Girl, 6, Hurt in Car Mishap
Darlene Bessette, six-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Bessette of 125 Pleasant St., suffered injuries to the head and body, fractures of both legs, laceration of her ear and multiple abrasions about the body at 12:25 p.m. on Wednesday when she was struck by a car on Pleasant St.
According to police, the driver of the car was Francis H. Leamy, Jr., 23, of Hatfield St., Haydenville. He was driving a car owned by Warriner Auto Parts of Main St., Williamsburg, in an easterly direction on Pleasant St. when he saw a boy on the opposite side of the street. He told police that the girl then ran from between two parked cars, in front of his car. His car struck the child, knocking her to the pavement. She was transported to Cooley Dickinson Hospital in the municipal ambulance where her injuries were diagnosed.
Patrolmen Joseph Cykowski and Raymond LaCroix investigated the accident and members of the Registry of Auto Vehicles have been asked to assist in the investigation which is still underway.
