Nancy Bass McBride
Nancy McBride was born to Zoe and Sam Bass on October 13, 1928 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She graduated from Texas State College for Women (now Texas Woman?s University). Following graduation, Nancy began her career in Dallas where she started work as an elementary teacher. She subsequently moved to Odessa, Texas to work for an oil company. This is also where she would meet her future husband, William (Bill) McBride. They were married in Longview, Texas in February of 1955.
Nancy and Bill built two trucking and heavy hauling businesses from the ground up, starting with only a pickup truck and a lot of hard work. She served as his devoted wife, partner, and confidant for 52 years. As both the business and the family grew, Nancy focused her attention on devoting herself to her family and four children: Matthew, Mark, Kimberly, and Patrick. As her sons married, the family grew again with the addition of three daughters in law ? Lucy, Angela, and Holly. Her seven grandchildren are Daniel, Ian, Rachael, Sean Mark, Joshua, Kate, and Luke. Throughout her life, her family was the focus of her constant devotion and prayers. She was also a follower of Christ and longtime member of Grace Bible Church in Dallas, Texas. Her marked up Bible and lengthy prayer list spoke volumes about her deep and abiding faith.
Nancy also focused her love and attention on many children in the Dallas area that struggled with learning differences. She went back to school to take courses and became a Certified Academic Language Therapist (CALT). She served as a language therapist and graduate instructor at SMU in Dallas in language therapy for over 30 years. Many of her students went on to enjoy very successful careers.
Nancy?s life was full of love, joy, dedication to family, and a strong faith in her savior Jesus Christ. Nancy McBride joined her husband Bill and her son Mark in Heaven on January 25, 2017 at the age of 88. She is survived by her sister Barbara, her children and grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and extended family for whom she cared deeply. Her services will be held on Friday, February 3, 2017. There will be a graveside service at 11:00 AM at DFW National Cemetery, and this will be followed by a celebration of life at Grace Bible Church in Dallas. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Grace Bible Church, 11306 Inwood Road, Dallas, TX 75229.
