  Notes	Narandera Argus and Riverina Advertiser New South Wales, Australia Tuesday, June 8, 1943 Obituary Mr. Alfred Henry Bassett The death occurred at the Narandera District Hospital on Sunday last of an old and respected resident of Narandera in the person of Mr. Alfred Henry Bassett, at the age of 62 years. Mr. Bassett was a native of Groongal Station, now Warrawidgee, in the Carrathool district, and spent many years of his life there. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bassett, who hailed from Victoria, and took up their residence at Roongal many years ago. Mr. Bassett married Miss Ann P. Fisher, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Fisher, formerly well-known residents of Grong Grong. The marriage was celebrated in Narandera. In 1914 Mr. Bassett acquired a small holding on the south side of the Murrumbidgee river, at Gillenbah, and named it “Frog’s Hollow”. Here he carried on farming operations, and here he and his family resided until the date of his death. Mr. Bassett suffered a long illness. He was possessed of a retiring disposition, but was well and favourably known in this district, where he and his family made many friends. Deceased is surived by his widow and a family of nine sons and three daughters, one son (Alex) having predeceased him. The sons are James, William G. (“Wag”), Thomas A., Alfred H., Robert H., John F., Donald, Loxley, and Kevin, all of whom are residents of Narandera. Robert is at present serving with the military forces. The daughters are Ann (‘Dot’) (Mrs. P. Tobey, Chiltern, Victoria), Hilda C. (Mrs. A. Campbell), Jerilderi), and Rose A. (Mrs. D. O’Callaghan, Warrawidgee Station). He is also survived by one brother (Mr. George Bassett, of Warburn), and five sisters, namely, Mesdames W. Roche and J. Roche (Nyngan), G. Black (Narandera), Fred Hill (Tubmarumba), and W. Dickie (Victoria). The funeral took place yesterday (Monday) afternoon, leaving St. Thomas’ Church for the Church of England portion of the Narandera cemetery. The bearers were Messrs. Iv. Bell, R. Buchanan, John Painting, J. Fisher, Don Bassett, and Tom Bassett. Mrs. Lindley had charge of the funeral arrangements.
