Sherman Bassett
Sherman Bassett, 90, 1901 S. Goyer Road, died at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at 1560 S. Plate St., Hickory Creek, Kokomo. Born May 27, 1910, in Kokomo, he was the son of Ada (Burnett) and William Henry Bassett. On May 5, 1978, in Tipton, he married Viola German Bassett.
He attended Douglas School, Kokomo. He had worked for 17 years at Bridgestone/Firestone, Inc., and was a self-employed gravel and farmer. He enjoyed hunting.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, David and Robert Granger, both of Andreson, Jerry Granger, Noblesville; four daughters, Rhetta Smith, Kokomo; Charlotte Stennis and Susie Ackles, both of Anderson; Patty Bailey, Indianapolis; Veronica German, Alameda, Calif.; 19 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, daughter, brother and sister.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Second Baptist Church, 819 N. Apperson Way. The Rev. Dr. Robert Lee will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the church. Bluitt Funeral Home, 511 E. Monroe St., is in charge of the arrangements.
