She departed this life on August 26, 2016 at Envoy of Lawrenceville, Virginia. Kate was educated in the Brunswick County School System in Virginia and Trade School in Hackensack, NJ. For many years, Kate was employed as an industry worker and health aid. She worked for such companies as the Brunswick Box Mill in Virginia and Home health Aid in Hackensack, NJ. She will always be remembered for her kindness, sense of humor, her love for her family, and young spirit and love for the Lord, She always encouraged others in the Lord, at her best and at her worst. She always had an old time upbeat song to sing for the Lord; her voice triggered joyfully and lingering praise for all to pay honor to the Lord. Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Willie S. Bassett Sr., sisters; Josie Edlow (Arthur) and Reggetta Hicks; son-in-law; Lemard Callis, and children; Willie S. Bassett Jr. and Ronald Bassett. She leaves to cherish her memory, her son; Douglas Hicks of NJ, daughters; Bert Callis of VA, Van Patrick Ricks (Henry) of NJ, and Carol Lucas (Alvin) of VA, Goddaughter Manie Kelly of VA, Grandchildren; Adriene Samuel of MD, Wanda Jewett, Kimberly Ricks, Ronyae Clark, And Tremaine Fowler of NJ, Angel and Anthony Lucas of VA, Malcolm and Jamal Lucas of Massachusetts and Ronald Splatter of PA; 7 great grandchildren; nieces & nephew; Celestine Penn (Millard) of NC, Anderson Edlow (Cheryl), Yvonne Easter (Family) and Linda Bassett (Family) of VA, and a host of great nieces and nephews, other family, friends, and special caregiver; Carolyn Simmons.
