Elzie Lewis Bass
Mr. Elzie Lewis Bass, Jr., age 82, of Panama City, Fla., passed while surrounded by his loving wife and family on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2016, in Panama City, Fla. Elzie was born on May 27, 1933, in Williston, Fla., to Lewis Elzie Sr. and Freida Mae (Bell) Bass. Elzie was employed as a bread salesman for 42 years with Flowers Baking Company. He proudly served over four years during the Korean Conflict in the United States Army with the 1st Army Rangers Division. During his time in service, Mr. Bass was the recipient of a Purple Heart for the injuries he received during combat. Mr. Bass had lived in Panama City, Fla., for most of his life. He was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Panama City, Fla. Elzie was a member of the Bay County Disabled American Veterans Association Chapter 17 in Panama City, Fla. He is preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Davis.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Jill Bass, of Panama City, Fla.; a son, George Bass and wife Denise, of Lynn Haven, Fla.; two daughters, Pamela Pippin and husband Roger, of Youngstown, Fla., and Tammy Kelly and husband Chuck, of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters: Gail Daniels and husband Homer, of Panama City, Fla., and Glenda Sue Campbell of Texas; six grandchildren: Heather Zabriskie, Julia Bond, Aaron Davis, Jessica Rogers, Justin Hoffmann and George Bass II; and three great-grandchildren: Sabrina Bond, Kaden Rogers and Karder Rogers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at 11 a.m. (CST) at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Panama City, Fla., with the Rev. Charles Key officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. (CST) until service time at 11 a.m. (CST) at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Panama City, Fla. In lieu of flowers, contributions of love can be made to Covenant Hospice (615 N. Bonita Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401) or Cedar Grove Baptist Church Building Fund (2608 E 15th St., Panama City, FL 32405). All arrangements are under the direction of Marlon Peavy at Peavy Funeral Home in Blountstown, Fla.
