OBITUARY
William Franklin Bass, son of Mary Elizabeth and David Bass, was born in Dunklin County, Missouri, and departed this life April 2, 1938, being 74 years, 3 months, and 7 days. When a small boy he came with his parents to Barton County, Missouri, where he grew to manhood. On March 23, 1881, he was married to Nancy Elizabeth Brown at Newport, Missouri, who preceded him in death. To this union were born eight children, two dying in infancy. Surviving children are four daughters and two sons, Mrs. Mary Clark, Mrs. Lessie Durham, Mrs. Minnie Sherron, all of Liberal; Mrs. Millie McColm, of Halfway; Clyde Bass of Humansville, and Lee Bass with whom he made his home. Other survivors are ten grandchildren, one great grandson and a host of relatives and friends. He was a member of the Baptist church having professed this faith in early manhood - living a devoted Christian life to the end. He went to Humansville six years ago where he made many more friends as he was always kind to all and his first thought was to do something for his fellow man. His Christian influence will live in the hearts of those left behind. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, April 3, by Reverend Austin Hook at Pleasant Hill. Interment was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery under direction of Hutcheson-Blue.
"Moved to Humansville, Missouri six years prior to his death. Was member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church which is 4 miles east of Bolivar on Highway 32 on north side of road. Was buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetary at the direction of Hutcheson-Blue Funeral Home. He left home at age 14 when his stepfather struck him and never went back. He pulled a dray wagon."
