Leonard E. ?Len? Bassett
Bay City, Michigan
Len, age 68, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Charter Assisted Living. He was born on May 31, 1957, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Leonard and Germaine (Soitz) Bassett. Len was a graduate of Bay City Central High School, Class of 1975. He continued his education at Delta College, where he earned his associate's degree, and later proudly attended Wayne State University, where he obtained his bachelor's degree in mortuary science.
Following his education, Len became a licensed funeral director in the State of Michigan, a profession he took great pride in for several years. He served families with compassion and dedication while working in Farwell, Michigan; Clare, Michigan; and with W.L. Case & Company Funeral Homes in Saginaw, Michigan. Later in life, Len was employed at J.C. Penney in Midland until his retirement.
Outside of his professional life, Len enjoyed watching all sports on television, especially football, and spending time walking outdoors.
He was a faithful parishioner of All Saints Parish (St. James Church) in Bay City.
Len is survived by his beloved cousin, Lisa Dryzga, and many other cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Karen Bassett, who passed away in 2022; his grandparents, Joseph and Marie (Nowak) Soitz, and Edward and Maude Bassett; and his aunts and uncles: Fidelis (Richard) Roberts, Dorothy (James) Carney, Hazel (John) Sologar, Wanda (Kenneth) Ayotte, Floyd (Sadie) Bassett, Ernest (Sue) Bassett, Loretta (Louis) Kozak, Lucille (Floyd) Dryzga, Beatrice (Kenneth) McFarland, and Jeanette (Leonard) Prell.
Len will be remembered for his dedication to his profession, his love of sports, and the quiet, gentle manner in which he lived his life.
Len's cousin Lisa would like to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at Charter Assisted Living and Americans Hospice, especially Nancy, for their kind and compassionate care they gave Len during his time spent with them.
The Funeral Mass for Len will be celebrated Friday, January 2, 2026, at 11:00 AM at All Saints Parish (St. James Church) 710 Columbus Ave., Bay City, MI 48708. Fr. Jose Maria Cabrera will celebrate Mass, and entombment will follow in St. Patrick Mausoleum. Family and friends will gather at church on Friday, January 2nd from 10:00 AM until the time of Mass. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Charter Assisted Living.
