Ira Bassett, one of the old residents of this section, died at his
home on the west side at seven o'clock Tuesday morning, after an illness
extending over several months.
Mr. Bassett, who was a native of Wisconsin, had lived in this city and
vicinity during the past forty years, having been born in Adams county fifty-
two years ago. For many years he held the position of stationary engineer at
different places in this locality, and later served the county as under-
sheriff, and also held the position of alderman and supervisor in this city.
The funeral will be held from the home on Friday afternoon under the
direction of the Modern Woodmen and Equitable and Fraternal Union Lodges, of
which orders he was a member. Rev. Staff will preach the funeral sermon.
