Margaret J. Fredette
Margaret Joyce Fredette, 81, died Dec. 22, 2014, at her home.
She was born in Burlington, March 4, 1933, daughter of Kenneth and Margaret (Danyow) Bessette Sr.
Joyce was a graduate of Burlington High School.
Joyce led a life of entrepreneurship and leadership. Joyce was one of the early adopters of selling American Home Toy Parties in the 1960s, winning several New England sales awards. She later turned her sights to real estate; selling Florida properties for Deltona Corp. earning the national Salesman of the Year award in 1971 while being the first and only female salesperson in the country at that time.
Working for herself, Joyce developed rental properties in Rutland on Main and Washington streets, as well as the Carriage Runn Development in Rutland Town. Joyce became the first woman President of the Southern Vermont Home Builders Association. In addition, Joyce owned and operated a fabric, wall paper and decorating store for several years.
Joyce was also an accomplished artist, specializing in early American painting techniques. Her work was accepted into the Historical Society of Early American Decorators and she served on the board of the Fletcher Farm School for the Arts and Crafts in Ludlow, VT.
She was a resident of Rutland and Bayonet Point, FL.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula Gregory of Rutland; 2 sons David Fredette of Berwick, ME, and Todd Fredette of Glen Mills, PA; a brother, Kenneth Bessette Jr. of Williston; 6 grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her former husband, Paul Fredette, and a sister, Joan Johnson.
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday Dec. 27, 2014, in the Clifford Funeral Home.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 noon.
Burial will be held at a later date in East Cemetery in Williston.
