Fern Davis Rites Today
Former Monroe County Teacher
A last rite for Mrs. Fern B. Davis, 68, a former teacher in Monroe County schools, will be held at 11 a.m. today in Hedges Memorial Chapel, 271 University Ave.
Mrs. Davis, who retired in 1955 after a 35-year teaching career, died in Tampa, Fla., Friday (May 6, 1960).
She was born in Webster. After attending the old Brockport Normal School, she did graduate work at Columbia University and Oswego State Teachers College.
Mrs. Davis taught at School 24 two years, then at Brighton High School nearly 12 years. She studied at the old Rochester Shop School to prepare for work with children needing special attention. For the eight years before her retirement, she taught at the Edward W. Bower School in Lindenhurst, N.Y., for mentally retarded children.
She spent winters in Florida with a son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Bumpus, and resided at the Manger Hotel other parts of the year.
Besides her daughter, Mrs. Davis leaves a son, Alfred LeBlanc of Rochester, and five grandchildren. Burial will be in Webster Rural Cemetery.
