He was a US Navy veteran and employed by US Steel Corporation where he was a respected foreman until he retired in 1981. Preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ruby Bassett, parents, a brother and two sisters, he leaves to cherish his memory; four children, Leonard (Marsha) Bassett, Jr. of Florissant, MO, Dennis (Mary) Bassett of Rochester, NY, Leatha Harris of Grand Rapids, MI and Odette (Virgil) Redd of Chesterfield, MI; a brother, Earnest (Lucy) Bassett; a sister Helen Farr; eight grandchildren, Vasco Bassett, Dennis LaShun Bassett, Dawn Reese, Brad Elliott, Ronda Rogers, Brandon Harris, Shana Redd, Christina Redd; six great grandchildren. Visitation 9-11 am Tuesday, October 13 and Funeral to follow 11 am at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, 1741 Fillmore Street. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
