Charles Bass
March 8, 1954 ? October 23, 2025
Funeral services for Mr. Charles Bass of Eastman, Georgia, will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11 AM, at the Welcome Friend Baptist Church, 75 Welcome Friend Church Road in Eastman. Interment will follow in the New Providence Baptist Church Cemetery on Fountain Road in Cadwell.
Charles Bass was born on Monday, March 8, 1954, to Ira Lee Bass and the late A.D. Bass in Plainfield, Dodge County, Georgia. Charles was the second of three children. After the death of his father, which occurred early in his life, Charles took on the roles of protector and man of the house. At an early age, he joined Saint Mark Baptist Church, but later moved his membership to Welcome Friend.
Growing up, Charles had a knack for fixing electronics, such as tearing apart radios and televisions and putting them back together, just to see if he could do it correctly, or fixing the family?s record player, back when record players were a thing! He would also help older men in the community fix their trucks and cars; repairing just came naturally to him.
Charles graduated from Dodge County High School in 1972. He worked many jobs throughout his life, excelling at them all and finding favor with many of his employers. His last job, as a Correctional Officer at the Reidsville (Georgia) State Prison, was the most challenging and also where his career ended, due to extended illness. Additionally, Charles was a member of the United States Army Reserve, also, until his health failed.
On the morning of Thursday, October 23, 2025, while at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia, the angels graciously escorted him home.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a loving and dedicated mother, Ira Lee Bass; two sons, Tremayne (Latonia) Hilburn of Eastman, and Terrance Shields (Christy) of Eastman, grandchildren: Chelsea (Thomas) Wiggum, J. T. Shields, Tyler Shields, Gabrielle Hilburn, Taylor Shields, and Gavin Hilburn, all of Eastman; and one great-grandson, Ky?cen Hilburn., two sisters: Marion (Oather) Stanley of Atlanta,. and Barbara Bass of Eastman, nieces: Ela?n S. Bass of Eastman, Camari L. Stanley, Zai? Yuri Johnson, Nikayla Sirmons, Amiah Sirmons, all of Atlanta, and three nephews: Shawn B. Stanley, and Cory J. (Naketta) Stanley, and Loronza Stanley, all of Atlanta, and cousins, and other relatives and friends.
