      Fred John Bessette

      FRED JOHN BESSETTE - ESSEX CENTER - Fred John Bessette, 64, left to be with our Savior, March 19, 2000, following a long illness. He was born in Burlington, on Oct. 6, 1935, the son of the late George and Celesta Bessette. He served in the Vermont Army National Guard from 1951 until 1970, where he earned numerous citations. He worked for South Burlington Fire Department for 23 years (Captain), Essex Junction Fire Department (volunteer for ten years), Essex Fire Department (volunteer for ten years, Assistant Chief) Fred joined the Knights of Columbus in 1961, and was a 3rd and 4th Degree member. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. Fred is survived by his wife, Beverly and their children and grandchildren, Michael and Tracie Bessette and their son David of Essex Center; Brenda and Ray Astillero and their children Martina and Ramon of Jericho; Fred Jr. and Lucie Bessette and their children Justin, Hillary and Victoria of Westford; Sylvia and Bob Toscanno of Toms River, N.J., Joanne and Mac Peters and their daughter Danielle of Burlington, Joseph and Tricia Bessette and their children Megan and Macie Jo of South Hero; and great-granddaughter, Tiana Valyou of Jericho. He was predeceased by an infant son, Jeffery Bessette. The family would like to express special thanks to: Dr. Peter Gunther, Dr. Paul Unger and staff, Dr. Glenn Boulder, Dr. Peter Swift, Hospice of the Champlain Valley Nurses: Julia Hardiff, Jean Lumbra and Linda McMeekin A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the St. Pius The Tenth Catholic Church in Essex Center. Interment will be later in the spring in the Fort Ethan Allen Cemetery in Colchester. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of the Champlain Valley, 1110 Prim Road, Colchester, Vt. 05446. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the LaVigne Funeral Home, 132 Main Street, Winooski, Vt.
