  Notes	Huron Reglector, Norwalk, Ohio, September 1, 1846 Died In this village, on Thursday, the 28th inst. Mr. Justin Bassett, aged 32 years. Mr. Bassett was an exceedingly worthy man, and highly esteemed citizen. He has left a disconsolate widow and one child - and his sudden and unexpected departure has cast a gloom over our village, and left a void in society, which can not be easily filled. Iola Register, Allen County, Kansas, June 18, 1910 David L. Bassett D.L. Bassett was born in Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio, December 13th, 1840. He died at his home, Iola, Kansas, June 17th, 1910, at 9 o'clock, A.M. aged sixty-nine years, six months and four days. When Mr. Bassett was a child of six years his father died. His mother then moved to New London, Ohio where she lived until her son was thirteen years old, moving thence to Norwalk, Ohio, where Mr. Bassett grew to manhood. On October 10th, 1861, Mr. Bassett was married to Miss Mary E. Warner, of Norwalk, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Bassett lived in Norwalk for sixteen years. In 1877, on account of Mrs. Bassett's poor health, they came to Kansas and settled on a farm near Iola. About eleven years ago they left the farm and came to Iola, where they have since made their home. To Mr. and Mrs. Bassett were born four children of whom three are now living. The eldest, a daughter of seventeen years, died in Iola some years ago. Mr. Bassett was an old soldier. He enlisted in Company D, Eighth Ohio at the beginning of the Civil War, and served until its end. During the last several years of his life Mr. Bassett had suffered much but had borne his troubles with great fortitude and forbearance. D.L. Bassett was a good husband, a kind father, and honorable, up right citizen, esteemed and respected by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his departure from this life his wife and two daughters, Mrs. Lora Norton, of Chicago, Illinois, and Mrs. Hattie Dennison, of Iola, Kansas, an invalid son, and six grandchildren, besides other relatives and friends.
